A real fishing village with History, with a Capital H -- so many interesting corners to scout out.... Stand behind the fisherman who steers the town towards the Atlantic, at the Fishermen's Memorial Monument, and imagine all "They that go down to the sea in ships" directly in front of you. Enjoy a meal at one of the good restos right on Main Street, such as Sugar Magnolia's or The Franklin Cafe, [stay tuned for upcoming reviews!] Grab a homemade cannoli at Cafe Sicilia. Take a drive out and stroll around the art colony of Rocky Neck. And don't forget to check out the Cape Ann Community Cinema for offbeat screenings -- you get to be a real couch potato, seated on an assortment of comfy couches while partaking of a good cuppa tea, or other unusual offerings. Recently saw "Birders" there -- a wonderful movie used as a fundraiser for the local non-profit Kestrel Educational Adventures. We were delighted in the low-key ambience of the cinema as much as the off the wall conversation with the locals.

This is a low-key, down-scale, town (as compared to Rockport, for example.) It's a very pleasant place to stroll around window shopping, checking out the restaurants, and seeing a working fishing port in action.

We have friends that visit this area every year. Since we only visited here for a day trip for a Whale watch and thought it was a cute little town to come back to visit, it seemed like the perfect time. It was very hot so the beach at Good Harbor was our first stop, water was too cold to stay in for very long. They were have their annual "Side walk sale" , sorry to say they close it by 6 , they may want to re think that for next year, with the beach full, after dinner would have been a perfect time to shop. We did find some music at night in the park, such a nice and peaceful place. Like time stands still there. People seem nicer, drivers let you out.....how we should all behave all the time!

We happened to stumble into the center of town after dining at the Causeway Restaurant by accident. As we headed into town, we noticed traffic building up and ended up getting stuck in a very bad traffic due to fireworks that were set to go off at 9PM. We waited in traffic for about an hour, however, it gave us the opportunity to look around at the shops, restaurants and local pubs. We enjoyed the people watching, harbor views and what the center of Gloucester offers. The traffic was unexpected, but seeing the center of town and the ride along the harbor area was terrific. We decided to head back the next day and walk around the center and grabbed a quick bite to eat at Latitude 43, which was really good. Overall, we enjoyed the center and what it had to offer. Plenty of parking at the municipal lots next to the major restaurants so don't be terribly concerned.
