I have been coming to Cape Cod since childhood. There were years of motels on busy roads early on. In recent years there have been delightful family gatherings at rented cottages a few miles from the beach. Recently, my husband and I wanted the true Cape Cod experience without the need for our own cottage. The search was on!!!
How delightful to discover Ship's Knees Inn in East Orleans. Just a short walk to Nauset Beach, a wonderful cozy place to stay, friendly, helpful owners, a truly fine breakfast savored in the courtyard under blooming Rose of Sharon bushes, a daily refreshing swim in the lovely pool, and the sense of gentle evening after the visit to sunset at Rock Harbor by sitting around the firepit before retiring to our room.
It has been a long time since we have both had such a feeling of quiet contentment and although we took delightful daytrips to Provincetown and Wellfleet and Chatham , it was the anticipated return to our home base and its welcoming presence that made the week away so memorable. We will return for another week next year, but I suspect this autumn will find us needing a touch of Cape Cod magic once again at Ship's Knees Inn.More
