We along with our dear friends and traveling buddies were looking for a nice quiet place on the beach close to home to vacation this year. Only a 2 hour drive, what a little gem The Hawthorne turned out to be. We will DEFINITELY be back!! The motel is clean, very comfortable, with an awesome view overlooking the ocean. The beach at the hotel is lovely. Clean and great for swimming. The motel provides beach chairs, umbrellas and beach towels. For those folks without an ocean view from their room there is a small patio in the rear that is great to watch the sun rise or just relax. You can watch the fishing fleet go out in the morning and return in the afternoon. Watch them unload at the pier a short walk down the beach. You can watch the seals congregate on the sandbars a short distance from shore. Hear them moo / talk to each other. At Kellee's suggestion (the manager) we went to Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge at Morris Island. Had a wonderful day walking the trails in the refuge. One brings you out to the shore and then up through the dunes. A lot of seaside fun between the beach at the Hawthorne and the refuge-- birds, fish, starfish, crabs, plants, trees, lighthouse, and a fun treat...osprey! Town center is a short 10 min walk (yay..didn't have to get in the car and drive). Restaurants we ate at: Pates, Chatham Sguire, Sandi's, Larry's PX, Chatham Cookware Cafe - all great value, many options to choose from and yummy. The staff at the motel were friendly and engaging, not intrusive. Kellee and Mike host a fun Meet & Greet on Tuesday nights at the beach..s'mores and get acquainted with other guests and staff. All in all I'd give it a 10 out of 10.

Room Tip: Rooms on the beach side have great view of ocean.

My husband and I returned from a lovely week at The Hawthorne! I'm so sad that we had to leave. The room was efficient and kept very clean (thank you Amanda!). The Hawthorne has by far and away the best beach of any Inn/Hotel in Chatham. Kellee and Mike do an outstanding job managing, and it's just the best place to stay. I can't wait until our next visit.

Never been happier. The rooms were clean and well-tended. The property was clean and well-tended. Kellee and Mike were warm, welcoming, and gracious managers, respectful and kind - a picture of perfect hositality - very happy, easy going and pleasent. They were always available to answer any of our questions and never intrusive into our space and time. The bonus: the view is gorgeous! Definately stay there again.

Having had a wonderful time at the Hawthorne a few years ago, we decided to return this summer for a 3 night stay. Sadly, the warmth and welcoming atmosphere was noticeably absent this time around. When I inquired as to the owner (Gil) I was told that he and his wife had retired and that the hotel was under new management (Kelee and Mike). There was a palpable disintererest from the moment of our arrival until the time we checked out. When I walked in to check in with my 2 very well-behaved children, ages 7 and 9, we were barely acknowledged and they were not even greeted. Kelee was cold and virtually silent; I was asked to pay our balance and were told how to get to our room and where to park. That was the extent of any intereaction or greeting. The room was cleaned in a half-hearted way (one day only one of the two beds were made) and the general vibe was poor. I met another mother on the beach, and she basically had the same to say about the lack of warmth and welcome. On the day of our departure, two police cars pulled up to the motel and appeared to be seeking someone, perhaps a guest? By that time we were checking out and did not ask any questions! I will say that despite the change in the Hawthorne, we had a lovely time in Chatham, going to the beach, sightseeing, shopping, etc. To summarize, unless we met an entirely different Kelee than the other reviewers (and we did not meet Mike at all), I cannot understand how they can be describing the same individual! We are returning to Chatham this September and have already made reservations elsewhere. Very disapppointed in the Hawthorne.

We visited in July 2014. The location is brilliant right on the beach and only a few minutes walk to the centre of Chatham - with all it's lovely restaurants and tempting shops. Our immaculate room was very spacious for the 3 of us. Kellee was only too happy to help us with any queries re local trips and facilities. Easy parking

Room Tip: Worth paying for a sea view

This well cared for establishment is within walking distance of Chatham's main street. The proprietors Kellee and Mike are warm and friendly and anxious to please. Room 108 has beautiful, panoramic views of the shore. The room had a king size bed, very comfortable! The kitchenette provided us with a microwave, two burner electric stove and refrigerator, a Keurig coffee maker and tea kettle, plus everything you would need to eat in if you like. There is a grill available for use, a picnic table and a lovely covered brick patio with table and chairs just steps away. Kellee and Mike answered our many questions and offered great advice on things to do in the area. A friendly relaxing environment right on the bay. Highly recommended!

I had only been to Chatham in late October for business, staying at the Chatham Bars Inn. When we decided to go up in June this year, we wanted something in the same area but not as pricey. The Hawthorne was great. Perfect location, lovely beach, warm and accommodating managers. Walking distance to town. Rooms were very nice...clean and ours had a beautiful view of the harbor. The only opportunities for improvement would be: sheets were kind of scratchy, and it also would have been nice to have coffee/tea (a Keurig maybe?) in the lobby throughout the day. Otherwise perfect and we love Chatham!
