The Super 8 in Brockton, Mass, is a pleasant stay, especially if you expected it to be a dump. It is far from that...as we were very pleasantly surprised at the good quality of this Super 8. We have seen others and they were short of being total dumps...not this one.

The lobby is well lit during the day, as a result of the skylight/atrium area, where the breakfast is served. The hotel itself used to be a commercial office property, but was gutted and renovated in 2004 (?) to become a hotel, so the layout is very open and spacious looking.

The rooms are clean, beds have no bugs, amenities in the rooms are very adequate. We stayed in the King Suites on the ground level, next to the lobby (eg units 102, 107).

The breakfast is not spectacular, but the automated coffee maker/dispenser brewed some very good java...and they supply cream which our family loves in our coffee.

Location is a great for walking next door to shop at the plaza/mall, which includes a Walmart, but the neighbourhood itself is not exactly the best around, but definitely not unsafe. It's in the middle of an older commercial area, so you have to expect that it doesn't have a great local scenic area.

On the Saturday nite that we arrived (mid August 2008), it was past midnight, but we were checked in swiftly...and there was a night-guard on duty throughout the night, or so I assume (I went out around 2am to get some ice and saw the guard in the lobby).

The management appears to be a family, perhaps two brothers and perhaps their spouses, as we saw three different managers during our 2 day stay. All were very courteous, friendly and willing to offer information to our questions about the area.

The location is about 20 minutes south of Boston (times vary according to the lousy traffic jams). It is also about an hour away from the start of the Cape Cod area.

As a business traveller's stopover, it is marginally acceptable. For pleasure, and for those on a moderate budget, it is excellent value and a welcome experience.

Upon check in they told me they did not have a room for me, even though I had made reservations weeks in advance, and I had a confirmation number.. After calling the Super 8 1-800#, and speaking to a customer representative, somehow they "found" a room for me. I would have been better off leaving. The hotel is dirty, loud, and no one who works there speaks english very well.
