“We stayed a week this time and plan on returning as often as possible.”
Reviewed 29 June 2011

This was our first stay and we found the B&B absolutely DELIGHTFUL. Bill and Pat O'Connell are wonderful hosts. Their attention to the smallest detail made our stay very comfortable and enjoyable. We stayed a week this time and plan on returning as often as possible. Breakfasts were tasty and more than satisfying. One of us has diet restrictions and Bill and Pat graciously accommodated those restrictions. Our bed was so large and comfortable, that we probably slept better at Palmer House than at home. The interior common areas are quite comfortable and cheery. The herb garden was a wonderful site to have our evening drinks and wind down at the end of the day. A wonderful place to stay

Dear maskowgd, Thanks for your outstanding review. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and we are happy that we were able to accommodate your dietary restrictions. Over the years we have developed a number of alternate recipes that we can prepare for our guests with special diets. We hope to see you again soon. Always, Bill & Pat

My boyfriend and I had found the Palmer House online but didn't call until the day of to get a room. We wouldn't be arriving until almost midnight, but it wasn't a problem- they gave us a code to get in and left everything set for us, including a personalized note with the next day's forecast, fresh bottles of water, and other room amenities. The rooms are very clean, well-appointed, and just so cozy. The whole house made you feel as if you were just visiting a relative out of town.

The breakfast the next day was delicious- stuffed crepes- and the table service was a very pleasant surprise. Pat came to greet us at our table and made us feel right at home. We would recommend to anyone looking for a B&B in the area and will definitely be back ourselves!

Dear kit1 16, Your review is wonderful! Thank you for taking the time to write such a nice note. One of the reasons that I enjoy the shoulder seasons at the Palmer House, is that we have time to get to know our guests. Chatting at breakfast is one of Pat's favorite parts of innkeeping. Truly tours, Bill & Pat

We found the Palmer House Inn Bed & Breakfast online. And what a lucky find! Pat & Bill have created a real gem - lovely hospitality, yummy breakfasts, and a kind of relaxed old world charm elegance. Our room was just beautiful, and comfortable - We were very Happy there.

Dear smplunket..., Thank you for the great review. Your use of the term "relaxed elegance" means that we have hit our target. Our goal is to be available to our guests without smothering them. There is a delicate balance. We are appreciative of the good words. Sincerely, Bill & Pat

The Palmer House was simply an amazing place to stay for a weekend getaway.

Let me start by saying the pictures of the bedrooms on the website did not spark my interest, but I was finding many places sold out over the holiday weekend, and the Palmer House still had rooms and a price that was appropriate. The price fell in line with many other nice looking B&Bs, but was also less than others in the area which didn't seem to offer anything more. OK, so you'll see in the website photos that the bedroom decor is very period with lots of ornate wallpaper, furniture, and decorations. In the pictures they look very busy and I can see how someone may think of their grandmothers house that hasn't been updated in 60 years. But once inside this is far from what we found. First, the place is immaculate. I mean IMMACULATE. The upkeep on this building is first rate and because of this the decor works. It may not be what you would do, but you are getting away from home so experience something different. The bed was fantastic with soft linens. Also of note, the floors and the bed didn't have squeaks and it's a solid place. The bathroom in the room was small but perfectly fine and the water pressure was great. There was an iron and hair dryer in the room, plus wine glasses. My wife and I bought a bottle of wine and sat on the front porch after going out to dinner and before going downtown. There is a small TV in the room but really you're not there to use it.
The attention to detail and cleanliness was amazing. We returned from dinner to find the bed turned down with two Lindt chocolates. They also tidied up the bath towels and neatly folded the end of the toilet paper roll with a stamped P on the end - that is some attention to detail!

The location is excellent. First it is 20 seconds off the main road coming into Falmouth. It is only about a 3-5 minute walk into downtown Falmouth, although some may consider it actually in downtown depending on your point of view. We didn't experience any noise issues at night and stayed in a 2nd floor front room. On the opposite side, it is a 1 minute ride to the Falmouth Bike Trail which is now 10 miles long. You enter the trail about 4 miles from the southern tip in woods Hole and will take you along the beach. They have bikes to use on the property, but if you want something different a popular bike store that rents is only about 3 doors down.

The parking for the inn is in the rear down their nice graveled drive and surrounded by trees and shrubs. Very nice feel with a welcoming entrance door. They use a keypad knob which is nice for security and gives you 24 hour access without fuss. When we checked in at 3:00 there were cookies and beverages out on the table in the parlor. The included breakfast the next morning was very good.

All in all it was a great place to stay in Falmouth. If the ornate wallpapered period look from the web pictures isn't normally your cup of tea, I'd say give this place a try anyway and you'll be surprised.

Dear teterrider, Many thanks for your very complete review. We pride ourselves in our house keeping. Every room is cleaned and inspected before each check-in. We will not say that we are perfect but perfection is our goal. As for the tv's, we are in the process of up dating them and hopefully the installation will be completed by by the middle of October. Truly yours, Bill & Pat

Our first time in the area, and we could not have selected a better base from which to explore. The hotel was "oldy worldy", the room took you back in time, yet it had all the necessary, the breakfasts were wonderful and different and set you up for the days adventures. The hosts Bill & Pat were very caring for any of our needs.
The area had so much history we were not able to fit it all in, but we did see the local town with it's quaint shops. No large department stores here.
We did see the whales though, a wonderful experience.
We will be back Terry & Julie Leicestershire UK

Dear Terry0214, Thank you for taking the time to write such a good review. We are glad that you enjoyed our inn and the whale watch boat. Whale watching is one of the most popular day trips of guests while staying at the Palmer House. We have been innkeepers for seven years and we have never had a guest return from a whale watch cruse who said that he/she was disappointed. Whales are magnificent animals. Sincerely, Bill & Pat

Dear deso_boy, Your review is greatly appreciated. You are correct, Falmouth does have excellent dining and drinking. One of the best thing about our location is that in less than 10 minutes from the Palmer House one can walk to six excellent restaurants. There is no need for a designated driver. The sidewalk is lighted and safe. Fondly, Bill and Pat

Wonderful, quiet, Victorian Inn conveniently located to center of Falmouth and ferries. Great breakfast, beautifful property, super innkeepers. Thg innkeepers are a wealth of information and the Inn is a great place to relax and unwind. It's open all year and has both heat and AC, somewhat unusual on the Cape and Islands.

Dear luvzwords, Many thanks for your review of your Palmer House visit. It makes us feel good when you say that we are a wealth of information. When we purchased the inn seven years ago. We were prepared to do the cooking, housekeeping, purchasing, designing and maintenance. However, when we discovered that we were going to be the inn's concierge service, we took a deep breath and started learning about the Cape and islands. All of that cramming has payed off. Fondly, Bill & Pat
