Boy, did I want to like Beachfire! Why is it so hard to find a waterfront restaurant with decent food? Despite the spectacular sea-side setting of this place, or maybe because of it, we get the typical phoned-in, mediocre fare of every other waterfront seafood joint from the Mid-Cape to the North Shore. (Think greasy fried seafood; burgers; limp, over-dressed salads and Costco chicken wings. I will, however, amend that to say the chowder here is good.) This place has so much potential to be a really killer year-round restaurant, it's such a shame to see yet another waterfront spot coasting by on its pretty view and ability to sell booze. (I would LOVE to see Gordon Ramsey get his mitts on this place!)
Do go to this place with a full stomach and lowered gustatory expectations on a beautiful summer evening to enjoy drinks, excellent live music and a spectacular water view. If you squint past the sloppy clientele and beleaguered wait staff and don't eat the food you can almost imagine you're in La Jolla. Wear your drinking shoes, (ie NOT heels) because the footing on the outdoor terrace can be a little uneven. Also, unless you can find a spot on the street, expect to pay $7 to park in the Nantasket Beach lot. Cramped quarters in the restroom, too. (And would it kill them to empty the overflowing trash in there?)
