“Great Stay at the Eagle Wing - Again”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2007

We have stayed at the Eagle Wing every year during August for several years now - usually midweek. Jerry and Mary, the owners, have been there to meet and greet us, give us dining recommendations, chat with us during our stay, and personally wish us well and a safe trip on our departure. They have been a pleasure to come to know and share stories with.

The Eagle Wing is always clean and well maintained, and supports green initiatives like conservation while meeting all our needs for a comfortable stay. We stayed in rooms 1 and 3 this year, and very much enjoyed their new configuration with a larger bath. The location is convenient to the National Seashore beaches, restaurants, the bike trail, and many attractions in the lower Cape.

We will definitely return again soon for another stay.

We've read the two or three reviews which referenced feeling watched, monitored, etc. Indeed, if you enjoy staying with your slightly cranky aunt and uncle, lots of rules and an attitude that you're basically an annoyance to be endured, then this is the place for you. One is subjected to a third degree grilling upon check-in as well as to endless stories about how poorly people behave and how dishonest they are. I understand that this business can create a negative attitude, but sharing that with guests is a huge mistake. We felt a distrust regarding everything we did. And we followed all the rules!

Yes, it's quiet and can be relaxing (provided you manage to avoid the owners), but how about an enjoyable dip in the pool on a hot afternoon? Hey, it's 90 degrees out, but there's that sign that says "no food or drink," so forget about even bringing a bottle of water. Who knows what punishment awaits if you break THAT rule?

We appreciate the cleanliness and care of the owners--in short, all the positives mentioned by other reviewers. But after staying here twice, we have decided to look elsewhere for that romantic getaway. I have no doubt that for older people (and most of the clientele seem to be in that demographic), this is Nirvana. But I suspect that this is not a place that will be enjoyed by those under 40.

This couple who stayed with us for a week in August 2005 clearly appreciates the cleanliness and care with which we attend to our property and our guests. Dialogue with them this year began with an inquiry regarding availability for a week long stay. Their reservation was made for two days, Saturday and Sunday evening. Less than a week before their arrival, they called to say they only “needed” Saturday evening. We do not accept a one night advanced reservation in season. They kept the two night reservation.

The check in process and “rules” have not changed since their last stay. Rules, if you call them rules, are simple, No Pets and No Smoking. Check in consists of all guests filling out the registration card. We then inform everyone where they can locate the ice and beverage machine, where and when we serve the continental breakfast. And we ask guest to assist us and our staff by shutting all windows when using the AC and to use the chambermaid sign when we can do our daily cleaning. The pool sign is standard government and public health department issue. It is required on all public pools in the country. We have never prevented any guests from eating and drinking at the pool side. For everyone’s safety, however, we do ask that no items made of glass be brought into the pool area.

We are a small property and both of us are very actively involved in the daily operations. We are involved and engage with all our guests as much or as little as they like. Our involvement with this older repeat guest was minimal. And no additional services were requested of us or our staff.

Our refusal to provide a one night reservation on a Saturday night in the high season and our inability to provide them with their “desired” room has been translated into a negative projection of their own feelings. How unfortunate. However, it is interesting to note that while they appreciate the exceptional care and attention we provide to our guests and our property, we are criticized here for the same.

We decided on a whim to take a long overdue weekend trip with no particular place in mind. We had not been to Cape Cod in many years, but when our children were young it was our yearly vacation spot in Orleans so while in the car decided to jaunt to Cape Cod once again. It held so many fond memories and we had always loved the Cape. With
no reservations, we happened upon a lovely motel we had passed many times in years gone by and decided to stop. After being stung many times with prior reservations, we now prefer to travel and look at the room before we reserve. The Eagle Wing was our second stop and our last. Someone was steering us in the right direction as this was just what we were looking for. A large, immaculately clean, cheerful room which was also smoke free and pet free! It looked brand new. Everything was perfect. The bedding was fresh, the pillowtop mattresses were the most comfortable beds ever, and daily maid service is provided. The TV provided many, many channels for viewing,
the small fridge was a welcome plus and the HOME BAKED muffins, juice
and coffee were just what we needed to get us started in the morning.
My husband truly enjoyed the excellent wireless service for his laptop. The picture you see on the Eagle Wing website is one that does not do justice to the establishment. Many times the pictures on websites look good until you actually get there. You can bank on the pictures on this website (they should add more of their beautiful motel). The outdoor pool is refreshing, quiet and has a privacy screen around the front which I didn't even notice until I was actually in the pool. After reading some reviews, I notice Mary, one of the owners, does watercolor painting and her works are in the room....beautiful paintings which my husband and I admired in our room, but were unaware at the time she paints these. Gerry and Mary, the proprietors, are extremely friendly and easy to talk with and take great pride in the Eagle Wing. The grounds are just lovely and the motel back is lined with great trees with beautiful birds and creates lovely breezes. Their home is on the premises so they are readily available to assure the comfort of their guests. Regarding the person who complained of Mary and Gerry's dogs and of a child being there, that was outrageous...this is their home and although they do not allow pets in their motel rooms, they certainly do have the right to have pets in their own home and most certainly do have the right to have their own family and friends (children included) to visit in their own home. Their 2 little dogs are adorable and can only be seen when they are taken for a walk on the property. We spent
2 days there and only saw them once and NEVER heard them bark. I cannot emphasize enough the cleanliness of their rooms and especially
the good sized, beautifully tiled bathrooms. We will always return to the Eagle Wing when just the two of us are traveling to Cape Cod. We love our grandchildren, but this was a much needed "alone" weekend
without the noise of children having fun and frolicking in a pool. If you are truly looking for quiet, peaceful, restful relaxation without distractions, the Eagle Wing should be your choice in Cape Cod. Again, this is an adult only establishment and children are not allowed in the rooms. The rooms are pet free and smoke free and great
for those with allergies to either. Their rules are strictly enforced
as they should be.

My husband and I have been staying at the Eagle Wing Motel for several years now, usually in the "shoulder season" time of June or Sept./Oct., and most recently for a week this June. Ironically, we discovered the Eagle Wing by chance -- we'd booked a cottage in a nearby town through a rental agency, and, finding the place absolutely uninhabitably filthy, decamped to the Eagle Wing. What a good decision it was! This motel is invariably spotlessly clean and quiet, as well as being very reasonable in price. We especially enjoy the fact that all of the rooms have back doors leading out onto a deck with table and chairs overlooking a leafy back yard with a wonderful chorus of birdsong. Both Mary and Gerry have always been friendly and helpful, providing information about the Cape, restaurants, etc. This has become "our place" to stay when we head to the Cape.

When we wanted a one-night stay for a wedding on Memorial Day weekend, most hotels/motels required a three-night package. Fortunately, the Eagle's Wing was able to provide us a Sunday night's stay (which we wanted) because some guests prior to us wanted a Friday/Saturday stay. I found this to be extremely accommodating on their part. We needed three rooms, two with king beds and one with two beds, and this also was accommodated. Although nothing fancy, the motel is extremely clean, and the management is very helpful. We would certainly make reservations there again if in the area.

For over 25 years I have been vacationing on one of America's true marvels -- Cape Cod. During that time lodging for me on the Cape has been everything from tents to motels. I have no idea how many times I have driven past the Eagle Wing Motel in Eastham over those years without ever realizing what a hidden treasure was right in front of my nose.

That all changed a number of years back when it was decided to give them a try. Gerry and Mary Orris had turned the place into a wonderful Adult accomodation without pricing their result out of the market. Since our first stay with them, we have considered no other motels on Cape Cod for our vacations. They are tops.

Not people to rest on their past improvements, they continue the fine-tuning with new bath fixtures, better ice machines, new Kingsized beds, closets etc.; all while being on-site and performing much of the work themselves. Their multiple talents through personal interests in art and music are shared with all who enter the well-kept grounds.

If you don't find it, just ask. These delightful folks will bend over backwards to guide any and all to the best restaurants, rainy day spots or beaches. The delicious muffins each morning with coffee, juice and fruit are served with smiles that will get your vacation days off to the perfect start. The lending library for those in search of reading materials improves with each passing season. They were more than worth the over 3,000 mile drive we endured from Arizona to reach them on our most recent trip!!

How many motels have you stayed in where the owners not only appear behind the front desk but more often than not greet each guest by their first name every day? This is truly one place where the staff and ownership "Go The Extra Mile." Give them a try. You'll be glad you did!

Two very satisfied repeat guests!
