I stayed at the Gateways Inn in Lenox MA over July 4th weekend 2014. What a charming Bed & Breakfast in the heart of the Berkshires. My room was well appointed, crisp & clean. Care was taken to make sure my stay surpassed my own expectations. I ate at the restaurant every night even though there are many other options in town and never missed the seductive breakfast menu. Prepared by the owner Michele, she clearly loves what she does (the secret ingredient in the food). I was delighted that the nightly entertainment in the lounge was engaging and found out locals go there to unwind. Michele's husband and owner Eiran made me feel so welcome that soon I felt like family. No question I'm already looking forward to going back next year.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms and I think they all have a Teddy Bear for that familiar home feeling.

We recently spent a delightful weekend at the Gateways Inn. The innkeepers, Eiran and Michele, as well as their staff went out of their way to assure that we had every possible comfort. The residence was filled with charm and was an easy walk to the specialty shops of historic Lenox as well as a very close drive to Tanglewood. We enjoyed a delicious homemade breakfast which was elegantly presented. Our overall experience was one of real warmth and hospitality and we can't wait to return to this lovely oasis in the Berkshires. P.Z. & M.Z., Livingston, NJ

I was unaware that any Inn or Hotel could charge above their highest published rate, was did the Gateways inn. In addition, they added in a 5% service charge that was not stated upfront.
Also for the price paid ($400 per night), one would thin that you were receiving top notch service and high quality food.
The rooms for our party were immaculately cleaned - so that certainly was not an issue - the amenities in the bath area are substandard and possibly similar to what one might receive at a under $100 a night motel. Also, when one of our party had asked if he could have a different selection from the breakfast offering, one of the co-owners gave a quick, surly negative response. (They paid close to $500 a night for their room.)

The entertainment in the evening at the bar performed by a trio was very good (great vocalist)- I would go back for that - but to stay at the Inn, not a chance.

I am so glad you mention how immaculately clean our rooms are, and that you enjoyed the music in our lounge.
The fact that you decided to ignore the special (higher) rates posted for the 4th of July weekend, as well as our clearly stated policies advising guests about our service charges, and the confirmation email you received upon making the reservation - could be easily forgiven.
In the context of your attempted blackmail and accusations of tax fraud, in an email to me (stating "We all did enjoy our stay at the Inn."), they cannot and should not, be forgiven. Our rates are clear, our policies publicly posted; integrity and transparency is the way we conduct our business - and there are no "hidden" charges.

Since a vast majority of our guests and reviewers compliment our breakfasts, I will refrain from commenting on your remark, especially since the co-owner you refer to is my wife, Michele - who is highly appreciated by all our [other] guests. For the record, at your friend’s request, a special order was made, and he took the whole incident in the joking, good humored manner in which it was intended.

As to the amenities, I assume you are aware that one of the women in your party inquired about purchasing samples to take home, but instead took all the unused amenities from the room - they are after all complimentary. Substandard or not (they are actually pretty high quality, custom made for us by a very reputable supplier), I guess somebody liked them... we do sell a lot.

This review is a cheap and despicable abuse of a public forum, and is a result of your inability to admit to a mistake you made. Frankly, I am surprised Trip Advisor allowed its publication. Thankfully your views are not consistent with those of our many, very happy guests, as is reflected in other postings here.

As far as bed and breakfasts are concerned, you can't get better than this. Large, clean, comfortable rooms. Fantastic bathroom. VERY QUIET! (We stayed in a room behind the bar. We never heard a peep, it was sound proofed so well!) They had live music at night, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The location is perfect, right in the heart of everything. The staff is incredibly friendly, exactly what you would expect. The outdoor patio is a great place for breakfast or a cup of coffee. My husband loved the huge selection of whiskey from around the world.
We would absolutely stay here again!

Room Tip: I can't imagine any room not being a great choice!

I frequently stay at B&B's when traveling on weekends and just spent an enchanted family reunion at the Gateways Inn, which is a landmark hotel in the heart of Lenox. All the charming rooms are named after characters in Shakespearean plays. My mother and sister booked a one bedroom ("Portia", max occupancy: 2 guests) a few months back, when I decided to join at the last minute. The innkeepers, Michele and Eiran, were incredibly accommodating setting up an extra rollaway bed. We were so appreciative given this was their busy Tanglewood season and everywhere else in Lenox was fully booked. Michele and Eiran made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The complementary breakfast was one of the finest I've had at a B&B with fresh squeezed orange juice, a delicious selection of fresh fruit, vanilla and honey yogurt, homemade granola (that you can buy to take home) and an assortment of cheeses, baguettes and homemade jams. Saturday we were given almond flavor french toast that was out of this world. Sunday warm cinnamon buns, scramble eggs, lox & bagels.

On Saturday evening, after having a late lunch in Stockbridge we decided to have a light meal in the Piano Bar. The food offerings were themed like the Tel Aviv Plate, the Athens Plate, the Atlantis Plate. I love Mediterranean food and thoroughly enjoyed a glass of house Cabernet $9 with the Athens Plate $18: Spanikopita, Stuffed Grape Leaves, Tsatsiki (Yogurt with Cucumber and Dill) Herbed Cubed Feta Cheese & Olives.

The Entertainment was a clarinet and pianist giving the evening a old-time supper club vibe, which was very pleasant.

Whether you're looking for a place to stay, dinner or a drink, or music & entertainment - I highly recommend the Gateways Inn.

Just enjoyed a fabulous weekend. Lenox is a lovely town and staying at an inn just a quick walk into town made it that much better. The Inn was impeccable, our room cozy and comfortable and the food was delicious. The Inn keepers are warm, personable, and make you feel like family. The home-made granola was a great first course to a full, home-made breakfast. In the evenings it was relaxing to sit in the lounge, have a drink and listen to some live music. Really couldn't ask for anything more!

Just returned from a very 5-star experience at The Gateways Inn. Gorgeous inn close to shopping, 1.5 miles from Tanglewood. Innkeepers are warm and accommodating people. Our room was lovely ("Adriana") and Michele is an amazing cook. Homemade granola is fabulous. Dinner had a Middle Eastern flair. If you know anything about this type of fare, this is the real deal. Just delicious! Looking forward to returning.
