Have been to this restaurant numerous times. Whenever we are on Martha's Vineyard we make sure we go to the Grill. They have a 2 for 1 for anything on the menu. In the summer they sometimes have a 3 course meal for reasonable prices especially for the Vineyard. Food is delicious (never had a mediocre or bad meal). Service is excellent. . Can't suggest a better place to dine.

Tried The Grill on Main last night with my wife. Got a same day reservation for 8:00 PM with no problem. Parked in back and realized that its really the restaurant attached to the Clarion Inn. That turns out to explain a number of things:
1) Outdoor seating set on a major road. Nice lighting for tables on a brick patio, but right on Main Street in a heavily trafficked area.
2) Uninspired decor - unobtrusive art work on light grey walls, soft lighting, tables spaced well apart, open kitchen in the corner - but somehow it doesn't come together.
3) Uninspired food - wild mushroom bisque that doesn't taste intensely of mushrooms, lobster turnover with excellent flaky pastry that doesn't taste intensely of lobster, wild salmon that must have been baked because it lacks flavor.
4) Very rich food - the mushroom bisque must have cream and then comes finished with crumbled Gorgonzola cheese, the lobster turnover floating in a plate of rich, but bland, white sauce (supposed to be shrimp-lemon), perfectly cooked filet steaks served with a rich mustard sauce and potatoes au-gratin, bland salmon served with a sour cream sauce...
5) Limited wine and beer list with 5-6 reds and whites by the glass and 2-3 times as many bottles.

What it doesn't predict is excellent service. From the rapid greeting and seating by the hostess to the very attentive service by our waitress, water filler & bus person, they put other island restaurants to shame with service.

The other nice surprise was price. There is a very reasonable (for MV) $38 three course prix fix menu, and they offered two entrees for the price of one on the a-la-cart menu. We felt like we got a deal ordering the wild-caught salmon and the filet steaks and sharing them.

If the simple, American-style preparations are to your taste, this is a very good deal. If you're into more unusual or exciting preparations, this won't do it for you. A matter of taste.

This weekend we have visited 4 restaurants including a couple on the top five list in Edgartown and one with gorgeous water view. We still feel strongly The Grill on Main is the best. We ordered lamb, duck, and chicken marsala on 2 consecutive nights because they were so succulent and delicious, incredibly priced at 2 for 1 for entrees. The service was outstanding, you could also see the chefs at work through the open kitchen. This is one restaurant we will keep visiting without hesitation.

Salads were good, meat was grey and lacking in flavor. Typical american food, but not really worth the prices or the visit

We had two very good meals at the Grill on Main, which is actually a part of the Clarion Inn. Entrees are two for one. I would definitely recommend the lamb chops. One member of our party ordered hers medium rare, but one was overcooked. The waitress apologized and returned with another one cooked precisely as ordered. They also offer a fixed price menu ($38. I believe) which consists of three courses.
