Reviewed 19 August 2013

Our family just stayed at the Colonial Inn in Gloucester and we really enjoyed our time there. This Inn is so charming, has lots of character , is located in a beautiful setting, and is run by a gracious family. Mike and Tommy are so accommodating and will make you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. This is one Inn you will not want to miss. We look forward to our next visit!

Found it by good fortune. Spoke with Tom and after a couple of minutes of conversation I felt like we'd known each other for years. Everything about the house is authentic B&B and Tom goes out of his way to make you feel like while you're there it's as much yours as it is his. Have never slept on a more comfortable bed away from home-ever. When you do go out access to everywhere is easy, walking or driving. The newly renovated porch is a great place to relax after a day of wherever you've been. We're going back to Gloucester in a couple months and can't wait to have the Colonial Inn as home base again.

Room Tip: Check with the staff for a room suggestion, they can guide you to a great choice.

The staff at the Colonial Inn were very friendly and accommodating to all our requests and even gave us a discount due to a leaky toilet. They gave us tips on dining and sightseeing, which were quite good. While the view was lovely from the porch, the rooms were average, yet comfortable overall. If you are looking for an upscale B&B, this is not it, but for local advice and helpfulness, it was good. Needs some updating overall, yet clean and an easy location for sightseeing.

The Colonial Inn is the perfect casual B&B for your seaside retreat offering clean attractive rooms, comfortable beds, plenty of towels, mini-fridge, wifi and coffee, toast, muffins and yogurt to begin your day. Innkeepers; Barbara, Tom and Mike are great …always unfailingly gracious and friendly. We have been visiting the Colonial for many years and it is like visiting family. You can relax on the spacious porch and enjoy the ocean view or take a short walk to Niles Beach. Also, within walking distance, you'll find restaurants, galleries and shops. If your a first time visitor to Gloucester, there is much to see and do. Walkers or runners, just walk across the street and start in either direction for fabulous ocean views. We are anxious to return…Tom, Mike, see you in a few {:>)

The Colonial Inn, is a laid back easy going place to stay on Cape Ann.You can walk almost anywhere in Gloucester from here and it's a short drive to any of the other Towns on the Cape. The Inn is clean friendly and convenient, with a precious commodity, parking!
An easy walk to the beach, restaurants, Rocky Neck artists colony and the harbor.
The Inn Keepers are the original owners, and love the town.

My wife and I headed up from Boston for a necessary but all-to-brief two-day getaway. We chose the Colonial Inn because it received many positive reviews here, was a simple place (we're not luxury types), and is in a nice location close, but not too close, to downtown Gloucester. This was a great choice on our part. The inn is old but very clean and well-maintained, with lots of character. Morning coffee or a cold drink at the end of the day while sitting on the deck overlooking the harbor was a joy. The owner, Tom, was friendly, open, full of information, and made us feel right at home. Breakfast was simple - coffee, yogurt, muffins, toast - but again, that is our style. We spent one full day just walking and exploring the beaches, pond, and breakwater on Rocky Neck, with only a half-day spent downtown, and discovered a Gloucester we didn't really know existed. If you are looking for luxury accommodations, probably this place is not for you, but we'll definitely be back when we next need to recharge our batteries.

My husband and I visited the Colonial Inn of Gloucester from Wyoming where B&Bs are uncommon. This was our second experience at a B&B and we enjoyed this place. Beautiful location right by water at Cape Ann, lovely grounds. The trees and honeysuckle bushes smelled amazing! The room was simple but very clean and fresh with a beautiful view of the water. Our room had a bathroom attached which was very convenient. The sheets and linens smelled amazing very clean and fresh like they were dried on a line outside by the sea air! We slept better than ever before and woke up to delicious coffee and store bought baked goods which for the price were surprised by. We were spoiled last time we stayed at an inn in South Dakota because they made an amazing breakfast for us the next day. Overall a very pleasant stay, the owner Tom was very friendly and conversational and made us feel quite welcome and comfortable.
