Stayed 2 nights in June for a nearby wedding. Stayed in the main house and loved the room. Suite had a bedroom and living room with a small kitchenette. Wonderful view of the shoreline from the living room. Details in this room were beautiful. Eveything was extremely clean and seemed brand new. Not a thing to complain about. Complimentary breakfast with a view had a variety of foods, something for everyone. Afternoon cookies were delicious. Rode bicycles along shoreline. Will definitely return again and explore the town next time as we were busy with family wedding obligations.

Ok..I visited this hotel back in 2006 and I was very happy with everything they had to offer. Well they made some changes and OMG!!!! It is even better than I could ever imagine. Before the rooms were some what drab, you could tell things were old but not to the point where it would make me leave.
The rooms have all been redone or something...I noticed everybody mentioned something about the bathrooms being out of date and small, Well that changed it's all been updated...new furniture our room even had a sleep sofa and a coffe table. The colors just all seems to work well. If you haven't been back there this year you need to take a trip and go back.
As always the staff is friendly and more than helpful...COOKIES are the BEST!!! We went on the website and took a look at the new suites in the main house aand we will be making another trip back for our anniversary in August. take a look at their website and you will see the changes.
I hope to be spending alot more of my summers there!!!

Needed a place to stay for a night while up on Cape Ann for a wedding, conveniently at the function space right next door. You can't beat the location - rooms are probably 40 feet from the ocean, and there are panoramic views from every point on the property except the parking lot.

Great last-minute rates (actually cheaper than some smaller inns further away from the ocean, and much nicer) - I was actually surprised at the price.

Lots of amenities that are perfect for a short trip to the beach - bikes available, heated pool, plenty of lounging/relaxation space, tee times at the adjacent golf course, free breakfast.

The only (minor) negative was the size of the bathroom. Probably the most narrow shower I've ever encountered!

Would definitely stay here again.

Spent 2 nights here and wish we had stayed longer. Fantastic views from all rooms and breakfast room. Very helpful staff- recommended and booked us into lovely restaurant - Passport-when mist descended making eating by the water impossible. Free cookies, apples, coffee, apple juice all available in main house as well as lots of useful information. Quiet at night.

Rooms have absolutely beautiful views. Entire facility is very, very clean and tidy. Lost track of all the little extras: simple but wonderul breakfast in a gorgeous dining room with ocean view; fresh cookies; mints; DVD's (but if you stay inside you're really missing out); bicycles; directions to everywhere; etc. Best of all, the staff. Everyone there is a professional - capable, polite, helpful, friendly. Just can't say too many nice things about this place. Just to be fair, and probably unnecessarily picky, here are the very few minor downsides: mattresses a tad on the hard side for me, bathrooms are pretty small, and the place was a bit hard to find the first time in. Even so, we can't wait to get back.

Okay - I first wan't to start our agreeing with the other reviewers. The Inn is old and in need of a make over, the bathrooms were rediculously small, the yellow tiles and blue toilet and bathtub were charming to say the least. My mother was taking a shower and the shower head came off in her hand. The screen door did not work at all! Two older gentleman came out and tried to fix it for an hour (they were adorable - trying so hard)! They could not fix it so we lived with a door that fell off everytime we tried to get outside (we would laugh so hard everytime it fell off). We did finally move to another room next door. Of course we arrive during a freakish Sept. heatwave (everyday was in the high 80's) and our room had no air conditioning. We couldn't leave the screen door open for we also had holes in the screen, and the fear for our life because the balcony is not private (it is shared). BUT! With all that said - this had to be one of the most glorious, beautiful, charming, enchanting Inn's I have ever stayed at! It's older yes, but clean as a whistle! It's nostalgic of the 50's motor inns but with a historic century home mansion as their lobby. The view from your room is breathtaking!!!! Panoramic! From the craggy - rocky coastline, to the twin lighthouses, to the lobster boats pulling up their catch every morning! Absolutely stunning!!! The staff was super, I was actually sad leaving them. The amenities were great... Free breakfast (nothing fancy - bagels, breads, fruit, cheese, cereals, etc.), free coffee, tea, lemonade, apple cider, chewy homemade cookies (until 10:30 pm), free DVD's! We had to watch the Perfect Storm again and again! The grounds were gorgeous, the pool heated and very well kept up (could use a hot tub though). The icing on the cake was the library/billards room. We had such a great time playing pool at night, before retiring up to our room and sitting out on the balcony watching the stars and moon over the ocean. There is a road between the grounds and the ocean but the hotel sits so close to the road you could still hear the water on the rocks from your room. Traffic was not bad at all in front of the property (I was really surprised), and it was nice you could walk down on the rocks in front of the hotel. The older men were telling us they are planning to remodel this winter (which actually kind of disappointed me - because the Inn is so charming). They could probably update the bathroom fixtures, maybe new bedding, the furniture was older (but clean), and maybe they could fix "all" the screen doors, make them lock, and add a screen to the large picture windows (to get more of those ocean breezes). I just hope they don't do too much and then charge an arm and leg. Oh and if you are into golfing (not for me) there is a 18 hole golf course direcly behind the Inn. I have been a travel agent for a very long time and I would recommend this place to anyone (with a little warning about what to expect)... This is one of my favorite places I have ever stayed - it's definately not the Ritz or Four Seasons, but its views and location make it priceless!!!

The view from our room at the Bass Rocks Ocean Inn was perfect. I requested, and received, a corner room on the ocean. We had glass doors onto a balcony with a view of Thatcher Island lighthouses, and a front plate glass window with a view as far as you can see over the ocean! The first day it drizzled rain, which gave us the opporunity to drink coffee in our sweats as we sat on the rocks oceanside. This is the way to relax! The breakfast (included) was wonderful with homeade breads and Starbucks coffee! A nice treat considering how far removed we were from our local coffee shop! The people at the Bass Rocks Ocean Inn were helpful from start to finish. Fresh chocolate chip cookes each day are a wonderful touch. We didn't have time to ride the bicycles but hope to return for a longer stay in the future! I would highly recommend this Inn for its staff and its location.
