Charlotte Inn is the epitome of luxury and class. This was truly a beautiful and serene setting. We had room #2 and our friends had room #1. We each had our own private courtyard and then there was a common courtyard between us for joint gatherings. The staff is incredible and met our every need. The owners are delightful as are their two golden retrievers. I would definitely return.

Room Tip: I recommend rooms #1 and #2.

My husband and I have been guests at The Charlotte Inn for the past four nights and we have been enchanted with our stay. The Inn (a Relais and Chateaux property) and surrounding buildings are stunning, and you won't find more beautiful gardens anywhere. Our bedroom, with seating area, antique paintings and furniture, book collections and magazines, truly made us feel at home. Tea and lemonade with sweets are served in the afternoon at the Summer House. No cell phones allowed on property, except in your room, so we have been able to completely relax and unwind.

The island is beautiful and the location of the Inn at Edgartown is ideal but staying at an Inn like this makes it difficult to want to leave the property. "Behind the Times on Purpose" is the name of their book about the Inn, and a copy of the book is located in each room.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 7, with a very comfortable queen bed. The room has corner windows and is very quie...

Beautiful, quiet, elegant, the Charlotte Inn is a oasis of tranquility in busy Edgartown. Filled with Art and Antiques each room is individually decorated setting an atmosphere of refined living. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The two most memorable staffers were Nicky & Barkley an pair of Golden Retrievers that have the run of the house and welcome guest with wagging tails and invitations for a belly rub. There are a lot of plus points to this boutique hotel. On the minus side, it is very expensive, and maybe for some, the Edwardian decor would be a bit stuffy (I walked into the Green Dining room and expected to see Holmes and Watson discussing the latest intrigue from Dr Moriarty), but that is the essence if the hotel.
While the price keeps me from giving this hotel a 5 star rating ($40 for 2 wines+tip on the porch in the afternoon or $45 for breakfast for two as examples) I did enjoy the high thread count sheets, down pillows, and Bose radio in my room.

This is not a hotel for young family, no children under 14, it is not a place to take work with you...no cell phones or computing devices in the public areas,,,,it is a place to relax, unwind, and enjoy the grandeur and beauty of the environment, While just a short walk to the heart of the somewhat touristy town center...The Charlotte Inn is the place to inhale and smell the roses.

We spend three nights in room 17 which was at the highest end of the non-suite accommodations. The room felt like a beautifully decorated guest room in somebody's home. The walls are covered with art and the rooms are filled with antiques and collectibles. The main house with public rooms and all the guest rooms are chock full of beautiful and interesting antiques from the proprietors multiple trips to England and New York. The room also had current upscale magazines for every taste which was much appreciated. There was a quiet patio near our room so it was easy to just chill with a newspaper or magazine and bottle of wine.

The bath and bed linens were 5-star quality and the bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable (I'm extremely picky). The service was beyond compare. All of the employees were at our beck and call and very gracious. The rooms were cleaned promptly (by young girls in formal French maid uniforms) and the beds were always turned down in the evening. We got a kick out of the young boys (seemed like 13-15 years old) who greeted us at the door in their white shirts and ties and always happy to offer ideas of what to do or where to eat.

The Inn is rather formal and may feel stuffy for some. This is not the place to party or travel with a large group.. If you seek modern amenities or the warm and fuzzies this is not for you either. If you are looking for a beautiful, quiet, civilized, tasteful and comfortable place to stay on a quiet street in the middle of town, this is it. I have read other people's reviews saying they were not treated well because they were younger or minorities. I cannot speak to this because the four of us were all in our 40s and Caucasian, but it is distressing to imagine they would treat others poorly. We didn't witness any of this.

Afternoons they serve ice tea, lemonade and snacks on the patio. Unfortunately we could only make this once but it was delightful.

The one thing the Inn lacked in my opinion was games. There were public rooms for sitting and having a drink or reading the paper, but it would have been nice to have backgammon or Scrabble. All they had was a deck of cards.

I almost forgot the best part which was the two golden retrievers - Barkley and Nicky. One was always inside the foyer and the other was outside (they take turns). If you are an animal lover and don't mind stepping over a sleepy dog, you'll appreciate their presence.

All of this comes at a hefty price. If money is no object, or you don’t mind splurging, do give the Charlotte Inn a try. On the off season prices go down considerably so it might be a good time to try if you want the experience.

Room Tip: Rooms 17 was great, but this Inn is not handicap accessible so if you can't climb stairs this ma...

My husband and I stayed here for two nights; this place was stunning and meticulously maintained. The service was truly excellent and the place is simply impeccable. From the moment you pull up out in the front, you are greeted by very elegant young men that carry your belongings inside. The place is very intimate and quiet. The decor is unbelievable, down to every detail, a careful and thoughtful array of beautiful antiques all carefully positioned, you feel as though you are living in the Edwardian Era.
The room we stayed in (7) was peaceful perfectly arranged and clean. The bed was beautiful and plush, the bathroom was spotless (as was everything else), and all very comfortable. The cleaning and turn-down service couldn't have been any better, and the staff, specifically the young lady at front desk, the cleaning crew and the young porters (bellboys)) were very friendly and helpful the entire time.
We didn't get a chance to eat in the Terrace but heard it is amazing, the setting is very pretty. We stayed in the main building but had a chance to ram around a little and the gardens and adjacent buildings are truly stunning.
The location is perfect, within a 2 second walking distance to Main Street.
The one thing to note is that they do not allow cell phone use inside (common areas), which I understand keeps the peace for everyone. Would like to note that although this was inconvenient at times (my husband was there for a conference) they did help us if we needed to print something and fax something (which we had to upon arrival) and they did help out in providing my husband accommodation to be able to use his laptop when we had already checked out of the room. They also were nice in keeping our belongings for the afternoon post-checkout. So all in all they were helpful and accommodating.

Not a place to bring children or to stay if you are a large group or loud people, but definitely worth the visit. It is a little pricey and I we would have liked if they provided complimentary breakfast (otherwise I would have given 5 stars), but other than that we would highly recommend a visit to the Charlotte Inn.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 7: it was quiet, although near the stairs. Plush bed, nice bathroom, sitting area...

If you want pure charm, great attention to details, tremendous gardens and ambience that sails, this is a great choice. The Inn is a Relais and Chateaux property and deserving of the franchise. The service is good, but you may have to ask for somethings rather than it being offered. The location is ideal, right in the middle of restaurants, shopping, close to the bus terminal, but tucked into it's own niche so that there is no noise.

The restaurant is OK. The service was great, the wine selecton good and the food was just OK.

All in it is most likely the best Inn on the Island(s), and even counting Nantucket.

We have recently returned from our stay at The Charlotte Inn to celebrate our twentieth wedding anniversary. We have been here a few times in the last twenty years. If we didn't live so far away, it would have been more often.

It is truly a remarkable place. We have traveled the world and always stay in the best places. There is no place like this.

Physically, it is a stunning place with an exceptional level of care, design and maintenance. Each furniture piece and every accessory is an antique and is chosen for it's beauty, all chosen to add to the ambiance of another time.

When we are there, I feel as if we were staying in someone's home. Paula and Gerry are the most gracious hosts you will ever have. They are devoted to your comfort and care.

It is truly a unique a very special place not to be missed..

Room Tip: We have stayed in the main house in a single which was lovely. We have stayed in the Coach House and...
