“Great place for breakfast”

This is a great place for breakfast. They have Meltaway's that are so good and you can buy them in the bakery to take home with you. They have a nice variety of breakfast foods and there is something for everyone.

“Good Breakfast Place But Bakery Is the Star”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 December 2013

After 30 some years, the Bonatt family bought back the business the family founded. When they started out, they were only a bakery, but later owners morphed the business into more of a breakfast/lunch place and the bakery took a bit of a back seat. Happily, with the original family back in charge, that has changed for the better. The bakery is now open early and stays open most of the day. I don't want to oversell the baked goods and there are better bakeries around (although not necessarily nearby), but Bonatt's turns out some good items. Other reviewers have mentioned the Melt-a-Way which Jimmy Bonatt purportedly invented, and it is tasty enough, although I woulld prefer it more were it baked just a tad longer. Other breakfast items are more to my liking, namely the sticky buns and the muffins. I am particularly fond of the cranberry muffins which, besides utilizing the signature agricultural product of Harwich, are not excessively sweet as some muffins these days tend to be and are accented by the tartness of the cranberries. As for the restaurant side of the business, what can one say? All of the standard items are here: Eggs in any configuration, waffles piled high with add-ons of fruit, etc. and other assorted items. The fact that the place is crowed all morning long is testimony to the fact that they are doing something right. I am a cup of coffee and sweet roll type myself, so I stick to the bakery items which I believe are worth a try.

“Yum!”

This is a fabulous place for breakfast but get there early, it fills up by 8 am...If you haven't tried one of their famous Melt a ways, you are truly missing out on one of the most yummy pastries, delicious in its simplicity yet richness...I always get their eggs benedict, which is delicious..hubby's french toast was made with berries and challah bread and real cream....

“Disapointed in service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 October 2013

My friends and I usually travel to the Cape several times a year to enjoy a girls weekend or just a girls day and always make a stop at Bonatt's to get meltaways and to have breakfast before we start a day of shopping. Today we had our girls day on the cape and upon arriving at Bonatt's we went o the bakery of which I called ahead to reserve the meltaways. We asked at the girl behind the counter if we could separate our order as they were going to separate people. The girl behind the counter immediately gave us attitude saying she was not told we wanted them separated and that she could not put them in separate boxes not even suggesting to us that she would put them in bags for us. We had to ask for bags of which she gave us attitude again. Then she proceeded to ring them up together even tough she had separated them. When I asked her to ring them separate as they were going to separate people and there were three of us standing there again she snapped at us saying she was also not told we wanted them rung separately. She then proceeded to tell us we obviously didn't know how things work on the Cape.
I guess we won't be making a special trip to Bonatt's and that's to bad we love the meltaways but didn't appreciate the service.

“Uppity Staff”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 October 2013 via mobile

Stopped here for their famous meltaways and for breakfast. We had pre ordered the meltaways because they go fast. The clerk in the bakery was the rudest person I've encountered in a while. When we asked her to split the order she gave us a hard time. Then when we wanted to pay for 3 separate orders, we were told we didn't specify that! We tried being nice and chatty and were told we didn't understand the seasonality of the Cape! The add insult to injury, there was a long dark hair in one of our breakfasts! Probably won't be going back!
