“We would go again...”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

The Ipswich Bed and Breakfast was great for my husband and I. Ray.."like the sun"!...was indeed a welcoming host. He was very clear about wanting to do anything to make our stay a good one and he lived up to his promise!
Although the room, advertised as two rooms was not what might be the suite you would expect, it was just fine for us and quite charming. I was most impressed with the cleanliness and the more contemporary decorations. It didn't seem stuffy or old. And, the king sized bed was very comfortable.
The best was breakfast. Offerings were many and gourmet beyond the typical, average offerings. Coffee was great as well. Perhaps a coffee maker in the Veranda Suite would be a good addition for early risers like ourselves.
I can't imagine that anyone would not enjoy staying at this hospitable Inn. Mrs. Bieber

My husband and I are newlyweds. We had an...ordeal at another establishment during our honeymoon and found this gorgeous B&B by chance. Ray and Margaret welcomed us with open arms. We were greeted with a glass of wine (much needed after our ordeal elsewhere!) and got to talk to Ray anour the area. The location was perfect for us as we wanted the history and a smaller atmosphere. The home is quite old in age, but the upkeep is so apparent. We stayed in the Veranda Suite and unlike the previous reviewer, we found it to be stunning. The second room is a separated area like an open concept apartment. All together, it is complete with a wet bar, television, comfortable king bed, ample closet space, large bathroom with a tub and shower.... Breakfast was some of the best I've had and the selection is well rounded there. People throughout the town know of Ray and his inn and breakfast; people only had good things to say of him.
Honestly, I cannot rave enough about this establishment. If you have a chance to stay here, you'd not only be welcomed, you'll be happy!

Upon arrival, Ray welcomed us like old friends; we were given a glass of wine to enjoy on the terrace whilst watching the wild turkeys wander around the beautiful gardens. This created an excellent first impression and we immediately felt at home. Ray also recommended a great restaurant for dinner that evening (Ithaki) and kindly booked a table for us.

The room was beautifully decorated and furnished in keeping with the period style of the house and the bed was very comfortable.

Breakfast was very good quality indeed. However, when enquiring of the waitress what we were allowed to order as B&B guests, she replied "anything you want". So we assumed we'd be able to have a mixture of dishes (e.g. 1 French toast & 1 pancake) so we ordered half & half portions of a couple of dishes, only to be told, "no, you can't do that!" This made us feel rather foolish and somewhat greedy. The overall service at breakfast was slow and inconsistent with how attentive Ray had been upon arrival. As they are open to the public for breakfast, I suspect they sometimes struggle to cope with the volume of covers, especially at weekends.

Aside from the disappointing and ambiguous episode at breakfast, I would still return to the Ipswich Inn - if only for the warm reception from Ray and Margaret.

This is the place to go for a real old fashioned breakfast. Small, bright and airy with outside seating and superb food. Corned beef hash is exceptional. Specials daily. Great service. Special functions available, the food is excellent.

Stayed one night here as we were in town for a friend's wedding. The owners Ray and Margaret were very welcoming and friendly, and let us check in early which was great. We had the Wicker Room which had great natural light, two nice ceiling fans, and a window A/C unit. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Good location, easy to walk into town and a quick drive to Crane Beach and the Estate at Castle Hill. The breakfast included in the morning was excellent! We'd definitely stay here again.

When my sister and I arrived we were greeted by Ray and shown to our room, the Veranda Suite. The suite had a king sized bed and a pull out sofa bed which we needed since my sister is a restless sleeper. Although it is described as a two room suite it is really one large room with a nearly room-wide arched wall opening (no door) that separates the bedroom area from the sitting area. The sofa is positioned at an angle that requires you to move it each time to pull the window shade up and down. Also, when the sofa is opened to use as a bed, it blocks the passage to the room door making it so one entering and leaving the room would have to crawl over the opened sofa bed. I was worried about needing to use the door in an emergency and decided not to open the bed.

The decor in the sitting room reminded me of my aunt's house that had "odds and ends" pieces of furniture but the bedroom part felt more welcoming. One of the closets had sweaters and hand bags stored inside. There was carpeting in the bedroom and bare wood floor in the sitting area. There was an older air conditioning unit in the window in back of the sofa. I would have liked better lighting for reading.

The bathroom was large with both a claw footed tub and shower. Towels were large and very soft. Both the bathroom and bed/sitting room were very clean. The bedroom/sitting room had four windows--two of the "older" windows had room darkening shades but the single and double newer windows had just white cotton curtains which let in a lot of light in the early morning waking us around 5:45 a.m. The king bed was very comfortable and there were ample pillows.

Breakfast is served in a large room that reminds one of a sun room. On the morning we were there, there was only one waitress to take care of the whole room plus the outdoor deck seating area which was much to much for any one person to handle. We chose our breakfast from the menu which had a large assortment of items and then waited an hour and twenty minutes from the time we ordered our breakfast until we were served. Finally, another person from the front desk came to help out. The orange juice was delicious. I had an omelet which was cooked very well and the bacon was crispy as ordered. The cranberry muffin seemed "tough" as if the batter had been overbeaten and not very good. The yogurt, granola and fresh fruit was very good.

Thanks to Ray and Margaret, Rebecca and all the team at the Ipswich Inn who made our family feel so comfortable during our stay last weekend. The meals we ate there were delicious and met the diverse needs of our family of five effortlessly. We all agreed that the gardens surrounding the outside dining area are enchanting and the rooms were cozy and clean. You all made our weekend especially memorable.
