My husband and I recently spent a weekend at this motel, where we have stayed in the past. The grounds are beautiful--flowers everywhere, and many inviting places to sit outside with a book or cold drink. The motel is family owned, and they treat all their guests like one of their own. They offer a very reasonably priced (and delicious!) breakfast during the summer season. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. It is reasonably priced and has a lot to offer.

We visit Cape Cod 5-7 times a year, and for the last ten years have always stayed at The Town Crier. The rooms are always clean, as is the linen and carpets; a call to the front desk will get you extra pillows, towels, whatever.

Location - the National Seashore Museum and beaches are about 1 mile from the motel. The bike path can be accessed from The Town Crier's property; we use it to take safe, peaceful walks. Provincetown/Race Point are only a thirty minute drive. And Arnold's Seafood is right next door (I don't know if this is good or bad, I guess it depends on how disciplined you are regarding snacking).

Ameneties - there's a covered heated swimming pool that's cleaned daily, attached to The Town Crier's restaurant that serves breakfast during the peak season, and a game room that was closed for a couple months last year for renovation. All the rooms have individual a/c and heat; the a/c is turned off until the outside tempature requires the need, but a call to the front desk can get it turned on earlier.

Recommendation - our continued use of The Town Crier is our testimonial. We have referred relatives, friends and work associates and have never heard a discouraging comment. During our sixty-five plus visits we have experienced a broken tv, no remote and a broken a/c; each situation was resolved within 24 hours. We've stayed at four-star accomodations throughout the country where similar problems would be met with a shrug of the shoulders.

This place was horrible. Went in May of '04.

The good:
Nice price, especially in the shoulder season. Got the whale watch package deal. Didn't charge for our 5 year old neice.
Note: the package deal includes vouchers for 2 breakfasts and a dinner. During the shoulder season they don't use their own restaurant (it's closed) but instead use the Fairway- I have to say that I am a big fan of this restaurant!!!
Pool seemed clean, but had some bugs and leaves floating in it.
Friendly staff.

The bad:
Room was FILTHY. Fabric on chairs looked like they had been left outside in the rain for a month, extra dirty. Blankets were stained and had dirt particles all over them. Comforter had cigarette stains.
Room STANK like smoke and something else. Not sure what the something else is.
No shower curtain in the room, bathroom flooded.
Bathroom fan didn't work properly. Was apparently broken when turned on (CLANG CLANG CLANG). Room was consequently humid.
AC didn't turn on.
Remote for TV didn't work.
Not enough towels.
Doors connecting to adjoining room were flimsy and proably could open with a good enough push.
Room was next to power lines. If the window was open, all you could hear was BUZZZZZZZZ especially when it rained or was foggy.
Restaurant/game room closed during shoulder season (others have been open during our travels to the Cape in the shoulder season).
The comforters on the bed got dirty(ER) and we left one by the door, obviously dirty and in need of washing. Did they replace it? NO! They put it back on the bed. So what did we do that night? Took all of their blankets down to the laundrymat in Orleans and washed them. That's nonsense!
We had to put our own sheet over the bed just so we could be comfortable sleeping!!
The inside of the rooms is in need of some serious renovations. The bathrooms were styled circa 1970.

The place was so nasty that I had dreams that roaches were crawling all over me! At least I HOPE it was just a dream...

We were so sickened by this place that we left a day early (only stayed 2 nights). We didn't even stop at the desk, I just dropped the keys in the quick-drop and left. I didn't even want to talk to the people there. I didn't even want my money back. Maybe they can hire better cleaning people with the extra money.

Management response:Responded 26 April 2005

We are appalled by this review. Whenever anyone is dissatisfied with anything at the Town Crier; which is seldom, we do everything in our power to correct the situation. This customer never indicated any problem at all; therefore we did not have an opportunity to make things right for him or to verify any of the complaints he made in his review. Of course sometimes things go wrong, but it is just not possible for all these allegations to be accurate; in view of the fact that we knew nothing about this, and the room continued to be rented with no further complaints. We feel victimized because this person has slandered our name publicly without any communication with us. Furthermore, this review was written several months after their stay here. I am bewildered by this and have never read a more malicious attack and cannot believe it has been applied to our friendly, quaint little motel. Thank you, TripAdvisor, for the opportunity to respond.
