Unfortunately, we could only stay one night, two would have been better so we could have enjoyed the great room longer, and talking longer with the wonderful hosts Richard & Clare. A fresh modern take on a B & B style, without being in someone's house (or dealing with country antiques).
They really did a great job on renovating this motel to be a cool, modern sleek feel. And the homemade granola Richard makes, really is wonderful.
As far as suggestions, Richard was spot on when he recommended the perfect farm to table restaurant for us to dine at in Great Barrington - Allium.
Can't wait to visit again.

Room Tip: The renovated rooms are great.

My husband and I stayed at the Briarcliffe motel for one night in August. We had a newly renovated quiet corner room, done in a beautiful and simple modern decor (a relief after so many flower wallpapers). The bathroom had a very comfortable shower and we slept greatly in the two big beds. Everything was exceptionally clean. Breakfast in the lobby was good. The new owners are doing a great job and are very hospitable and friendly. They happily arranged concert tickets for us at the Guthrie Center. Just be aware that there are no dining options at walking distance and that you will need the car. We chose Allium Restaurant in Great Barrington, which unfortunately was a huge disappointment both in terms of food and service.

As it seems like everyone else is saying the Briarcliff is the place to go for a comfortable overnight experience in the Great Barrington area. Clare and Richard put their best feet forward in renovating a classic 60's motor lodge into what feels like a modern day B&B. It is so unique to have such engaging, hospitable hosts when traveling on business. It felt like we were visiting with old friends. Half the rooms are newly renovated. They're spacious, comfortable and clean. Breakfast is homemade and filling enough. I'm not a skier but Butternut is around the corner. We'll be back soon!

Room Tip: 9 rooms are newly renovated out of 16. All have the same view of the mountain and all are quiet.

We stayed at the Briarcliff while visiting Tanglewood to see our son sing with the Boston Symphony.

The owners have renovated about half of the rooms and they are large with very comfortable beds and great walk in showers in the bathroom. Our room had a flat screen television with a large selection of cable(?) channels.

They serve a very nice continental breakfast that included a large selection of muffins, cold cereal, yogurt, fruit and EXCELLENT coffee! We took the advice of the owners for one of our dinners and for a family breakfast spot. Both recommendations were enjoyed by all. They also suggested a great location for a run in the woods along a stream that would also be nice for a walk in the woods.

Will be our go to location in the Berkshires.

My girlfriend and I traveled to the Briarcliffe from long island, labor day weekend. Richard and Clare run such a beautiful Motel--felt like a cozy BnB really, with the excellent coffee, homemade granola and breakfast. I especially liked hiking up to, 'Devils Pulpit,' across the street in the a.m. Getting away from the busy suburbs, in only 3hrs time was a big plus.., The Motel is at the top of a hill, in a rural section, so you really feel like like you are away-yet you can acess all the 'New England' things to do nearby...Richard and Clare were the real draw though-caring, cultured, interesting, on-site owners, who really pay attention to their Guests and their establishment-highly recommended-def going back!
