Beautiful grounds and a a peek into a lifestyle known to very few people. Also gives you a little bit of a different view of The War. But if you read some of her quotes, you may find, as I did, that you would prefer staying/visiting here to actually meeting the owner of the place. This is a lady who apparently inherited a bundle. She complained that her fund raising activities tired her out and that the war was really (in not so many words) taking the fun out of her life. Get past that kind of nonsense and you can enjoy a sense of an American "Upstairs/Downstairs" estate. Still being restored, it is not as impressive as the Newport Mansions or the various Vanderbilt Estates. But worth a stop if you are in the area.

We knew nothing about Edith Wharton but had been told that "the Mount" is beautiful. The tour really introduced us to a very interesting authoress and activist! The grounds are beautiful. On the weekend, you might want to call ahead to see if the hours/availability have changed due to weddings scheduled. Although it was interesting to see how the event was being set up, it did limit our ability to see all of the grounds and house in detail. Would have liked to go back into the House after the tour to explore further. All in all, though, a very good experience.

I am an Edith Wharton fan and this is a must see for others. Anyone though, will enjoy this stately mansion that takes you to another era. Beautiful gardens and serene view of the Berkshires.

if you can definetly go to the mount.didnt know anything about edith,till visiting.what an eye opener.the house is so light and refreshing.the garden was so beautiful.take the guided tour which is included n the admission,the women we had was wonderful.so informative .I loved everyminute of it.i would so recommend seeing the mount if you are in the area,also visited the café that is on the grounds,i had the tuna salad which was very good and the homemade ice tea,there is so much history in this beautiful home,i learned a lot in just a short time thankyo for a realy great afternoon.
