“Slow service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2013

The place was loud. Like being at a college cafeteria. The food was average. They had two different games on the televisions. They had no volume being piped in, so all you heard was a bunch of drunk young 20 year olds. I went there about 8 pm on a Sunday night, My server was slow, and took forever took get another beer. She would always have to ask, what kind?
The manager, dressed like a referee, walked around talking about some girls he met at the strip clubs in Albany vs. Springfleld.. Good amount of televisions, and the waitress was a human rain delay. Go eat somewhere else. I had to wait so long to get my check, I got up and told the manager to run my card or I was leaving.

“mazzcots sports bar & food in Lenox, Massachusetts”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 October 2013

visited here on Saturday night on a road trip through New England whilst staying at the nearby HOJO motel and walkable! it was busy because it was 8.30 on a Saturday night, we did not have a reservation and there were some bug local games on. The host said he could get us a table for 2 in 30 minutes if we were prepared to wait. A table was free in 25 minutes. good was typical fare, burgers, pizzas, wings, salads etc. plenty of beer choices.

yes, it is noisy and lively but we had a good evening. our server was very kind. We had wings and fried pickles to start. Oh had a very nice burger and I had a garlic and clam white pizza which was very thin and crispy. The check came to $40 including a couple of beers/ciders each. if you are passing through it was a fun place for some good honest grub and fun evening in the berkshires.

“Every parking space full”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 October 2013

The owners of the nearby Mazzeo's restaurant have taken over the former site of Halpin's, re-launching it as a sports bar (which it sort of was as Halpin's). The Mazzeos folks really know how to run a restaurant. On a Sunday noontime every parking space was full, the place was packed, yet service was quick AND the food came up right away, and the check was brought promptly, yet we never felt rushed. Being "in balance" is the sign of a well run restaurant; too often during busy periods your order might get taken but you'll wait for food, or vice versa.

And the food was a cut above the typical sports bar that often more emphasizes things like cheap drafts or wing specials. The food was actually good and the portions ample. The crowd was a mix of the community. Some families with kids, some groups of young guys in team jerseys watching the TVs, some couples, a few out of area visitors. There are a couple of pool tables but nobody was playing.

New restaurants can open stronger than they sustain when curious people come in to try and place and then leave disappointed, but Mazcots has its act together and if they keep running it like they've been running it, they should have a winner. Just remember that it IS a sports bar so there will be TVs playing and some cheering/shouting, not genteel fine dining, but good food & fun.
