“The Best New England ideas collected in one Place”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

Sleeper took bits and chunks on New England homes, taverns, furniture, manufactured articles and wove them into a thematic masterpiece called Beauport, his home, which grew to a size of 26 rooms before he was finished. Situated on the water, from the terrace you can see Gloucester and looking to the left (West) from the terrace you can see the outline of Boston. Sleeper was the first recognized professional interior decorator, a major work was the DuPont home at Winterthur. It is an amazing place and most definitely worth a visit if you are anywhere near the area. A great day trip from Boston would be to travel to Gloucester to see Beauport which opens At 10 Am and the head over to Rockport for a lobster on Bearskin Neck. Beauport is not for littlest ones or for the severely. Handicapped.

“Fascinating House in a Beautiful Setting”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

Varied and unusual interiors in the home of an eccentric and prolific collector. The waterfront setting is gorgeous, and it's a wonderful place to visit on a fair day and enjoy the recently restored gardens. Look out for special "Nooks and Crannies" tours offered by Historic New England which allow access to rooms not usually included in the general tour.

“Eastern Point one-of-a-kind experience. This can't be skipped.”
Reviewed 24 February 2013

This is a must see when in Eastern Point. Mr. Sleepers unique talent, taste, and ingenuity are magnificantly showcased in his own home. Everyone who tours this house returns home with grandiose redecorating plans in mind.

“Interesting Decor and Tour”
Reviewed 13 January 2013

We toured this place in early fall. Our tour guide was very interesting and told you many details about the life of the owner. The rooms had different themes, some from the Elizabethan period. The owner collected bottles and some of the themes were to show off his collections. He took some of the wood out of homes that were to be demolished. I wish that they would have let you take non flash pictures of the inside though. It is sometimes hard to remember what you saw without the pictures. The only thing I can think of is that they want to sell their postcards. The grounds were nice as well, but not as nice as inside. In one of the rooms, he had a secret passageway so that he could surprise his guests.

“Fascinating historical house”
Reviewed 6 January 2013

My wife and I love to visit historic houses. This is a very unique house as the original owner, Mr. Sleeper, built rooms to showcase his interior design capabilities for his clients. The tour was excellent and lasts about an hour. It is right on the water on Eastern Point. It is one of the most unusual houses we have ever been in and is a must for anyone interested in turn of the century architecture. Mr. Sleeper was a friend of Isabella Stewart Gardner and also the first Dupont who built Wintertur. So they traded a lot of ideas. Mr. Sleeper was self trained in interior design and architecture.
