“More comfortable than home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2014

Stayed here two separate times, once in the Westinghouse Suite and once in the Penthouse Suite. The building itself is exactly what you should expect from a B&B. It's very large for a house, with stairways and extra rooms everywhere. It's quiet, too, except for the downstairs dining room at breakfast time. Not to say the place is deserted, since there are often people in the downstairs living room area, but if you want to keep to yourself you certainly can.
The rooms are the same as the rest of the house: large, well decorated, comfortable, and clean. The Penthouse is our favorite of the two, with a two person jacuzzi tub and remote-control fireplace in the bedroom, as well as a great view from the top of the inn.
The food at breakfast was great, with a good selection of cold foods (the yogurt is delicious!) and the option of the hot breakfast they're making for the day. We had scrambled eggs (with choices of spinach, feta, mushrooms, and cheddar) and toast, and then blueberry pancakes the next day.
The area around the Inn has a bunch of small and medium sized towns, as well as some standouts like the Norman Rockwell museum and the Lee Premium Outlets. Otherwise there's plenty of quaint New England shops to visit, great food (highly recommend Brava in Lenox for Tapas, and the Brickhouse Pub in Houstatonic for fried pickles). There's plenty to do, and we've only been to a fraction of the towns in our two visits.
My only regret was forgetting to raid the cookie jar during our last stay.

Food was average, atmosphere at breakfast not relaxing with the server talking very loud and an owner striking conversation with select guests. We felt uncomfortable, could not wait for a breakfast to be over. The owner seem to be friendly but his mood was changing unexpectedly. Our room was clean but had a step down to the bathroom. We were warned about it but when I woke up in the middle of the night I forgot and tripped. It was not safe.

And just when we were striving to be #1!!! Wow...this person just doesn't fit in. She rates us a 2 on value when she took the least expensive room AND had a 50% discount on top of it. Our guests who choose this room know in advance that it is a lovely room but it is our smallest, most moderately priced and that the bathroom has a step down (that's why the night light is important). As far as breakfast is concerned...I'll let the 100+ other reviews speak for themselves. Yes, I "work" the breakfast room every morning. I find out where people had dinner, what their experience was, what their plans for the day are etc. With the exception of this guest, such interaction is well received by everyone else. That is part of the Bed & Breakfast experience...getting to meet and interact with the owners. The bottom line is...this just isn't the type of place for them.

Stayed one night here in the Alexander room. Very nicely appointed house, with video collection, tv room, sitting room, and guest pantry. Breakfast was served and was delicious, fresh fruit and a veggie keesh.

Thank you for your wonderful review; however we noted that there was still some improvement for "value" and "service" wherein you only gave us 4 out of 5. You stated that you stayed in the Alexander Room; however we do not have a room by that name. Can you help us identify the right one i.e. The Andrew Room #2? so we can evaluate the "value"/pricing on that room. Also, any suggestions on how we can earn a 5 for service would be appreciated. Again, thank you for staying with us and for taking out the time to post a review.

We celebrated Valentine's Day weekend here and discovered what a lovely place it will be to spend any weekend! Our room had a fireplace and jacuzzi tub which made it hard to want to leave the room. But when we did, our hosts were very helpful in letting us know where to shop, dine, and have fun. All their recommendations were spot on. The breakfast each more was exceptional and the best we've ever experienced - over our 3-day stay the variety was wonderful. Devonfield's location is easy to get to and far enough off the beaten path to feel like you're out in the country while still convenient to lots to do. They provide everything you need including access to a kitchen where they stock snacks and warm drinks to make a fridge to store any food or drink you might bring with you. There is a complimentary cordial bar which was nice to finish our evening in front of the fire in the main den. To top things off our hosts surprised us with a bottle of champagne for Valentine's Day. We'll definitely be back!

We visited the inn in January and arrived mid evening with a warm welcome from Bruce the innkeeper. He was friendly and gave us some great suggestions for dinner that evening. We purchased the get-away through Groupon so it was a great value and we were pleased with our room. It was bitter cold that night and we found our room to be very comfortable with an additional space heater provided. The bathroom was spacious with all amenities included.
The location is perfect being equal distance from Lenox, Lee, and Stockbridge. We skied at Butternut Basin and Bruce provided us with vouchers to save quite a bit on our lift tickets as well.
The inn is lovely and there are plenty of places to relax. The pantry is available twenty four hours a day which was stocked with coffee, tea, water, and cookies. Breakfast was great as was the service!
Thanks for as great weekend getaway.

We recently stayed at the Devonfield Inn for one evening. It was a much needed night away for my husband and I. I chose this inn due to the location, and the positive reviews. I must say the positive reviews were spot on.

We stayed in room 4 - The Roosevelt Suite. This room has a king size sleigh bed, 2 person corner jacuzzi tub (can fit 2 easily), and a beautiful wood burning fireplace with flat screen television. It also has a separate sitting room with an additional flat screen television. The bathroom has a huge shower and beautiful vanity. The furnishings were just gorgeous in the entire room. The view of the meadow along the four windows of our room was breathtaking, to the left was the pool view. This room is located on the end of the inn so it was very quiet and serene. We had a bottle of chilled white wine waiting for us as well.

Upon arriving we were greeted by Bruce the innkeeper and he gave us a quick tour including some history behind the inn. We instantly felt at home. This is a spacious inn with plenty of room to sit and relax, with multiple fireplaces to warm your toes. All of the furnishings at the inn are beautiful. The inn retains its history and time period, without being stuffy and uncomfortable. They have a beautiful blend of antique and more modern furnishings. The breakfast area is cozy (we sat fireside), and bright, but most of all we really enjoyed watching the birds in the bird feeder while we ate breakfast. We truly enjoyed the tea, coffee, fresh baked breakfast bread and chocolate chip cookies that were available 24 hours a day in the guest kitchen. They have a super great kitchen area for guests where you can store food, get dishes, utensils, etc. My husband enjoyed the cordials bar which was located in the living room very much too!

We were able to tour all the other rooms of the inn while there and a few others had fireplaces. Every room was just as beautiful. They have a nice balance of smaller rooms, larger rooms, and luxury suites. Everything here was meticulously clean and tidy. This inn is located close enough to restaurants, shopping and anything you might need - yet far enough away that you feel like you are away from it all.

I would highly recommend this inn and only wish we could have stayed longer!!

Let me start by saying, I had never stayed at a Inn/B&B before- I normally prefer very modern hotels so this was going to be a make it or break it for me. I was looking for a romantic weekend away and my wish list was that the room included a fireplace and maybe a nice soaking tub. Devonfield Inn came up on numerous searches and after reading the fantastic reviews we decided to give them a try. I couldn't have been more please we did, they totally changed my views on Inn's. Upon arrival we met Bruce (the owner), who was very friendly and showed us around the house and gave us area information. The house was gorgeous. They did a fantastic job of keeping the elegance and historical aspects of the house as well as incorporating newer modern elements to stay with the times. We stayed in the Roosevelt Suite, which has a king bed, fireplace, jacuzzi tub, sitting room and private bathroom. The room had 2 flat screen tv's, a large closet and an updated bathroom which was not expected. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable and most importantly the room was clean. There is a kitchen area for guests that has a fridge for drinks/leftovers, glasses, wine openers and fresh baked cookies. Candy bowls were placed around the house for munching and there was some liquors (Kahula, Disaronno, Frangelico, cognac etc) in the living room. Chocolates and water bottles in the room were also a nice touch. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion and makeup remover wipes were in our room. Breakfast is served from 8:30-9:30- we came down at 8:45 to find the breakfast area packed, not a seat to be found. (Which we were shocked about because we had only seen 2 other couples the night before and didn't hear a sound the entire time we were there) So we grabbed a drink and sat out in the living room to wait for a spot to open up. We just couldn't get over how peaceful and quite the house was with all these people inside! Fifteen minutes later we were able to grab a seat for breakfast. The breakfast buffet had cereals, granola, yogurts, cottage cheese, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit & pastry. The hot item was blueberry pancakes with kielbasa. Everything was wonderful, the pancakes were amazing. The lady who was in charge of breakfast was very friendly and made sure everyone had enough to eat. The other owner, Ronnie came around during breakfast to inquire about everyone's stay- which I thought was very nice. You can tell they truly care about their guests happiness. The house is located just a few minutes from town so it was easy for us to try out some restaurants/bars and hit the outlets.
Overall we would stay here again and I'm positive we will be back. The owners seem to be very in touch with what their guests want and how they should be treated. The only suggestion I would make is more outlets in the room. We had a hard time finding plugs for 2 phones and an iPad. A nice outlet strip would be perfect! But if outlet space is the only thing I can find to mention- they must be doing something right! As I said in the beginning, this Inn was make it or break it for us, and we loved it. We will certainly not immediately discount staying at an Inn/B&B again! Thank you so much to everyone who made our stay wonderful. Give Devonfield Inn a chance....You will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: Roosevelt suite is very spacious with a jacuzzi tub, fireplace and great views on the backyard.
