“Winter Retreat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2014

Winter in Chatham is very different. There is a much quieter atmosphere in the hotel and also around town. Many of the stores in town were not open on a Sunday or Monday but we still walked around. We arrived at the hotel early just to have lunch in town first before we checked in. We stayed in one of the Deluxe Cottage Rooms near the Spa Building. The room was nice with a view of the golf course and had a gas fireplace. This happened to be the Sunday of the playoff football game so they had a special menu and set up a large TV for all the guests to watch the game. Great idea! Dinner in the restaurant was great. Having a SPA treatment was the highlight of my trip. My therapist was great and I could have stayed in the locker rooms all day! The Bellman were all very friendly and accommodating since we did not have a car. Next time, I think we will try a room in the main inn.

Dear Beach Love Travel,
T
hank you for your review of Chatham Bars Inn Resort and Spa on Trip Advisor. We appreciate your highlighting our spa, dinner and the game festivities in the South Lounge (although the outcome was not what we had hoped for Pats fans!).

Please don’t hesitate contacting my office in the future regarding the potential of trying one of our Main Inn accommodations, there are a number of options that would work for you.
On behalf of our entire staff we thank you again and will look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Regards,

Last minute trip to Chatham at the Chatham Bars Inn. Had a fantastic time. We stayed in the main building. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Great walk on the beach even though it was chilly!
We go for 2 nights every winter and will be back again!

I have been here three times always in the spring.
- The first time we had an enjoyable stay, it was the Easter weekend and we had a truly memorable brunch with a view on the lovely coast.
- The second time we got very disappointed because we could not have breakfast in the dining hall "with a view" (it was closed for some private event).
- The third time the dining hall was closed for private events all the time! There is really no point in staying in a rather isolated hotel with spectacular views if you cannot have your meals "staring at the sea". I complained. And I must say that a very kind employee set up breakfast for our party in a different area (with a view of the ocean) where they usually only serve coffee between meals. But it was disappointing. You think you are going to a hotel with all sorts of amenities but the amenities are taken over by private events...
The other negative aspect associated to our last stay: we rented a bungalow, overlooking the bay, very spacious and cozy. But the staff kept forgetting to replace cups, spoons and dishes. It was quite annoying to realize every morning that you miss a cup and cannot have your morning coffee in the garden outside the bungalow... For some reasons they also forgot to leave a pair of slippers and a bath robe for one of us.

A positive side: the gentleman who works at the concierge planned a fantastic trip for us to Nantucket. He was super knowledgeable, courteous, informative and effective in finalizing all the reservations. He is a great asset for the Inn.

I hope the overall service improves because I loved going there.

Dear MVOB,

Thank you for your review of Chatham Bars Inn Resort and Spa on Trip Advisor, we appreciate your feedback. While I was pleased to read that your first visit was enjoyable, the second and most recent experience with us seems to have been compromised due to lack of dining room availability. On rare occasions, due to a large group or convention business, we sometimes have to make a last minute judgment call on where breakfast will be served, in either STARS Dining Room or in The Sacred Cod.

On behalf of our entire staff I would like to apologize for the inconvenience this caused you, not once but twice. It is our duty to make every effort in contacting guests in advance when changes such as this occur, which in this case we fell short of expectation. I was however relieved to learn that a member of our staff, recognizing your disappointment, went above and beyond by setting a nice ocean view table in the South Lounge to make up for the change of venue.

I plan to share your comments with members of our management team, specifically our food and beverage and housekeeping departments, regarding your dining points as well as the proper reset of items used in the rooms. Lastly, thank you for highlighting Jon at the concierge desk, I was thrilled to read that he planned a nice Nantucket trip for you to enjoy.

Again, we value your taking the time to address both the positive and constructive aspects of your past three visits to Chatham Bars Inn. Please don’t hesitate contacting my office directly in the future if I can be of direct assistance to you. It is my goal that next time; service and communication, are seamless from arrival through departure, in all aspects of our hospitality.

Truly,

Michael Briggs

Main part of the Inn, which includes the bar/pub and main restaurant, is beautifully maintained. Lunch in the bar – lobster flatbread for one and turkey club for the other – was nicely prepared and presented. Breakfast – fruitplate, coffee, juice and bakery items – came with the room. But, there was a full buffet or many items on the menu for those who wanted a fuller breakfast.
Our room was in one of the cottages, and was wonderfully kept. We did not take advantage of the living room with gas fireplace. The bathroom was good sized, and there was a separate area for makeup.
Two nits: the bath tub did not have a grab-bar for us old farts, and the TV reception was not the best.
That aside, highly recommend the Chatham Bars Inn, and hope to revisit when it is warmer.

stayed in a suite in the main hotel early Jan. (note,CBI open Wed-Sun during winter) Quiet, peaceful, one feels steeped in N.E. whaling history in the main hotel. the two TV suite allowed for guests to visit for tea overlooking the huge deck facing the sea. Gas fireplace in the BR was effective as well as decorative on cold winter nites. the beautiful Stars dining room is closed for dinner so you sit beside the bar. hvg said that, the dinner of scallops & scrod accompanied by a lovely chardonnay was the best i had on the Cape. Breakfast is served in the Stars dining room and watching the bird life over the bay is magical. i swear i saw a red fox hunting rabbits in the garden.

Room Tip: complimentary in room tea is a nice wintry touch but the electric kettle needs a side table as the c...

I purchased "Paint NIte" tickets for my sisters for Christmas and of course we had to stay overnight! Our room in the main Inn was truly amazing! Very spacious and the beds were incredibly comfortable. We enjoyed a light dinner in the Tavern before our painting event and it was perfect. The wait staff were very friendly. We enjoyed a yummy breakfast also the next morning. One of my sisters enjoyed the use of the gym equipment very much. I have stayed several times at CBI and will continue to do so in the future! This is an amazing place to go to relax and forget about whatever! You will leave relaxed and refreshed!

Room Tip: When I stay over during the winter months I like to stay in the Main Inn so I don't have to go o...

Once again, our stay at CBI was everything expected and beyond! Our room in the main hotel was luxurious, providing for every comfort! Speaking of comfort, I have never slept in a more comfortable bed! The great escape from reality started when we were met by our valet (Josh) who removed our luggage for us and, after we registered, escorted us to our room and pointed out all the ammenities available to us! The view from the deck looking over the bay was spectacular. Our entertainment that evening included participating in a "paint night" event which allowed us to mingle with others and have a delightful time. Our light supper in the Tavern was very satisfying. It is always such fun to roam the hotel and appreciate the history and the incredible maintenance that it must require to always present herself in the classy appearance she does! What a well dressed Lady! I was able to fully enjoy a great workout the next morning followed by a delicious breakfast, a dish I would not normally have available! I praise the staff for their attention to detail, their friendliness and helpfullness. We'll be back!
