Description: The Gloucester House restaurant is renowned for its local lobster dishes and for the freshest North Atlantic seafood, prepared to perfection. Having been among the first to popularize fried calamari, our specialties range from award-winning clam chowder to homemade bread and cornbread, from Dottie's bourbon cake to Lily's wine list, and from Sambuca mussels to blackened haddock tacos to a fried fisherman's reuben sandwich. We always cook to order and have gluten free and vegetarian menus available, as well as children's meals. Dine full-service on our outdoor, dockside deck or eat lobsters in-the-rough on our harbor side wharf. Located on historic Seven Seas Wharf, there's something for everyone here: shop for souvenirs and local art at our General Store gift shop, enjoy a sail on the Schooner Thomas E. Lannon, or see the whales aboard Seven Seas Whale Watch. Whatever your fancy may be, the Linquata family invites you to join us year-round for a true taste of New England.

“Lovely Restaurant”
Reviewed 21 May 2014

This restaurant is right on the water with good ample parking. You can eat in or out. Since it was still cool out, we decided to eat inside. The dining room is very pleasant and quiet and relaxed. They also have a bar which is very attractive. The specialty is of course the seafood, but they offer a wide selection of steaks, etc. with something for everyone. The service was prompt and very well done. We didn't feel the least bit rushed. It was one of the nicest dining experiences we had on our 19 day road trip through New England. The food was beautifully presented and well prepared. Prices are reasonable considering the quality of the food. This is a winner.

“Excellent Seafood, Large Portions”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

We took a drive up to Gloucester after a day in Salem; we picked the first restaurant we saw, which was the Gloucester House. We were not disappointed; I had a cup of New England clam chowder and Lobster, w/fettuccini dinner from their special menu. The plate was full of the sweetest tasting lobster I ever had. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

“Plate sharing frowned upon”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

When we travel, we always share a meal, health reasons. One of us always adds soup or salad and we also share a dessert. When we informed our server we were sharing the meal, she responded with a brusque tone that this would mean a $5 charge. We explained what we usually order and she responded that there was a minimum that we needed to order to avoid the charge or we would have both the order and the charge. When asked what that minimum was she could NOT tell us, nor would she include the possibility of dessert in the conversation. We did order and met the minimum charge, but if we ever go there again, we would opt for the plate sharing charge. It is less complicated. And, if management reads this, I'd really suggest as I did to our server, that the plate sharing charge be clearly stated on the menu.

“Popular tourist destination, good food but overpriced”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

The headline pretty much says it all. Gloucester House is family owned, has great views of the harbor and what remains of the fishing fleet, and the food, while good, is overpriced. A good location, plenty of space and good parking make it a destination for tour buses during peak travel season. Happily, tour-bus diners are seated apart from everyone else. Again because it has a lot of space, Gloucester House is often the scene of local civic or political events, as well as wedding receptions. It's a nice place, but you can find better local flavor and equally good or better food elsewhere at, most likely, less cost.

“Where the locals hang”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

I used to think that the Gloucester House was for tourists. I was wrong. It has a loyal local crowd both at the bar and in the dining room. The seafood is just as fresh and well-prepared as it should be. The views are nice, and the owner is in really philanthropic, turning over the function rooms to all manner of area not-for- profits. In the summer they have a lovely outdoor space to accommodate the summer crowds.
