“great cape escape”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 September 2011

Our first time at a B&B and it was great. Would go back! My mom recommended after her stay a few years ago and it lived up to all her raves. Clean, yummy treats, great breakfast, nice private beach, lots of tips from the owner. Will be back!

Everything was lovely... the personal and friendly service, the cleanliness, great homemade breakfasts with an ocean view, private beach and all chairs/blankets/umbrellas supplied, rooms with ocean view were a real treat. Appreciated the 24/7 use of the shared living room as well as the kitchen... with free coffee, lemonade, sweet treats and fruits. Felt very at home and relaxed, views were gorgeous, Marie and other employees were always helpful with recommendations and questions. Well located.. felt private yet very close to restaurants and shopping. Room was clean and had refrigerator, a/c, and fan... which all came in handy at times. Perfect couples getaway... we stayed 5 nights and will be back again. We highly recommend this place!

Room Tip: Prices vary, so it depends on what you can spend, but ocean view is lovely to have.

My wife and I have enjoyed By the Sea for several years, and once again enjoyed our stay immensely. The personal warmth provided by the owner, staff, and assistants are exceptional, with their thoughtful & caring surprise gifts of wine & chocolates commemorating our anniverary being a prime example... the room, ours overlooking the beach, being of top quality and beautiful decorations... the breakfasts are always so delightful, unique, and varied... the cookies, sweets, coffee, and lemonade, that are available on the veranda all day long are so delicious.. and walking out the door onto a beautiful, private beach are what represents to us the essence of Cape Cod.

Room Tip: The most enjoyable and appreciated rooms are the rooms above the veranda, overlooking the beach.

First, the owner Helen is VERY nice and offered great info on local eateries, things to do etc... The location by the beach is excellent though the beaches in this part of the cape aren't as nice as further northeast toward Nauset. We wanted to stay ON the beach and though the suite we rented was not directly on the ocean like the B&B rooms, it's still fine. We could not hear the ocean with our windows open from our suite 1C Efthalias, take note. Other local motels/hotels had pools which would have been nice in the afternoons but that's a personal choice.

Reminder: suites do not include breakfast. Rooms in B&B building do. Coffee, lemonade & cakes are free to all guests throughout the day.

Confirming other comments, the walls are thin, you can hear walking upstairs and noise from the next rooms but it didn't bother us while sleeping, only during the mornings or late afternoons and it was tolerable.

Our suite was immaculate. Not sure where the previous comment about an unclean suite but ours was perfectly clean and we're picky. The bed was comfy. The bathroom & kitchen all worked well, no complaints.

Local Food: get casual lobster & steamers at bargain prices at Wooden Shoe, 3 blocks away.

Elegant dining, great food, great view down the block at Ocean View Restaurant! Make a reservation and ask for a table on the water's edge side.

Nice meal, warm atmosphere Ebb Tide

So within 3 blocks of By The Sea there are 3 great restaurants, each offering a different experience. Last, Sundae School for EXCELLENT must have home made ice cream sundaes!!! All in all, a nice place to stay and only a little over priced. Fair value for the suite would have been $250/night, we paid $315. Remember to mention you have AAA when booking for a $10/night discount.

This was our first visit here and WHAT A FIND!! We will return. The owners and staff are the most delightful and funny folks you will ever meet in the inn business. They knew it was our anniversary so they had champagne and chocolates in our room when we arrived.

They take care of every detail and go out of their way to be helpful. They even came out to the each to be sure everything was to your satisfaction. Excellent customer service at reasonable prices. The Inn by the Sea is a Jewel and the people there are GEMS!!!

Reading the comments from the guests on the site makes me think that the Inn has to seriously revamp the room we were staying in (Nicholas 1A). There were lots of problems with our room that ruined our stay. First of all, the walls are super-thin and we heard everyone leave and enter our suite (and I am sure they heard our noises too)! The kitchen was dirty upon arrival (dirty coffee carraffe, dirty oven, dirty floors). When we complained, they cleaned it (cleaning staff super nice). We paid in advance for a crib (ridiculous price of $15 per day) and we got a pack and go the first day (with no refunds). When we asked, we got the crib. The bed frame was broken, the TV ancient. The owners were very nice and tried to accommodate us. However, the problem is the room itself. We loved the private beach and the veranda was great. Great location in Dennisport as you can walk to numerous restaurants. I think the B&B is a better deal as you get a nice breakfast and the Inn seems much nicer on that part. Overall, the administration was not very organized (we got different answers from everyone) and often not avail (by phone or in person in office). For $310/night, I expect better service!

Room Tip: Stay out of the rooms too close to the entryway.

By The Sea Guests has and will continue to modernize and upgrade all of our Suites and Rooms.
We have just reopened our suites with new floors and acoustic barriers, couches, chairs, linens, etc.
We pride ourselves in our cleanliness and are so sorry that the Guests in this room were disappointed. We spend 2 hours in each of our Suites before the Guests arrive.

Our kitchen floor was washed with the wooden floor cleanser, upon this Guest's arrival, and we do apologize for this. The Housekeeping staff picked up the wrong bottle by mistake.

Most people are satisfied with a pack and play, and this Guest did receive a crib when they requested one instead. Yes, we do charge for a crib rental.

Each Suite has full Cable television (HBO included) and Internet connectivity, as well as wireless.

We have not found anything wrong with the "Bed Frame", after careful inspection and we we are sorry that these Guests never said anything to us about the Bed frame when they were here. That way they could have shown us what we could not find on our own inspection.

Our staff is usually found either on the Veranda, during breakfast hours, or in the office between 9:30 and 8:00 PM.

Our 2 Bedroom Suite is quite luxurious, but is over $400.00 per night, in Season. I highly recommend this Guest to upgrade to the luxurious Suite at the higher price. We would be happy to accommodate them in these Suites. There is a magnificent view of the Sea as well!!

Kindest regards,
Claire Gonet

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful anniversary weekend at By the Sea Guests. We were very impressed from the start because, when we we arrived in our room, there was a bottle of champagne on ice, champagne glasses, a gift and card, compliments of the owners and staff! I would still give the property a 5 star rating even if there had not been the extra surprises because the location is ideal, the private beach fantastic, the accommodations immaculate and very comfortable and the staff is friendly and helpful. Along with a hearty breakfast, there are snacks, coffee, tea, lemonade and spring water available at all times. Unlike some Bed and Breakfasts where you are made to feel that you are in the owner's home, at By the Sea Guests, you feel like YOU are at home. We spend our anniversary weekend at a B&B on the Cape each year and this is our favorite--we would definitely return.
