due to the horrible winter we were having in Plymouth MA., we decided to visit Cape Cod for a weekend. I selected the Lamb and Lion Inn located in Barnstable as it was Mid Cape. They are one of the few hotels and Inns in Massachusetts that still have working fireplaces so I choose the Lion's Den with a working fireplace. Made reservation on line and were constantly updated by the owners Tom and Ali as the check in date approached. Upon arrival we were met by Eileen, one of the staff and escorted to our room. we were shown the spa/yoga room for our massages scheduled for the next day, the breakfast area, hot tub, and library/movie room with a uniques 4 sided fireplace(has to be seen to be believed) Our room was downstairs at the back of the house, and came comlete with a small kitchen, king size bed, sitting area with sofa, and, of course a huge brick fireplace with wood and firestarter all set up. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed the experience from begining to end. Continental breakfast each day included homemade breads and muffins from one of the staff of Jill or Eileen. The Inn also has an outdoor pool and outdoor shower for the summer months. Massages were fantastic as well. The current owners have come from New York City and have spent a lifetime in the hospitality industry owning and running a number of small hotels and inns. It shows in every aspect of the Lamb and Lion. Plenty of excellent restaurants are 10-15 minutes away. The Lamb and Lion is perfectly situated for exploring the Upper and Mid Cape as it is centrally located. We will be back.

Room Tip: working fireplaces are located in the Lions Den and the Innkeepers Pride which is the largest room...

This is a long overdue review for a place I still think about with great longing. My husband and I stayed here August of 2012 for 4 nights in Sweet 6. Loved absolutely everything about this wonderful place - and I can be kind of picky now that I'm (slightly) out of my backpacker-circuit years.

Tom and Ali really are the excellent hosts other reviewers rave about. Friendly but not in your face, will give excellent recommendations and advice if you want it but are not pushy... the whole vibe is very relaxed and welcoming. Loved the pool, loved the room, loved the home-made yogurt at breakfast. The location is very convenient - everything you could want to do is just a short drive away, although heed Tom's words of caution about which routes to avoid in summer. We had fun with the driving tour Tom and Ali have written up, and we also had a couple of really good day-long bike rides based on Tom's recommendations. This truly is a lovely place to stay. I highly recommend it, and wish I could live there.

Ouch, the backpacker circuit years!
I never went through that, but my innkeeper partner Ali did when she was a kid--all through Europe. We were just talking about youth hostiles and the like--no thanks! That kind of traveling was never my thing. Give me great service, a really clean room, restaurant recommendations, some friendly, local advise and a bit of much needed privacy and I'm a happy traveler. I guess that's why people who come to the Lamb and Lion Inn are also happy travelers!
Thanks for posting your kind words! You stayed in August and wrote it the following February? Sounds like someone is reminiscing about the beach during a blizzard! Hope to see you again!

Yes, 45 years I planned this weekend and contacted the Lamb and Lion. When I spoke with Tom he originaly said that he and Ali would be out of town, so there would not be any of her wonderful cooking. I made the choice to book anyway as he said the place would be in good hands, Jill. Jill was great made us feel at home. We were in lair 9 it was nicely appointed, but the best part was the shower. We had as much fun as when on our honeymoon, and then president Nixon came into the theater we were in. Friday nite, the only other couple in the place, newlyweds, were at the other end of the building, he lit a fire in the fireplace. Forgot to open the flue! Excitement ensued with firemen and smoke everywhere. We had a good laugh and were able to add this our memories of life together. We plan to return to try Alis cooking.

Room Tip: Lair 9 is near the door to the accomodations, if you are a light sleeper, you may want to choose ano...

Sorry we missed such an adventure. Things are always quiet here until we leave and Jill takes over, the poor thing. Sounds like you had as much of a sense of humor as Jill did! She takes everything in stride. Thanks for taking the time to write--glad you had such a wonderful time. Hope to see you for #50!

How lucky my husband and I were to find the Lamb and Lion Inn in Barnstable, MA via Living Social!! The innkeepers, Tom and Ali, were lovely hosts who, along with their four sweet little dogs, precious G Willie in particular, made us quickly feel right at home upon our arrival. What a happy start to each day from Willie as he greeted us every morning at our sliding door! Ali's delectable breakfast choices were culinary delights, and the hot coffee was excellent! Tom's dining and sites-to-see recommendations were fun and quite interesting; one would need to spend much more time than three days to visit everything on his extensive list!! Although I have made many previous trips to the area to visit my aunt in Brewster (and currently in Chatham), Tom not only directed us to many familiar places; i.e., Scituate Harbor, Brewster Store, to name a couple, but also to many new (to me) sites which we thoroughly enjoyed! Our evenings were spent sitting by the pool with the fire pit blazing, a glass of wine in hand, and enjoying the company of the other guests. Jack and I are eagerly anticipating our next visit to the Lamb and Lion Inn, and spending more time with Tom, Ali, G Willie and the rest of the wonderful staff!

Room Tip: Since we were the only guests at the Inn on Monday night, Tom gave us our choice of rooms. The deci...

The pool and the fire pit...our favorite Lamb and Lion feature! We are glad you were able to take advantage of the LivingSocial deal. We don't do a ton of discounting here as we find you definately get the "bang" for the buck, but in very slow times we DO offer some wonderful discounts, which are only found on our Facebook page. Keep your eyes out for the next one--and hope to see you fireside!

The Lamb and Lion is a lovely bed and breakfast in Barnstable and everything that has been written about the accommodations and the friendly, helpful hosts is right on the money. But as seasoned guests at bed and breakfasts, I was disappointed with the breakfast offered with the rooms. Yes, the cake, granola and bread were homemade and delicious, but that was the extent of the free breakfast...if you want something more substantial, say, eggs then there's a $5 surcharge per order. So if you're looking for a bed and breakfast with a hot meal and not a continental breakfast you need to look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Every room is different. All are lovely. Some have woodburning fireplaces, others gas. So if that...

Thank you for the kind words. YES, we agree with you!! If you weigh breakfast as the most important part of your stay and require the large, 3 course, formal sit down hot breakfast affair, we recommend you keep shopping! We too are seasoned bed & breakfast professionals. We've owned and operated a 4-Diamond Relais & Chateaux property, run several other inns & restaurants for others and have advised up & coming newbies to the industry. B&Bs run the gambit--the biggest reason guests frequent such properties. You get personal experiences that are (hopefully) unique & fresh.
The Lamb and Lion inn caters to guests who aren't necessarily thinking about spending the morning sipping coffee and sitting around a large table for long periods of time. That option IS there, but our guests don't want to be told what time they have to be at the breakfast table (a prerequisite to most B&Bs), want to have their breakfast at their leisure, would like the OPTION of socializing--or not--and we find our guests to be a little on the "adventurous" side. They typically get up, have a nice, relaxed, healthy, homemade breakfast and hit the road with our free self-guided driving tours, swing by the office for whale watch tickets, or grab a few complimentary beach chairs & umbrellas for the beach.
As for the add-on breakfast, we have had mostly rave reviews on this new concept. If we offered, say, our magnificent eggs Benedict with homemade Hollandaise to everyone, the only way to pull that off for a property of B&B size would be to offer it at a specific time--again, we don't like curfews! So, if guests desire something special on top of the large, complimentary homemade spread we offer, we ask that they order something off the ala carte menu at bedtime--let us know what time they'd like it--if they'd like it in the common area, delivered "breakfast in bed", poolside, wherever they can have WHAT they want, and WHEN and WHERE they want. We do charge $5 to cover our costs--and you will never have a better eggs beni anywhere in the world.
We can see where a seasoned B&B person might be thrown for a loop. This is a new concept to fit in with our "when, where & what you want" breakfast, and we find it a perfect fit!

I stayed at the Lamb and the Lion for three nights, with two friends. We chose this inn for two reasons: pets are allowed and they had an apartment-sized suite available. The Barn-Stable suite gets an A ++ from me for character and comfort. It was a privilege to stay in an antique building from 1740. The decorations and details are just beautiful and it took us three days to appreciate all that is on display throughout the suite (think Country Living Magazine). There is a gas fireplace, and a large couch with two comfy chairs, a dining room table, full kitchen, private deck and 1.5 bathrooms, and I can't forget to mention the knight that guards the door! The three loft bedrooms are up steep and narrow stairs and are all interconnected and open to the first floor. Just a word of caution to guests who are not able to climb such stairs, but there are gates at the top of both sets of stairs for additional safety. The beds were very comfortable. Attention to detail and cleanliness are very evident. What really makes this place so special are the special people who own and manage the property. Tom was wonderful and provided information about local dining options. Jill, who checked us in, gave us a tour of our suite and was very personable and charming. We enjoyed chatting with her one evening when she came to add wood to the outdoor fireplace by the pool. Did I mention the very private pool and hot tub enclosed by the inn's courtyard? It was great fun to meet other guests and their dogs, as well as Tom and Ali's foursome. Only small dogs are allowed and there is a spacious back yard and many nearby places for longer walks with your dog. There were several great dining options about a mile or two away in Barnstable village, a very short drive from the inn. Tom has composed a very comprehensive guide for guests, covering just about everything you might need during your stay. I can't review the inn breakfast since breakfast is not included in the rental of this suite. But with a full kitchen, that does not pose a problem. Whatt a lovely stay! I know this will be one of my best-ever travel memories!

Oh, the BARN! WE love our Barn reviews. This is probably the most unique place to stay on Cape Cod--certainly it is on historic Route 6A. What a wonderful review--and to take that much time to write such a comprehensive overview is nothing but flattering. We love our 1740 Barn, the knight who makes sure each guest has a good knight's sleep (sorry...) and Jill, the newest member to team Lamb and Lion--who might just be worth the trip alone. What an amazing fall we're having. The weekends are filling up, the festivals are in full swing, and if you've never been to this part of New England in Autumn you are truly missing something spectacular--enjoying a step back in time via our "1740 time machine Barn" is icing on the cake!

My husband and I were given a weekend get away for our 30th! Anniversary by our children and family to the Lamb & Lion Inn. Shared by my husbands sister and her husband. Where Tom, Ali and wonderful staff made us feel right at home. Come to find out they had lived, and operated the Old Drovers Inn, in our home town (which has a history all its own.) We were greeted by (2) of their (4) little dogs, and shown the layout of the very quant Inn. From the use of the pool & hot tub, too the sunroom where Ali makes homemade breakfast daily. Each of the rooms different from the next and decorated with its own charm. Tom gave us a handful of options to fill our weekend from whale watching, to driving & touring the beauty of 6A, with its many beaches and restaurants! We look forward to returning and enjoying that glass of wine in the hot tub again! & the hospitality of Tom & Ali
