I had tried this a couple of times several years ago, but thought it was inferior to China Gourmet. Unfortunately, the latter has changed hands, and it has suffered from it. New Fortune, on the other hand, has worked hard to create fairly decent local Chinese food. I noticed that they still use the traditional cardboard containers for take-out, and I think this allows them to keep costs down while not skimping on ingredients. By comparison with China Gourmet (which uses plastic containers) a simple dish like vegetable lo mein is filled with vegetables, and not just noodles. While it's not the Great Wall in Florence, it is a reliable local alternative.

Contemporary, congenial, tastefully decorated and fastidiously kept throughout, New Fortune Restaurant, located on the Trail next to Greenfield’s Big Y, is an understated treasure. Its menu, while portraying a transcendent overview of mainland Chinese Cuisine, also provides generous samplings of time-honored Vietnamese specialties, as well as setting along side both of these genre a delightfully conversant, three dimensional Sushi Bar discreetly reminiscent of the heart and pride of Japan.

Meals at New Fortune are served steaming and in short order, whether eaten on site or taken out, with one notable plus. While most restaurant fare encounters occasional qualitative ups and downs based largely upon the chef’s personal schedule, New Fortune’s fare sustains a remarkable number of consistently purveyed highs. This means that this jade jewel reflects a refreshing dependability. A luncheon visit here is no different than supper in this regard; albeit, luncheon specials are somewhat more selective, as reflected in their reduced pricing.

In short, for the sheer joy of comfortable, casual dining, New Fortune Chinese Restaurant is unsurpassed in Greenfield or, generally speaking, elsewhere. Furthermore, its range of prices are concomitant with all the pleasantries boasted above. For which reason, America’s current economy truly renders New Fortune Restaurant just that ... a newly acquired fortune.

Other places in Greenfield and Amherst cannot compare to New Fortune. I've been there so many times I never thought about writing a review since we are locals, and then today I saw the "TripAdvisor" sticker on their front door and realized maybe I should.

The staff is very friendly and very accommodating when we ask for something customized to our 6 year old's special request. Plain lo mein with nothing but noodles, and cashews.. no problem. We have eaten their sushi, their Chinese foods, and many other things over the years. Always delicious. Sometimes a little greasy but to be expected with this kind of cuisine. We come back over and over again, and bring friends or family whenever we can.

Today I got take-out, but most other times we dine in the restaurant and the servers are always friendly and quick. My husband's friends who live in Greenfield used to get delivery every Saturday night for weeks. They never had any problems. We have celebrated birthdays and holidays there. It's just a great friendly restaurant. Looks small but I've seen the place hopping on a weekend so I know they are busy.

If you are in town, you should definitely eat here.

We have been going to New Fortune for 8 years. It is a wonderful place to eat authentic Chinese dishes or excellent sushi. A hard to find menu item is a Vietnamese dish Bun Thit. Try this as a special treat.

New Fortune has fast take out and delivers locally. Don't miss this authentic Chinese restaurant in the Pioneer Valley.

China Gourmet cannot touch the Sushi at New Fortune. The atmospher is a little hole-in-the-wall, but the quick service and excellent food more than makes up for it.
