“Pet Hotel, Humans Stay at Your Own Risk.”
Reviewed 11 July 2013

My husband and I stayed here in July 2013, and we had the most terrible experience. We hardly slept given that it was hot, and this hotel has no AC, the room was filthy, and smelled like a wet dog. This hotel has not been updated since the 1960's, and needs it badly. The room photos they show on the internet look outdated, yet they look clean, however this place is very run down, and needs some major bringing into the 20th century. The carpets in the rooms were wet, stained, and dirty. I'm talking saturated from years of pet puke, poop, and pee in them. If you want a hotel room that is a little better than staying in a dog kennel then stay here. This seems to be popular for pet owners who like to bring their dogs with them on vacation, however the rooms cater mored to the pets, not the people. It was awful, we only stayed one night, checked out the next morning and booked a room at a much nicer establishment for the same price.

Cape Ann Motor Inn in Gloucester has been our family destination for 25 years. Every room has a balcony overlooking the water. The staff is pleasant and helpful. Continental breakfast is provided free of charge. The beach is clean and a mile long for a great walk. Now that the kids are grown I come with friends and still have a great time.

Fondly,
Jeannine Richard

My husband and I wanted a night away and took a ride to Gloucester. This motor inn was within our budget and on the ocean. The room was very tiny. It was clean as was the bathroom. For the price, it was okay. I think they could take it out of the 1960's though. But perhaps because business is good and it is directly on the ocean they see no need to. But they should reinvest something into the place.

This place is in a great location, and the price is lower than most in the area. Upon check-in on Saturday night, the guy at the desk was very friendly and pleasant to deal with. True, it's a bit older, but it was neat, clean, a decent price, and you can bring your furry friend. For that, we were willing to put up with a bit more noise (from the adjoining rooms) than you might get in other places.

Biggest drawback - the continental breakfast was not really a continental breakfast at all, actually 2 or 3 different choices of small, prepackaged danishes and a glass of OJ. However, it got us started in the morning.

We stayed there last weekend and spent the night watching the snowstorm through our balcony window. In the morning we went walking along the snow encrusted beach. They worked very hard to clear the snow in the morning both from the walkways and the parking lot. No mean feat considering the size of the place and number of employees!

We're thinking about a return trip later this year when it warms up a bit.

This motel could use a little work, but it still has some charm. They try hard and every year at least one part of our family stays there. My family and I usually rent a house on the seawall and 1 or 2 family's that are related to us stay here. The location is great, no one can argue with that, like I said, the motel itself could use some work, but with some scrubs, some coats of paint and some new planks of wood could really bump up the business and a bunch of people would come. This motel has a lot of potential and could be a modern oasis. Best of luck to the motel! :)

I stayed here with a birdwatching group for a January weekend. The rooms are older, but very clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The view is the best! The beach with views of twin lighthouses from every room. A wonderful bargin!

Stayed on 3rd floor (no elevators) but not that bad of a walk for the payoff, the views! Room and bed was comfortable. Went to register and was told "I am on the phone" which I actually could appreciate, was not particularly rude. It is true as previously indicated by another review the sliding doors are on a balcony that runs the entire length of the motel so privacy "might" be an issue. We wanted to leave the sliding doors slightly open to enjoy the sound of the surf and found there was a "pole" you could insert so that sliding door could not be fully opened. Was relaxing and enjoyable stay. Cannot beat it for the price, can see why they have been in business for so long.

Room Tip: Stairs to upper floors come up the middle of the building so if you want to avoid people walking pas...
