“A gem of a museum”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2012

Lots of information about MV. Great activities for small children, very knowledgeable docents. This was my second visit to MV--wish I had done this tour on the first visit--it sets a context for many of the things that you see on the Vineyard.

“Martha's Vineyard”

Everything was great here. We arrived just before Memorial Day weekend so it was not very crowded and had a blast before all of the tourists arrived. Overall a great place to visit.

“MV Museum”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2012

Our last day at MV was during the heat wave. Our family had to check out of our hotel and we had the entire day to stay before meeting the ferry. The temperature was over 95F. We asked the hotel concierge service for recommendations for what we should do on the island while remaining cool. The concierge service called the museum and specifically asked if there was air conditioning.
The air turned out to be a small room unit that could not even keep the desk area cool. If you want to read about a few ships that sank, see a barn with a few carriages, see a small lighthouse on the lawn, and walk through a well kept older home, this is for you. They do have a few rooms for young children to dress up and participate in hands on activities. Be warned it gets unbearably hot and the air conditioner may be an antique.

“MV Museum/Historical Society”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2011

I have been traveling to the vineyard for a while now, and had never gone to the MV museum until this weekend. I went by myself on a mini-self guided tour of Edgartown first then went over to the historical society/museum. The lawn was well kept and had a few beautiful trees and such. There was also a lighthouse, carriages, boats, etc. on display before getting to the main building. Inside were various exhibits on each vineyard town, the civil war, etc. They even had a room for kids to color, try on civil war uniforms, and have a photo taken. Overall, I learned a lot and really enjoyed myself. Afternoon well spent!
