“A magical place”

We would stay at the Harbor View again in a second. I spend hours Tripadvisor-ing,Yelp-ing, etc before I eat or stay anywhere (in other words, I'm kind of picky). We went here with our three sons (8,10,12) for three nights over Columbus Day weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. The hotel has a beautiful location -- you feel as if you are someplace very far away from the hustle and bustle, yet you are steps to downtown Edgartown, the Chappy Ferry, bike trails, and more. We stayed in a Mayhew room, which was bright and updated and CLEAN. The staff was, without exception, friendly and helpful. The environmentalist in me also appreciated that they provide free reusable water bottles in your room and "hydration stations" throughout the hotel, versus $8 bottles of Evian water (in fact, there was no minibar at all). We also got "takeout" from Henry's for lunch one day and sat and ate it on the huge wrapping porch looking out at the beach and the ocean and the lighthouse. Not only was it a lovely way to eat, it was also the best turkey sandwich I have had in my life! Highly recommend!

We had room service several times and the trays were never picked up. Housekeeping moved the trays outside since there were 2 days of trays. Even after calling a couple times to have them removed, they were left and skunks were fighting over the trays all night. The food was mediocre and the service was terrible

We were surprised to be able to make reservations on short notice for Friday night of the Columbus Day weekend. The reservation agent was friendly and helpful. We arrived early and were pleased that our room was ready. Check in was pleasant and quick.

The hotel is situated a short walk from the center of town overlooking the harbor and lighthouse. The location is both pretty and convenient. We were greeted warmly and efficiently. Our room was clean, adequately sized, and comfortable. There were extra towels in the bathroom and a bathrobe. Noise insulation was the only negative -- conversations in the hallway sounded like they were in the room and noise from outside, where our room overlooked the entry to the hotel, was significant.

I strongly recommend the informal dining at Henry's. We each ordered two small plates and a desert. I had a cucumber gazpacho with almond slivers -- very unusual and tasty -- and grilled artichokes -- nicely done with grilled garlic cloves and a tasty sauce. My dessert, a chocolate savarin with peanut caramel sauce and a malted ice cream, was to die for. My wife enjoyed her meal as well.

we enjoyed three great days at the Harbour view which we found to be charming, with a gorgeous view over the ocean and beautiful rooms and gardens. The pool is also very nice and full of sun loungers and space. We enjoyed fantastic breakfasts with gentle and professional ladies serving us with a smile (I remember a romanian pretty girl and a southamerican nice lady) and doing all their best to cater the highest level of service. One dinner we had there, we ate very well with great attentive service. The front office girls are good but a bit coldish and distracted while all the bell boys were good and funny, and gentle. It is a place to recommend to families and Edgartown although so expensive it is very charming and elegant with a lot of beautiful people and great shopping

We stayed in this hotel 3 years ago and coincidentally we were given the same suite (201).
Imagine our excitement knowing that since we were last here they had spent millions of dollars on a major refurbishment. In we go, the room is amazing, fabulous in every way...however the bathroom had clearly not received the same attention, just as we remembered, very basic which is so disappointing for such a prestigious room. They also appear to have a generator in the bathroom, which for a light sleeper, like me, is not to good either, also not nearly enough hanging space. Last grumble, the bar, what a lost opportunity to make a much bigger bar area, still very cramped...all being said, probably still the best hotel on the island.

It was our 10th wedding anniversary, and the trip was perfect. We had a lovely room with porch and postcard-quality views of Edgartown lighthouse. The room itself was huge and comfy and everything worked. We used the fridge so didn't have to eat out for breakfast (our only concession to economy on this trip). The pool was heated but not overheated for sunny days in mid-September. The hotel was quite quiet at night and I slept incredibly well (an accomplishment for me). The front porch is a treasure both for its own ambience, its view of the lighthouse, and for people watching too.

We love going to Martha's Vineyard because it's a world where everyone is always in a good mood. This trip was the best we've had, and Harbor View was a main reason.

My family and I stayed at the Harbor View hotel this past June. I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly and welcoming the staff were. I had brought my laptop and Wifi was not working for some reason, and right away they sent someone up to our room to get my laptop connected. We had a large room in the main building (w/ two queen beds), with an extra large patio, overlooking the pool. We basically chose this hotel because it seemed to be the only hotel on the island that was actually on the water (maybe there's others?). Beautiful location and friendly service made our stay.
