“Elegant and charming”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014

The Summer White House was built in 1885 and is filled with antiques that make you feel as if you have stepped back in time. The B and B owners were incredibly helpful with recommendations as to which things to do in the area - there is so much that it is difficult to cram everything you want to do into your day!
Our room was lovely and comfortable with a spacious private bath - you feel as if you are visiting your ancestral home! Breakfast conversation was outstanding with interesting guests from all over. Homemade breads and fresh fruit were a treat. The owner visited with all of the guests each morning with stories that lent wonderful local color to the town. We wished we could have stayed longer. Many restaurants and lovely shops within very easy walking distance.

Room Tip: There is some traffic near the B and B every night when Tanglewood attendees drive through town, so...

Despite the frigid temperatures outside, our Presidents' Weekend stay at The Summer White House could not have been better. Our room offering a view of Main Street was spacious and beautifully furnished with a very comfortable bed, excellent lighting for reading and a decent-sized flat screen TV offering lots of channels. The breakfasts offered a good variety of hot and cold items, including expertly prepared egg dishes and delicious baked goods made on site. The dining room and other public rooms on main floor are very comfortable and tastefully furnished with lots of interesting artwork and memorabilia, and a blazing fireplace. What's more, the inn is extremely well located--within a short walk of Lenox's shops and restaurants, and minutes by car to the town's many cultural attractions. Best of all, the innkeepers and manager are among the nicest and most helpful people we've ever encountered in B&Bs, offering great conversation and terrific suggestions for restaurants and other attractions. We will definitely be back in the warm weather when we can enjoy the spacious, closed-in front porch.

Charming is the word for this B&B in little Lenox, MA. The rooms are equiped with canopy beds, fireplaces, and lovely sitting rooms. Breakfast is buffet style and loaded with variety. We met folks from all over the United States as well as England. The conversation was lively and I even learned that theTanglewood concerts were broadcast on local radio. In the evening sherry and port are set out on lovely trays with vintage glasses. You can enjoy a night cap on the closed in porch or in one of the lovely board rooms. A large grand piano is in the living room available for the staff or guests to play. The rooms have stacks of books mostly about the presidents and their wives and American History. The appointments are ,all mostly antiques dating back in American History. Some invitations to dinners at the White House were imcluded. The room I was in is known as the Nancy Reagan Roomand it had a porch with lovely french doors to the bedroom and a quite modern bath with all the ammenities.
The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about sights in the area including the Riveting Tanglewood Festival, which is open throughout the summer and features the Boston Pops at its finest.
Many fine restaurants are within walking distance but be sure to make reservations in advance for the B&B and the restaurants since they are in high demand.

Room Tip: They are all good choose your favorite First Lady

An innkeeper who has been presiding over this excellent, antique establishment for 30 years. Courtly, in the middle of historic Lenox, a great kitchen and all the info you need to know in the region.

Charming.

Room Tip: call ahead and ask for Frank

The Summer White House is located in the heart of Lenox and is conveneint to the town and to Tanglewood. We stayed in the Nancy Reagan room which has a four poster bed and a small enclosed terrace. The room is comfortable and filled with artwork. The Inn was built in the late 19th century and has many attractive antiques. The hosts Frank and Mary were very friendly and helpful during our stay. They offered to store our wine to keep it cool and provided valuable advice for travelling and parking at Tanglewood. Breakfasts are buffet style in a lovely dining room and the food was fine. There is a wonderful charm about the Summer White House, and though its an old house, it offers everything you'd want from a B & B.

The Summer White House is wonderful. Excellent value for the price. Central location, comfortable room, quiet, easy access to Tanglewood, and excellent hosts. Frank and Mary are the perfect hosts, friendly and interesting but respectful of guests' privacy. They magically appear just as you needed something! The Mamie Eishenhower room had a very comfortable canopy bed, fireplace, and two arm chairs that were perfect for relaxing and a small, functional bathroom (also a flat screen TV that you will never need because of all the restaurants and activities within walking distance!). Everything is in very good condition, and there are many interesting pieces to admire throughout the house. The living rooms and front porch beckon you to sit with coffee or sherry and talk to other guests, if you choose. Plenty of private spaces...tables for two in the dining room, seating for two on the porch, and at least two living spaces with comfortable sofas and chairs. Frank couldn't be a better host. Be sure to take the time to talk with him, he's a very interesting man.

Built around 1875 ..She's old and full of character.. however a bit over-tired in places to be honest. You could write a long list of maintenance tasks required, starting with.a particularly noisy old Air-Con and worn out door lock in our room .
We stayed three days for a James Taylor Concert at Tanglewood so paid Top Dollar. Right in down town Lenox so superb location

Overall though any faults made up for by totally charming accomodating and helpful owner in Frank aided by Melissa..

We enjoyed our stay there.

Room Tip: Ask get them to confirm Air Con is Quite .
