“Beach clambake is a great take”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

I should disclose that I have not been a fan of Chatham Bars Inn ever since they tried to charge us a gift certificate processing fee several years ago, a travesty that we reported to a local TV station consumer reporter. Nevertheless after years of mediocre, but highly priced fare we attended the clambake they held at their beach venue. In fairness it was terrific. The clam chowder was inundated with bits of bacon and became my favorite among many good clam chowders on Cape Cod. The raw bar was excellent and the lobster was perfectly done. You cannot beat the service for there are tons of students ready to answer your every whim. The beachside setting is one of those great venues that can easily overcome a mediocre menu, but at least this time the menu was worthy of the scenery. Would we go back? Yes with guests we wanted to impress with the beauty of Cape Cod. Would we go back alone? It is a wonderful place, a wonderful setting, an expensive endeavour, I would have to think about it, but if it is your sole journey to Chatham, then go for it; you will not be disappointed.

The rooms are well kept and spacious, the bed is very comfortable and the staff are polite. The charm of New England is abundant. I have enjoyed the relaxing feel of the area.
This has all the making of a world class resort except the experience that comes with staff that has worked in the resort previously. Most of the staff are in their early 20's and do their best but lack the experience needed to make this the place it could be! The spa is an exception, it is top notch! Ask for Mary,if you want an amazing massage.

Room Tip: Getting a room with a view is very difficult in season, they have more without a view. The spa area...

Room issue: we booked a Waterview Cottage Suite based on the picture shown on the website and were seriously disappointed by the room. The pictures are really misleading. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels, and this suite while serviceable and clean WAS NOT 5 star quality. We expected a lighter, brighter suite with a water view from both rooms with nicer furniture in the sitting room, and a higher end bathroom. Instead we had a very dark room with a limited view from one set of windows. Our room opened to a shared porch which had a great view, but the kids and parents from the next room kept swinging on the swing in our area of the porch (major privacy issue since they were standing less than a foot from our windows). Our bedroom backed up to a parking lot and the majority of our windows in the sitting area faced another building and a sidewalk. We constantly had people walking outside our windows. We had no privacy and had to keep our shades drawn when we were in the room. The room also had very limited storage space (closet and drawers). Because of the lack of storage, we were using the window seats as makeshift shelves. Housekeeping kept tidying up our clothes which meant that our sorted stacks of clothes, kept getting rearranged into whatever stacks suited the staff. Also, the timing of housekeeping was really erratic...one morning at 8 and another day at 3:30pm.

Our final issue with the room was the poor quality of the TVs. Some channels did not work. The TV in the sitting room blacked out from time to time.

On the plus side, the room was very clean, the towels and toiletries were great. The bathroom's shower worked great, but the bathroom's pedestal sink was tough for a family of four to share. The closet shared its space with a counter that held a Nespresso (very nice) and glasses and a bar sink. The advertised refrigerator worked well, but was difficult to access because of the way the cupboard and the refrigerator door opened. The beds and linens in the bedroom were 5 star quality. The pull out couch was 3 star or less.

5 STAR FACILITY. The main hotel is lovely with a large game room off the lobby which we used on a cloudy cool day. The veranda and the chairs up on the hill are a lovely place to sit and enjoy the view. On the warmer days, we headed to the pool, beach and peninsula across the channel. The pool chairs are comfortable and there are plenty of umbrellas. The staff was very helpful. We ate lunch at the pool several times. The food was delicious. The chairs at the beach are also great. The staff was great there too. We also took the shuttle to the island across the channel. The boat was lovely and the ride over was great. Our captain was friendly and knowledgeable. The island was beautiful. We saw seals and fish.

Our kids loved the nighttime kids programming and also participated in one daytime program which they also enjoyed. The counselors running the kids program were fantastic.

Room Tip: Be careful booking suites, request a room on the second floor to ensure privacy.

Dear 5-Stars 2014:

Thank you for your detailed review of Chatham Bars Inn Resort and Spa on Trip Advisor, we greatly appreciate your candid feedback. First off I was thrilled to learn of the Five Star service levels and facilities you felt were in place for certain aspects of your visit. Each year we strive for ways to delight our guests and to improve at every turn, the overall resort experience based on great feedback we receive from valued guests such as you. I was disappointed however to learn that certain features of your ocean view suite was not consistent with the rest of your comments. I understand that the manager at our reception desk responded promptly to your feedback and made efforts to resolve any outstanding concerns while you were still here. I wanted to thank you as well for pointing out a photo displayed on our website that was an incorrect representation of the suite where you stayed. We have since made the correction on our end.

I have walked the suite that you referenced today, with our Director of Engineering, Housekeeping and Technology so that we can take action steps to review the specific items in your review, the feedback was helpful and accurate. With some fine tuning, all concerns will be addressed in short order.

If you wish to discuss your review or experience in greater detail, I would be pleased to talk one on one. If so, my direct line is 508.945.6710, or my email is mbriggs@chathambarsinn.com.

Thank you again and on behalf of our entire staff we look forward to seeing your family and you again in the near future under improved overall circumstances.

My wife and I stayed at the Chatham Bars Inn (CBI) for the first time this past weekend. What a fantastic place! From the moment you arrive you feel that you are somewhere special. The staff is extremely gracious, but without any of the stuffiness that sometimes comes with upscale establishments. The interior and exterior of the hotel exude a level of taste and perfection that pleases the eyes, but also let you know that it's OK to relax and wear those pink swim trunks with the crabs on them. The public rooms are extremely comfortable; the outside patios and bars very welcoming; and the restaurants serve excellent food. My wife had a great experience with the spa and with tennis lessons and clinics. Our only complaint would be that my wife did have a hard time getting the spa to return her calls to arrange an appointment. However, that was soon solved by the concierge. There were also a few misteps with food and drink at the beach - but that seemed to be very much the exception, and perhaps was a result of some new staff that appeared to be mid-training. Small misteps are easy to forgive, when the staff drives you into town for dinner or shopping in one of the hotel's BMWs or Land Rovers. We went without our kids, but there is lots of great stuff for kids to do, and multiple events every day that your kids can do without your participation. Overall, this is a five-star experience that you're going to want to turn into an annual event with the whole family.

Room Tip: We stayed in the main building and we quite happy. Our room was small, but very nice. We spoke wit...

Just returned from a three night stay at CBI and all I can say is I wish I could have stayed longer. The facility is really beautiful and the staff was so warm and friendly. I went with my husband but can't wait to go back next summer with our kids. There are kids programs which looked fantastic! Tennis, spa and concierge all were equally great. The only snafu came when ordering food/drinks at the beach (there computer wasn't working) and trying to make a spa appointment (there voicemail wasn't working). But the concierge, Sam tracked me down at the pool to personally help me book an appointment. This is not a "budget friendly" establishment but it's worth ever penny! Thank you for an awesome getaway CBI!

We had our wedding at the Boathouse at Chatham Bars Inn (CBI) on June 12, 2014. The week before the wedding we also stayed at CBI for 2 nights, as well as stayed at CBI the night of the wedding along with 2 of our closest friends. CBI was the perfect setting for our wedding. We could not have been happier. Our friends and family were also very impressed with the overall wedding. The venue, food and service was excellent and way exceeded our expectations, which were already very high.

Above all, Kate and Clarissa with CBI were amazing. Every phone call and email we sent was answered quickly and thoroughly. Every detail leading up to the wedding and on the actual wedding day was managed and executed with perfection. Having never been married before nor assisted with the planning of any wedding, this was a very daunting task for us. However, Kate and Clarissa made this process extremely easy and stress-free.

We look forward to visiting CBI again very soon.

Room Tip: The rooms at the Spa are amazing - absolutely 5 star. Also, if you have a family, the cottages faci...

This was our first visit to the cape and even thought the weather was not great we could see how it could be fun. However there is no reason to pay the high prices at CBI. Rooms are clean but service is not worth the money. They treat you like a second class citizen and charge you like a millionaire ! Tried to preorder breakfast for a early morning departure and they told me they are too busy to help me. From the time we checked in to the time we left everything was that way. Like we were unconvincing them by being here. Try someplace else.
