With the addition of an elegant new spa, including a beautiful solarium with an indoor hot-tub (more like a small, tranquil pool), and a large new outdoor swimming pool, the Blantyre is more appealing than ever. We were initially disappointed to get only one night in the main house (the Toile room, with the alcove for the bed, is our favorite). But two nights in the carriage house were equally enjoyable, thanks to the new addition, which enabled us to pad down the hall in our robes, and lounge both indoors and out. And despite joining the fitness/spa craze, the Blantyre still keeps dove bars available in the fitness area for guests. The only downside is that it is hard to leave the property to enjoy all that the Berkshires has to offer.

Traveling up the road to Blantyre gave us a taste of what was to come. Myriad trees lined the road as a late afternoon sun bled through them -- a beautiful sight.
From the sincerely friendly and warm welcome (as opposed to those phony trained personnel ones) to the lovely accommodations in pristine settings, this place was a winner.
Each room reflects its own personality.
We were particularly impressed with the politeness and kindness of the front desk and the way they handled a particular problem we had.
The problem?
We are terribly sensitive to room sprays or, in this case, an orange furniture oil, and we actually could not remain in the room of our choice because the odor was abrasive. They promptly solved the problem by promptly preparing another room for us.
At check-out time they sent us on our way with a small gift bag of bottled water and cups.
Now THAT is class!

We spent our anniversary weekend at Blantyre. It was worth the 20 year wait! The staff was so warm and caring...the Ice House Suite where we stayed was like an exquisite home away from home with every imaginable luxury. We especially liked our romantic, candlelit dinners.

We would highly recommend the Blantyre for a romantic weekend. We stayed at Blantyre the last weekend of the 2003 season (late Oct/early Nov). The main house is tastefully decorated in period style and the common areas provide lots of comfortable places to relax. The grounds are very well-manicured and location feels very secluded even though you are minutes from downtown Lenox. The Windyside room in the carriage house was large with a private balcony but the furniture and decor looked a little tired and the bathroom was very cramped with cheap fixtures. Walking up a narrow circular staircase to the bed was not ideal since the bathroom was on the main level. I would recommend the rooms in the main house if you want more elegant furnishings but the carriage house rooms feel more private and in general are larger. The staff were friendly and helpful and we would give all of them four stars. When we called for a wine-opener, it seemed to arrive before we put the phone down. The food during breakfast and dinner were amazing and the wine list provided lots of great (& expensive) options. I would avoid the Potting Shed aka "small" exercise room unless you absolutely need to workout. There is a treadmill, stationary bike, stairmaster and some free weights but the temperature in the shed is comparable to outside and the space is tiny. Definitely skip the jacuzzi. The water never warmed above room temperature in the jacuzzi and the corner location provides a very uninspiring view of the gym equipment and mirrored wall. During warmer months the outdoor pool and tennis courts are better on campus acitivities.

My husband and I recently stayed at Blantyre to celebrate our anniversary and had the most wonderful time. The staff was friendly and helpful and we felt welcomed from the moment we arrived. Their attention to detail is noticeable everywhere and sets them apart from other places we have stayed at in the past. The dinner was just perfect and a highlight of our visit - all around a true 5 Star experience. We could not have picked a better place for our romantic getaway and can't wait to return.

Blantyre is rated the #2 best small Inn in America, and I don't see why it isn't #1, probably was a close race. Of all the places I have stayed in around the world, this has to be among the top 5, and certainly the best one in the USA. We have stayed two years in the Carriage house, where the price is reasonable for what you get (it builds memories, so we have booked the same room for next year, the first time we have ever gone back to a place three years in a row).

The pool house even has free Dove bars in the freezer, help yourself !
Excercise room, pool, but there is something here that can't be put in print -- it's 100 acres of beauty (they mow the grass 3 times a week), every pebble is in place, and the staff makes you feel so good. There's great after dinner treats in the main house and you can order virtually any drink and it will be served to you wherever you sit in the multi-room main floor. I doubt the most wealthy of British Royalty really had anything better than this.

Food is wonderful, breakfast fruit bowl is free, I believe, and the best I have ever had. Cheeze omlet is the best such omlet I have ever had as well (they charge for that). The bread basket is all home baked, and the scones have to be the best in the country. Freshly squeeze orange juice, wow.

We ate outside two mornings this trip, and the feeling is so wonderful, and the other guests so friendly. Makes you want to cancel whatever you had planned for the day and just sit there and admire the view.

On Sunday last year they had a horse and carriage ride for us from the carriage house to the main house for breakfast, it was photogenic and a nice touch.

I doubt you can get a room, however, since the regulars book it almost 6 months in advance every year. But try, if you can get in, and can afford this level of ambiance, you probably won't be disappointed at the memories you take home of the "perfect" weekend.
