“Great for kids! Even on rainy days!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2009

This was our third time staying at C&C. We have one child and we brough him here when he was 3, 5 and 7. There has been plenty for him to do at each age so far. This particular visit was particularly challenging because Cape Cod has had a rainy spring and it rained nearly every day of our week. However, because of the activities building at C&C, we still had ways to entertain our son. He loved the indoor pool and the game room (foosball, air hockey and table tennis). I felt that we got good value out of that building! Another reason we stay here in the proximity to the beach. This time whevever we saw a speck of sun we would get our stuff together and we could be on the beach in 5 minutes. We also enjoy walking to dinner. There are at least three good quality restaurants within a 10 minute walk (also the best icecream on the Cape - the original Sundae School). Lastly, this time we booked a unit in the CrossRip building because it had full appliances. This turned out to save us approx. $150 in meal costs (breakfast each day + lunch one day). So, if you have children and these things matter as much to you as they do to us, this is the best place to stay in Dennisport and possibily on the Cape (for the money).

Visited the cape 6/3/09 to 6/8/09 to attend a wedding and stayed in the Cross Rip building. The room was very spacious with two beds and a full kitchen area. Very comfortable bedding with large fluffy comforters and many pillows. Spacious bathroom with Jacuzzi tub, only negative to the bathroom was it lacked an exhaust fan, however there was a full size window that could be opened to let the steam out. Overall I'd give the room a good grade for being occupant friendly, well decorated, and priced fairly.
Best feature I liked in the room was the full size lounge chair where I spent my late nights reading a good book.

There was available each morning in the Corsair building a continental breakfast that most anyone could find something to please them. These items were available daily,
apples, bananas, cranberries, walnuts, raisins, granola, three cereals, oat meal, many different types of muffins, danishes, pastries, apple juice, orange juice, whole milk and skim milk. Seating was communal and everyone got to meet and know one another.

Couldn't finish my review without mentioning our most gracious host " James" at the front desk. James was always available to give a good recommendation on where to trek off to to see some sights or give great advice on where to eat. He didn't mind telling you if he hadn't been there, so he couldn't say one way or the other.

If you like to take an exercising walk on something other than the beach, there is a new community park opened up about two blocks down the ocean road with very good walking paths (not asphalt but fine gravel screenings) that are very comfortable to whatever pace you are walking/jogging. The trail begins in the closest back corner of the SeaView parking lot.

The weather on the cape isn't always what you want it to be but there are many things to do and explore during those periods.

The front desk (Mark & James) and their help are the best. This will be our 4th year back in August, 2009 and we recommend it highly. Our grandchildren love it because of the ocean, pool and the indoor pool . You can walk to restaurants that are close by . We have a great time here and very relaxing.

When I made the reservation, I emphasized several times the importance of quiet, even working with the agent on choosing an appropriate room.

We never learned - until we got there - that two wedding parties were staying there at the same time. Our room was surrounded by members of the party who stayed up quite late - almost overnight - drinking and partying. We probably got as much sleep as they did (2-3 hours) our first night.

To the credit of the hotel, we were given a choice of moving to another room or checking out with a refund. We chose the latter because of the weather, but probably would have moved if the weather was better.

The rooms themselves are a little tired and our room was smaller than we thought it would be, but were clean and close to the ocean. If you go, be sure to ask about other events and try to get a front room that is not near the parking lot.

  • Liked — Proximity to beach and ocean
  • Disliked — Location of room to common porch & NOISE! 2-week cancellation requirement.

Usually, we can anticipate or control noisiness that may disturb our guests. Noisey neighbors can be the exception to the rule. It is unfortunate that the reviewer's neighbors were inconsiderate with a late-night party. To the credit of my staff, they took action as soon as the guest brought the problem to their attention. Under the circumstances, an offer to move (and upgrade) the room or a refund were appropriate remedies, and, although we don't like to see a guest leave disappointed, it is heartening to hear they would have stayed in the upgraded room but for the bad weather.
In addition to the refunding of the reviewer's deposit, we have sent a gift certificate to try us another time. We hope to see them back to enjoy the facilities and have a quiet weekend away! Mark Downey

We had only seen the website photos before we booked. When we arrived in the middle of the night we weren't sure what we had done, but we were very pleasantly surprised. From the beds to the kitchenettes, to the bathroom amenities, to the complimentary full-size grills at one's disposal, to the beautiful beach that is raked by invisible hands at night, to the very knowledgeable staff with customer service skills that must be the envy of other motels, thanks for the weekend!

Overall review: Pleasant rooms with annoyances. No useable view of the ocean or ocean sounds in our rooms. Unheated outdoor pool killed any resort convenience and feeling. Security fences obstructed views of the land and ocean. Too expensive for the experience.

At the Corsair, 1st floor:
Room A Aug 2008 Angled ocean view $270 + $26 tax
Room B Aug 2008 Direct pool view $270 + $26 tax

The rooms were clean, the beds soft, sheets felt clean, lots of bath towels, 4 large beach towels for use outside of room. Good housekeeping service. Bar soap, tissues, small shampoo is provided.

Key in knob door lock, with inside bolt. No room safe.

Room from back to front:
Exit door to "back" of motel row; kitchenette area and bathroom; bed area with two queen beds, bedside table between, dressers, TV; sliding folding room divider; small sitting area with table, chairs, microwave*, and convertible single couch; sliding glass doors to parking or pool area, air conditioner in wall under window, heavy drapes to block light.

Lots of drawers, enough room to place luggage and walk around.

Large TV with free HBO and standard cable, no premium or pay per view services, and remote control. Signal had interference for 2 seconds every 2-5 minutes. Channel guide supplied by local pizza shop.

Kitchen area is small but OK, with pots, dishes, glasses, knives, detergent, sponge, dish towel, toaster oven, coffee maker and coffee packets, two-ring portable electric hot plate, adequate cube refrigerator*, small stainless steel bar sink. Dish drainer in storage cabinet, no dish washer.

Adequate parking. Friendly staff at front desk.
Ice machine free, coke machine, one washer+dryer $2.50 each in coins.

Outdoor unheated pool, outdoor hot tub, foot shower, three large round tables with umbrellas, lounge chairs at the patio edge overlooking the beach and at the pool. Six foot fence at the deck edge. Indoor heated pool in separate building.

Three large gas grills are available around the property. But, no side tables or preparation areas if we had tried to use them.

Double Minus:

- Outdoor pool not heated, and too cold for us. We saw only a few children swimming in it from time to time. Motel advertising does not state that outdoor pools are heated or unheated.
- Room B would have direct access to the pool, but there is a fixed, three foot high, wooden fence and railing just inside the sliding door, making exit difficult and dangerous. Sliding door does not lock from the outside.
- Room A "angled view of ocean" only if you stand right next to the front window. Direct view of parking spaces. Room B looks out to the pool, with same sort of "angled view of ocean".
- Corsair and CrossRip are advertised as a "resort". Feels like two motels next to each other.
- The sitting area near the windows and sliding door seems designed to use the single bed sleeper couch, by closing the room divider for privacy. But, the curtains didn't close completely, giving too much light, and closing the divider would have isolated the air conditioner in the small, closed-off area, an unworkable design. We didn't need to use the sleeper couch.
- No room safe, combined with flimsy key-in-knob locks.

Minus:

- Indoor heated pool is a 1 block walk and across the road.
- Room A has direct access to the parking lot, limited use because the sliding door does not lock from the outside. All locked exit is through the back door with a walk around.
- Drapes on sliding doors don't close completely. Room B folding divider would not catch closed, magnetic catch missing. Bright sun in morning.
- Microwave sits on breakfast table, little room left to eat there.
- Tables and lounges are available on a concrete deck next to and above the ocean beach (good). But, 7 foot metal fence along the edge interferes with the view, especially at sunset.
- Pictures of the pool area are exaggerated.
- Ice machine has large bin. Looked clean, but could become contaminated.
- Room A - window blinds in bathroom could not be adjusted to close completely.
- Room B - Bathtub is narrow, shower curtain touches when showering.
- Room B - Refrigerator iced up, maybe bad seal, would not cool beer.
- No hooks or drying racks for towels and swimsuits.

Annoying:

- Light switches were arbitrary and unlabeled; had to try them all to find out what switch went with what light.
- We were told that coffee is provided each early morning on a table beside the front registration desk. Rolls are provided in the late morning. We didn't try either.
- Room A had large bottle of spring water on the dresser, for $2.50. We didn't use it and were not charged.
- Local calls are $.45 from the room phone.

Restaurants:

Looks fast food, but the food is great. Perfectly broiled shrimp with the taste left in, generous lobster rolls with just a bit of sauce on the lobster meat, light fried fish, cold beer.

The Barnstable Restaurant and Tavern
Route 6A, Barnstable Village [-]
We ate outdoors at the umbrella tables. Nice garden plantings.
We loved the cold shrimp coctail, beet and orange salad, and wild mushroom ravioli with grilled chicken in parmesan cream sauce. $25 each, including tip. 50% more expensive than the formica places, for elegant food in a garden, with great service.

We love to read reviews that are as comprehensive as this one, although we're sorry to hear the guest was not delighted with our location on the beach. It is important to clarify that we do, in fact, have a heated
outdoor pool (one of three pools we have to offer). The fence the reviewer describes is installed at the edge of a 10-foot sea wall, and has vertical rails that are just three-quarters of an inch to maximize views. All of these facilities are pictured from many
views on our website and in our printed materials.
Also, all of the first-floor rooms that open onto the pool patio by law have a safety barrier installed to prevent our toddler guests from taking an unsupervised dip in the pool. We recognize that this is an inconvenience to guests who prefer not to step over it, as they must exit through the room's main door and enter the patio through the gate, but
children's safety is paramount. We offer a picture of this room and its view of the ocean, including the wooden safety barrier, on our website.
We strive to exceed our guests' expectations, and, in order to do this, we produce marketing materials which are fair and accurate. Anything else could only produce disappointment for all involved. While we can't change our physical plant or safety devices, we hope the reviewer will take
advantage of a complimentary stay to re-explore all that we have to offer. Mark Downey-Downey family owned and operated for over thirty-years.
