“Modern Comfort in Historic Surroundings”
Reviewed 1 December 2013

We needed to attend to some business in the middle of a five day family driving tour. The Deerfield Inn provided a perfect setting for spending a few unavoidable hours on the internet while still maintaining the ambience of an old New England Country Inn. The one Deerfield Academy graduate in our clan had a wonderful time revisiting old haunts while the workaholic got everything done and could relax for the rest of the trip. The rooms are comfortable, service at dinner and breakfast was friendly and efficient. We might come here the next time something needs to be written in an inspiring atmosphere.

Took my Mom to Deerfield to spend 3 nights. We stayed in a 2 queen room that was lovely with blue and hummingbird decorations. It was perfect as my Mom loves hummingbirds. The little things like the coffee pods and a pitcher of ice water in the room every day were great. We ate at the restaurant and that was very good at well. Staff friendly and wanting to make sure we were having a good time.

Thank you for choosing us for your girls' getaway days! I am sorry you didn't get to meet our wonder dog, Jack, but next time he will be here to greet you. He is new at his job as marketing manager, and we need to let him build up his skills! Have a very happy Christmas, and we send best wishes for all good things in the new year.

We had never been to Deerfield and had no expectations of the town or the inn. What a wonderful surprise. We didn't have time to tour the town but will be back to enjoy the complimentary trial membership in the historical society. The inn was perfect - we had tea by the fire in the reception area, dinner & breakfast in the restaurant. Our room - a superior queen- was great but only had one reading chair so next time we'd go for the king room to have the extra seating. Otherwise, they thought of everything.

We are so delighted that you discovered Deerfield! Lucky us. Thank you for saying you won't be strangers. Some of the queens do have room for two chairs, and if we can, we do upgrade to a king for the same price, so it might all work out! All good wishes for peace and joy in the holiday season ahead.

Your visit to Historic Deerfield will not be complete without a stay at the Deerfield Inn. It has been totally renovated. Our room had great historic elegance with a comfortable king sized bed and a beautiful updated bathroom with a huge shower.

The restaurant has been redesigned into various seating areas which works very well.

Room Tip: We were in the Horatio Alger Room -- #141. It was large and very well appointed. We even had 5 win...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The lobby was so welcoming with the fire crackling and warm. Our room was quiet, comfortable and nicely decorated. We loved the coffee in the hallway and the breakfast was delicious. The staff all friendly and very helpful. We are planning to return in the summer for a tour of Deerfield Village.

We arrived early (9:30 a.m.) and were pleasantly surprised to see our room was ready for early checkin. We were greeted by friendly staff and a real fire burning in the fireplace of the hotel lobby. Our room, in the guest house behind the main building, was comfortably furnished with a king bed and a mix of antique and new furniture. There was a small bag of candy on the bed and a "candle" car air freshener on the dresser to welcome us. The bathroom had a heated floor, a shower with wall jets, and very nice towels. Two microfiber robes (which can be purchased by those who choose to do so) hung in the closet along with nice wood hangers for my husband and padded silk hangers for me. The complimentary breakfast offered a choice of selections each day, including french toast, eggs Benedict, granola, fruit and yogart, or your choice of eggs with bacon, hash browns, and toast. We found the hotel staff to be very cordial and the hotel to be efficiently run. We recommend the Deerfield Inn and a visit to Historic Deerfield Village.

We had a fabulous experience at the Deerfield Inn in November of 2013. Although not our first visit, we were particularly pleased with the new dining room and casual bar. The menu is sourced primarily from local farms and our selections were superb, and service excellent. Our room was in the carriage house and was very comfortable and had just the right level of elegance.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Deerfield Inn first opened in July 1884 while both a drought and grasshoppers were plaguing the village. The disasters went, but the guests stayed for "the atmosphere and charm of early days, with modern comfort and convenience" with breakfast starting at 30¢ and a room with running water from $1.50. Today we have 24 comfortable and pleasing guestrooms and farm-to-fork Champney's Restaurant & Tavern. We source locally, make our own infusions, support area microbrewers, and in our 131st year we remain the centerpiece of Old Deerfield, a National Historic Landmark, and a Select Registry Property. ... more   less
