If you have a child attending the nearby academy at swift river school , you are not good enough to be a guest here. I am a business owner and proud parent of a student at the academy but when I tried to book a room at this establishment, I was told by both of the proprietors that the don't rent to "those families". And the explanation.....wait for it.....was because" those parents are often experiencing difficulties with their children and they don't want them to return from the visits and share it with the other guests at their one breakfast table." Didn't realize this kind of ignorance and discrimination was still acceptable practice in business. Guess you better not have any difficulties going on in your life if you plan to be a paying customer here....YOU may offend someone .

Management response:Responded 2 December 2010

As the owners of the Seven Hearths Bed and Breakfast, we have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all of our guests. If an inquiring guest may potentially put other guests or ourselves at risk, we will decline the reservation. We do so knowing that our income will be reduced by not taking the reservation. That was the case with these individuals, who have decided to call us bigots. We did not discriminate against any protected class of individuals nor do we. These individuals chose to bring this to the state Attorney General's office and we have been formally cleared of any wrong doing.

We have been in business for twenty years and have hosted diverse populations from all over the world who have been welcomed into our home based Bed and Breakfast.

Recently had a stay with Doc and Denise at Seven Hearths, and had a fantastic time! Enormous, delicious, home-cooked breakfasts each morning served by our chipper and jovial hosts. Their home is spacious and cozy, located in the beautiful foothills of the Berkshires. Extremely knowledgeable about the area (both grew up nearby), they arranged several activities for us, recommending some must-see's we'd have missed otherwise. Can't recommend it enough!

We spent the 4th of July weekend with Doc and Denise and had a wonderful time!... Ever smiling-laughing Doc and "busy bee" Denise make you feel truly welcome and check in with you repeatedly... Even their two labs are well-behaved, and we hardly heard them bark... On the last day, after checkout, since no one had reserved our room for the day, Doc and Denise were very kind to allow us to leave our stuff there and come back for it later, and even use the bathroom, before we headed back home...

Reasonably priced, the (air-conditioned) rooms are spacious, comfortable (with a private, fully equipped bath), and clean. Plenty of storage space!... Breakfasts are rich, tasteful, and satisfying!... The whole place is nicely decorated and feels very cozy... A shared, guest refrigerator offers guests complimentary water bottles and a place to store their wines or other goodies... Cable TV (downstairs in the living room) and free internet connection are there for those who must stay "connected..." While the house is located on Chesterfield's Main Rd. (Rt 143), you wouldn't be able to tell... The grounds - all around the house - are wide and shady, inviting one for a quiet read or contemplation...

A friendly General Store is just down the road, Northampton is only minutes away, and Amherst (where you can watch a fire works display on the 4th) is but a 20 min drive... Many outdoors attractions (for hiking, swimming, biking) and photo-ops are all around, and on the 4th, for a few hours, you can also enjoy the local, historic parade and activities (the oldest and one of the few remaining in this area), right near the house, in the center of town...

Highly recommended!... You'd want to come back (and it's open year round, with a 3-season hot tub)!...

O and D, Newton MA

A fireplace that can actually be used! And it was ready to light when we got there, how nice, as were our hosts. Very genuine, felt like we were at home.
