“A wonderful unique stay”
Reviewed 11 February 2014

We recently rented four rooms at the Chambery for a family gathering in the Berkshires. We had a wonderful experience and all of our kids loved their rooms as well. The staff is welcoming and the rooms unique with tall ceilings. Breakfast in a basket is a wonderful treat each morning to be enjoyed in bed or by the fire. The rooms are impeccably clean and bathrooms complete with a whirlpool.

The Chambery is in a wonderful location close to great restaurants, skiing and culture.

We will definitely be back!

We began visiting the Chambery Inn 20 years ago during our dating years. We fell in love with the Berkshires and Chambery was a part of those memories. Chambery is a charming inn with large comfortable rooms, high ceilings, fireplaces and canopied beds. The staff is warm and friendly, and their morning breakfast baskets are lovely. If you go, visit Chez Nous across the street for an outstanding meal.

Room Tip: Spend a little more for the deluxe suites- though all rooms are very nice.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights in November and enjoyed our stay from check-in to check-out! This was a spur of the moment get-away and we were thrilled with the extra large room on the top floor with a lovely sitting area and gas fireplace. Kristen recommended a wonderful French Restaurant (Chez Nous) and gave us the tour of our room upon our arrival. All the reception clerks were friendly and happy to answer any questions we had. Breakfast is delivered in a basket to your door each morning at a time you specify. Loved the blackboard! Close to Stockbridge and Lenox. We even woke up to snow on our last morning there...a perfect ending to a wonderful holiday! Would definitely stay here again!

Very unique 500sf rooms. Luxurious. Quiet. Comfortable. Breakfast in bed. Beautiful drives everywhere. Can't wait to return!
The place is very cool and romantic. Once a school. The rooms are huge, with black boards on the walls. Fireplace and couch in the room. Huge comfortable canopy beds.
As soon as we checked in, we decided not to go back out. We just enjoyed the room so much!

My husband and I stayed here one night to celebrate our anniversary. The room was beautiful but the desk was right outside our door. We could hear the receptionist checking in other guests and answering the phone like she was in our room. She was not talking loudly and was very pleasant but there was no way we were going to make love with her as an audience so if you're going for romance make sure to ask for a room away from the check-in desk. That is my ONLY complaint. I would have given a higher rating if I wasn't so disappointed about not being able to make love privately on our anniversary.

Room Tip: deluxe rooms on first floor are not private

My husband and I were visiting family for a week and for one night decided to treat ourselves to this charming bed and breakfast! We had learned about tripadvisor from our stay here and I am in love with the fact that i can write a review and people actually read it! This b+b is so perfect i cannot think of a thing I would change! Treat yourself to this romantic schoolhouse! We may just plan our trip around this b+b first and figure out the family plans later..or for our anniversary. We had stayed on a schoolhouse suite with a balcony, we ended up eating breakfast outside after it was delivered to our door, how romantic. The rooms are very large and the staff are very very friendly. She gave us a tour of our room at check in and at check out helped us with our luggage and wished us farewell (last day after a week in town) What a great way to end our family get together with a night just for the two of us! Would definitely recommend

Room Tip: Two of the schoolhouse suites have balconies

The Chambery Inn occupies a building that back in the 19th century was a private school. The rooms are all converted school rooms and are larger than any B&B rooms that I have ever encountered before. Except for the blackboards, now covered with little notes and sketches by prior guests, the rooms bear little resemblance to their former use. Ours had a large four poster king bed, a gas fireplace, HD-TV, five big windows, and multiple tables, sofas, and chairs. The bath was very roomy and even included a whirlpool tub. A lot of nice extras were provided, such as extra bath towels and toiletries, a Keurig coffee machine in the room, and even four port power bays on the nightstand and desk.

There is no breakfast room. Breakfast is ordered off of a menu card which you leave on your door knob before going to bed. In the morning, a full hot breakfast is delivered to your room at your selected time. Since the room is so big and has several tables, it is easy to spread out the large breakfast and eat comfortable.

The owners are not in residence, but live nearby. The young woman who checked us in was friendly and helpful, as was the young woman who checked us out when we left. If socializing with the owners or other guests is an important part of your B&B experience, this may not be the place for you. Otherwise, its unusual layout, unique features, and unexpected extras definitely make it worth a stay.
