In Japan David, the proprietor, would probably be listed as a Ningen Kokuho. His personality pervades the Old Landings. Friendly, chatty, and probably the best cappuccinos on the Cape. This is my third stay, each time at the start of the season when new service staff are learning the ropes. David trains them well, and sets high standards, which they have always met.
The rooms are comfortable but basic, and the decor a kind of shabby beach chic. And the motel is a short walk over a car park to the beach, which is great. If you want high end, you'll go elsewhere. But the Chatham Bars Inn - of which I'm a major fan - would have cost me eight times as much for this visit.
I come here for fishing. I'm off at dawn, and out in the evening. The Old Landing is perfect for anyone who is on the Cape for an activity-based holiday. If you want to sit around sipping cocktails or spend a lot of time in your room this might not be the place for you. But if you want a comfortable, relaxed and friendly base this is, frankly, a bit of a no-brainer.More
