Owner description: The Martha's Vineyard Museum is privileged to be the steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The East Chop, Edgartown, and Gay Head lighthouses are not only historic reminders of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. Beyond their important functional role, these structures also offer visitors spectacular views of the breathtaking beauty of Vineyard Sound, the simple elegance of Edgartown Harbor & Chappaquiddick, and the majestic cliffs of Aquinnah. Major renovations completed in 2007, including installation of a staircase to the lantern room, allow the interior of the Edgartown Light to be open to visitors. A lighthouse keeper will be available and the doors will be open during designated hours. Parking is available, but limited, on North Water Street. The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) busses drop off on Church Street in Edgartown. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the lighthouse from this location.

“Edgartown lighthouse”

Another lighthouse open at this time of year, short walk from road. Volunteer guide very funny and informative. Been a million times but off season so you don't get into these often. Buy the attraction pass and get into other lighthouses on your trip. Not all open every day, ask. East chop was supposed to be open and we went and sign said 7p. At at Ocean View to wait, went back not open, rainy? So see them while they are manned.

“Beautiful location”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

This Lighthouse is particularly scenic because of the surrounding area. The hills above are fronted by the old whaling captain's mansions, and Edgartown Harbor, the opposite side faces the Chappaquiddick area. It is an unusually low-positioned Lighthouse, and one that has beautiful walking paths leading to a quaint stone-faced bridge that takes you directly there. I had googled a walking tour of Edgartown, which began at the Lighthouse and continued past the whaling captain's mansions into town. This was a perfect place to start, and gave everything else perspective. Take an hour or two and do the walking tour - but start here, it really is a pretty view.

“Nice view”

Great view of the city shore, just like many others along the island. Must see. Go by bike on a sunny day.

“Beautiful lighthouse and view”
Reviewed 2 July 2014 via mobile

We went here and it was a beautiful lighthouse. The surrounding view was wonderful and the walk to the lighthouse was nice but not really handicapped accessible. The tour guide was very knowledgable and friendly as well.

“Nice walk to the lighthouse”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

Walked to the lighthouse. My four year old enjoyed shell hunting in the sand around the lighthouse. We paid the money to climb up to the top. I liked the view from Aquinnah Lighthouse better, but it was a pretty view of Edgartown.
