We stayed at the Atlantis on our recent vacation to Massachusetts, and it was wonderful. When we drove up to the hotel, we were amazed at the wonderful ocean view from our room. It was very relaxing to sit out on the balcony and just watch the waves roll in. It was also in a great location if you like to jog or walk in the afternoons. The rooms were clean, and the staff was very courteous. I hope we have an opportunity to visit again.

Room Tip: You will want to ask for a room on the second floor with a balcony looking out over the ocean. It...

We spent two nights at the Atlantis Oceanfront Inn on our trip through New England. We were on the 1st floor (not to be confused with the Garden Level), which had a balcony on the front toward the wonderful coast and you entered from the back with no stairs. The hotel is older but must have been recently updated, the décor was new and clean and the room itself was large. The bathroom was smaller than we were used to but had a nice dressing area outside the bath room with a mirror and counter top. The room was also air conditioned which surprised me since I have seen other comments that they were not, this may have been a new addition during an update. The staff was friendly and helpful. They had nice warm cookies available in the office each evening and there was an attached restaurant which was open JUST for breakfast. We ate there both mornings and had wonderful food with an excellent ocean view. It was a very nice way to start the day. There is a 2 lane road directly between the hotel and the ocean with some traffic, but for us it didn't detract from the lovely ocean view that we had. We even got up early one morning to watch the sunrise. It was exceptional!! We even got to watch some lobster boats at work. If you are looking for a sandy beach directly across from your hotel this isn't the place for you, but if you want a wonderful view of a rocky/rugged coast line this is your place. They also have a heated pool, which looked very nice but we didn't have time to use it. There is a sandy beach which you can drive to just down the road and you can get discount vouchers from the office for a reduced parking fee at the beach.
If I am ever up that way again I will definitely stay at the Atlantis Oceanfront Inn again.

Room Tip: Make sure you get 1st floor or higher for the ocean view. The garden rooms are below ground level a...

The Atlantis is a wonderful, wonderful hotel! All rooms have a glorious view of the ocean. Though furnished simply, ours was spotlessly clean, and remodeled to modern-day standards (the hotel was built in 1925). While our room was not huge, it was very comfortable, with plenty of space. We appreciated having a table and two chairs, as well as the refrigerator and microwave. There were also some nice innovations, such as a long, slatted, wooden rack near the door which gave us plenty of room for our suitcases and also worked as a drying rack for bathing suits. There also was a large vanity area outside the bathroom, which gave us additional space. Best of all was the lovely patio (or balcony on upper floors) outside our room! The view was breathtaking and we enjoyed eating breakfast there each morning, watching the lobster boats in the bay. There also is a beautiful pool, which unfortunately we did not have enough time to use. The grounds are lovely and the staff are super friendly and helpful. The hotel was very quiet, even when we were sitting on our patio. Our biggest regret is that we only stayed there two nights. Gloucester and Cape Ann are also just terrific places to visit, with so much to do. We will definitely go back. This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in!

Room Tip: I don't think there are any bad rooms here!

This is the second time staying at this hotel. The view is spectacular and my special request was honored, which was sunshine. It's a little pricier than what I am used to paying but this was a special occasion so worth it. The restaurant wasn't to my liking but I think it was how New Englanders prepare the food. We like to try different foods and we tried the fish cakes. Neither of cared for them but that doesn't reflect badly on the restaurant at all. The staff was very pleasant just like I remember from last year. If in the area, I would recommend staying for the view alone.

Room Tip: All rooms have a spectacular view. Even on the bottom level so don't be afraid to book these roo...

We enjoyed our stay here! The hotel was very clean and gave us a beautiful ocean view. The people at the front desk were very friendly and helpful in suggesting places for dinner. While some people might think the hotel could use some updates in their decor, we appreciated its quaintness and oceanfront atmosphere. We made sure we ate at the attached restaurant for a wonderfully delicious breakfast. This is a place we'd love to visit again!

So you understand the review, there's a small story behind it. We had come into Gloucester the day before and were not very happy with the accommodations of a DIFFERENT property that was recommended to us by my brother. I crawled all over the internet looking for a change of venue and after a frustrating night's sleep at the former place, my wife and I said, 'we're outta here,' and called the Atlantis Oceanfront Inn to see what their availability was. I spoke with Jane on the phone and she was so accommodating that she told us to come right over and check out the room availability to see if it was to our liking. We couldn't drive the 2 miles fast enough, and once we stepped into the room, we knew we were in the right place. We literally booked the room for the remainder of our stay before we even checked out of the other place! Jane was so nice about our situation that she gave the keys right away and told us that the room was now ours and we could just come right back after we checked out of the other place. By 9:30am, we were already packed up, moved, unpacked at the Atlantis Oceanfront Inn, and were enjoying an Oceanfront breakfast in their wonderful (and nice sized) restaurant, on property. They menu had the basics, and also some creative dishes - all very well prepared. The pool was large and heated, which helped as the ocean breeze could make your skin a little chilly when swimming. Although every room has an ocean view, we just felt like we had our own little place and gorgeous view of the ocean (with the beautiful weekend weather). My wife and I decided, after just our first night there with our daughter, that we would make a yearly tradition of coming back to Gloucester and staying at the Atlantis Oceanfront Inn. Everything from the restaurant, to the rooms, and even the bathrooms were fresh and clean with up to date amenities like wi-fi and more. The staff was wonderfully friendly, Jane was a lifesaver, and all of the waitstaff in the restaurant were so pleasant, trust me (since I can't trust my brother's recommendations ;) ) you will love your stay at the Atlantis Oceanfront Inn.

Room Tip: I don't think there is a bad room in the Inn...all rooms face a beautifully manicured lawn and t...

We stayed two nights (June 3 & 4). It was just right for us. The staff was friendly and helpful. We loved being right on the rocky coast and being able to open the windows to hear the sea at night. The beds were comfortable and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony to read and take in the sea air. Their breakfasts are excellent. Good Harbor beach is within walking distance. We would be happy to return the next time we visit New England.
