“The Dogs !”

Some previous reviewers must live in a very strange world - and maybe that is a good thing. The Wayside at Chatham was a haven in a storm. Previous hotels/ motels on our 3 week trip had been a mixed bunch, some being down right dirty and others OK ( and we had not chosen on price). We had 4 faultless nights at Wayside at $120 a night with staff charming, attentive, bright and cheery. OK - so there was'nt a silly small fridge with expensive booze in the room but there was a great big comfortable bed, charming furniture, an external veranda, clean modern bathroom and a very relaxing atmosphere. The hotel has been refurbished well, is in the centre of town, has good car parking, free computer etc etc . Food both at AM and PM was great, friendly and smiley staff and exceptional value. If you must go to the most delightful Cape Cod village at the height of the season then you must expect both lots of people and street cleaners in the morning ( my club in Piccadilly/St James in London is likewise afflicted). Otherwize you would not have anything to complain about - and as regards the bar/pub across the road 'Squires' it is open until 23.59 each day, has a great client base who appreciate life, good beers and Brits. Get a life - go to Chatham and enjoy the Wayside

This is the worst hotel experience I have ever had. The room was over $200/night and was worse than a one star room at a cheap motel. The staff was unbelievably discourteous. Chatham has so many inns and well-run lodging in this price range and close to the village and main street - this place is a dump and should be ashamed of what they charge and how they mistreat their guests and paying customers.

As a business traveler who also travels quite a bit on personal time, this is by far the worst value I have encountered. I've seen much better accomodations and value in developing countries. The Wayside is a disgrace to Chatham, an otherwise very nice town.

This is a delightful Inn in a lovely small town. We were on a Tauck Coach tour so the hotels had already been booked for us. We had a delightful room in a very quiet position overlooking the park which was next door to the hotel. We would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom because there is no room service. Excellent staff and good food in the restaurant although the service was very slow.

Do walk to the lighthouse and also to the Fish Pier. At the pier we saw lots of harbour seals.

We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here for 2 nights last week.
We were greeted by a wonderful woman named Kathleen at the front desk. She was very kind and welcoming.
Before even getting a key to the room she had given us a map of the town, places to dine, etc...
Our room was in the main hotel. It was very clean. We had a queen size bed, good size bathroom, and refrigerator.
The shops on Main Street closed early.
It is a good location as it is in the middle of Main Street.
Downside breakfast was not included in the price.

Stayed here for three days, which is the minimum stay. over Labor Day weekend. We were a group of four in the USA for a two week holiday and this was our most expensive accomodation (US 450+ per night).

The hotel is well situated in the middle of the main Street of Chatham and a reasonable walk to the beach. The rooms, whilst fine did not live up to the expecations generated from the hotel's web-site or the price paid. The rooms were reasonably sized and decently furnished but with a distinct lack of facilities, mini-bar etc and seemed somehwat spartan and just lacking in something. The beds were well sized but very soft mattresses. Good sized bathrooms and eveything very clean.

Our experience of people and service on Cape Cod was variable and this was certainly true of the staff at the Wayside. The ranged from being friendly to surly and competent to inept.

The food in the hotel was pretty decent.

Overall no more than adequate and I am certain there's better value to be had in Chatham!

We stayed at the Wayside Inn for 4 nights in August. Arriving on a very warm afternoon, we were not allowed to check in until 4 - good start! The reception/check-in staff were 'disinterested' and rude, not even being able to direct us to our room once they had almost thrown the key at us. The room was fine, although the bathroom was so small that there was nowhere to put wash bags, apart from on the floor. Our room was on the front of the property, making this just about the noisiest inn room ever. The street sweepers start going up and down at 5.30 am and return for another 'lap' every 15 minutes. The breakfast waiting-on staff were rude to the point of not caring, especially when they realised we weren't American. However the bar staff and evening waiting-on staff were super. There was a definite lack of sense of humour in this inn.

  • Disliked — the street noise and the unfriendliness and almost rudeness of most of the staff

The Chatham Wayside Inn is overpriced and the small town of Chatham is one of the most crowded, uncomfortable communites I have ever visited. Too bad because the ocean views, salt marshes and beach's are beautiful. But boy do you pay a price! Everything, and I mean everything, is way over priced and one gets the feeling you're being scamed by merchants and vendors. The Wayside Inn looks nice form the outside and is indeed well maintained. But again, the prices are unresaonable and service lacking. We had our room changed due to our first location looking out on the Main Street, too loud late into the night. One of the towns "local" bars is right across the street and it''s not condusive to a quiet stay at the Inn.
We checked out other Inns and Hotels while in town and many seem nice, the problem is you still have the crowded, line strewn sidewalks, restaurants and shops to deal with.
