“Nice hotel, room for improvement”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

We stayed a couple nights here to visit family in the area and found it to be a pleasant hotel which has a few issues to address. The grounds outside were well kept and appealing, and the lobby is nice, with a small store to one side selling the usual snacks and drinks. Check-in was easy, and seeing my name on a list of Marriott Rewards members was nice.

The room itself was a typical older-style Springhill Suites room, with a half wall and a TV between the two sections on a swivel. The TV is a bit on the small side for the size of the room. The bathroom is a little cramped -- definitely only one person at a time at the vanity, and there wasn't a fan in the shower area. The shower was VERY HOT, so much so that we had to forbid our daughter from touching the controls so it stayed below a scalding temperature. They really need to lower the hot water temperature to avoid injuring guests. Seriously, it went that hot.

The bed was very comfortable, and the air conditioning system worked well. Kudos to the property for putting a shield on top of the AC unit so that most of the air didn't blow in between the curtain and window. AC wasn't overly loud, either -- not quiet (they never are!) but not excessive. Pillows were very good, too. Lastly on the room, the small sink and fridge area (with microwave) was really nice and unobstrusive. Enough room to prepare food, store things, yet keep it out of sight.

One thing: You need more plugs for devices! There were two plugs on the desk lamp, one plug by the microwave, and two plugs in the bathroom (two on the wall weren't near any tables). With three people (two phones, one iPod, one tablet, cordless shaver), we basically ran out of plugs. Why no outlets by the nightstands?

BIG GRIPE: The breakfast was shoddy. This is a consistent ding on many Springhill Suites, but their breakfast just does not match the pricepoint or service level of the hotel. It's essentially nearly the same breakfast as Fairfield Inn at a higher price -- foam plates, CHEAP plastic utensils, the exact same bread offerings, eggs and bacon/sausage, and a waffle station plus yogurt, fruit, and cereal. In addition, when the hotel is near or at capacity, management needs to assign an additional person to help with breakfast. The poor woman was just overwhelmed trying to keep up, and when we arrived for breakfast, nearly everything was empty, and the place needed cleaning. Big fail, Marriott.

Few more random thoughts. Noise level in the room was fine. There were some noisy people down the hall, but we couldn't hear them. Pool looked fine but no hot tub. I didn't see the fitness area. There's a good restaurant just outside called The Devens Grille which is worth checking out. Nearest pharmacy is about 5 miles away (CVS).

Overall, we were pleased with our stay. However, given the breakfast situation, we might look for alternatives if we travel to this area again. That's not necessarily specific to this hotel though because I'm coming to that conclusion about Springhill Suites in general.

I stayed here with my wife and daughter for one night to attend a family gathering. The staff here was super friendly and very accommodating to our requests. The room was super clean and breakfast was wonderful. Wish I had time to swim in their pool as it looked really inviting but I did not have the time. Would definitely stay here again.

I stayed at this hotel for one night and it was a comfortable room. My daughter and I stayed in a room with a king sized bed. It was quite roomy, with a sitting area, bathroom and separate sink/mirror area. Nice to have the toilet and shower separate. There was also a desk, and a "kitchen area" with microwave and mini fridge. Very convenient. The place was clean and cozy. Everyone I came in contact with was pleasant and helpful. There was a nice breakfast offering between 7-10am. My only complaint was the walls are thin. When we first arrived, we could easily hear our neighbor's phone conversation through the bedroom wall. I was quite concerned, but luckily, when they came back to their room for the night, they were quiet. (yes, we could hear their comings and goings).

I stayed here recently for the night. The front desk staffing was amazing! They were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and the hotel itself was clean, well appointed, and maintained well. Typical Springhill floorplan, and convenient to several highways. A Dunkin' Donuts, and gas station with convenience store are within walking distance.
If I'm ever in the area I would definitely stay here again, and would recommend to anyone visiting nearby.

Excellent hotel - it's in a great spot - has a very friendly staff - the room I stayed in was terrific and well kept - the housekeeping staff over achieved on the room - it has a pretty cool fitness center - a great little breakfast area.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are quiet and well kept

Outstanding nights spent in this Marriott property. I would stay here the next time as well. Tremendous breakfast, fitness center, and friendly staff ties it all together. Plenty of places to walk from the hotel. Located on the old Fort Devens military installation.
