Owner description: Built in 1797, the Chatham Windmill (Godfrey Windmill) is one of the few historic wind-powered grist mills that remain on Cape Cod. It is open for guided tours during the summer months. Twice each year the mill is set in operation and, weather conditions permitting, the mill grinds corn just as it did in the 18th and 19th centuries. Specific details about tour dates and times are listed on our website.

“Wonderful piece of history”

It's very small but very informative. The two gentlemen were extremely informative and we all learned so much. I would definitely take some time out of shopping and go check it out.

“A step back in time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014

The oldest working commercial venture in Chatham. The Godfrey mill so named for it's original builder, colonel Benjamin Godfrey, it is open for the public Mon Wed and Friday July through August. It is a great place for families as it is in a park where you can picnic.

“Sweet little park”

Its was cool to see a windmill, we don't have them where i'm from. It's in great condition, too. Take off your shoes and run around in the grass during the summer.

“Even just the outside is worth a quick visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2014

Although the windmill was not open for a tour the day we were there, it was a lovely walk from town among interesting homes. This was our first opportunity to see a windmill up close, so we were fascinated with the use of the wheel to position the wind blades to catch the wind direction. The labyrinth at the foot of the hill allowed the entire family to get into some fun exercise for a few minutes. Plan the visit on a touring day to get the most, but don't skip just because it is closed..
