Lots of cool photgraphs and egytian artifacts to see. There is a nice transcription tool for writing words on paper with egytian alphabet and real mummified bodies as well as step by step description of how bodies are mummified. I didn't care for the video displays..but some people might be. Glad I went. Worth it if you are in the area. Special deals for AAA members.

It had been many many years since I had visited the Fitchburg art museum. The exhibits were beautiful. Varying collection of different time periods included from Ancient Greece, early Roman and Ming Dynasty Chinese When I visited it was spring and the flower exhibit was scheduled. I was lucky enough to win a beautiful hand made quilt the day I visited. Will be sure to return

What an amazing small town museum. New exhibit called Still Life Lives mixes traditional still life from museums collection with still life of contemporary NE artist. A gorgeous exhibit that shouldn't be missed. New curator and director are pumping new life into this museum. The Egyptian exhibit in the lower level is really well done and great interactive exhibits. Also, very impressed by the photography collection.

After a long standing director recently left, the museum has really had some new life brought into it. There is a very solid collection of all types of art highlighted by their top notch photography collection. The museum has an amazing hands on and interactive educational ancient Egypt exhibition great for kids and adults alike. The museum also has a great rotating exhibition space exclusively dedicated to New England contemporary artists. This is one the only museums showcasing current local artists in a significant way. This place is really special and worth visiting.

A trip west on Route 2 from Boston has an unappreciated attraction in the city of Fitchburg about 15 min. North of the Rte. 2 exit. This musem opened in about 1930 and has a new wing with an expanded collection of ancient Egyptian history plus Greek, Roman, Oriental, African and Mesoamerican art in well laid out galleries. The heart of the collection that drew us to visit is a world-class photography collection covering from the late 1800s to mid 20th century masterpieces. There is an ongoing new regional arts and crafts exhibit as well. We will come back with grandchildren who will enjoy the instructive and interactive Egyptian section, which is more informative than the big displays in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
