“Reasonably Priced Gourmet Dinning”
Reviewed 22 April 2013

This very tiny restaurant goes out of its way to make eating a lovely refined experience. With pricing starting around $15 you can not go wrong with any of the choices on the menu. Be prepared to other wait or find the right time to go, as there are only about 15 tables or so. I had the fruit de mar (please forgive the spelling) and had just about double the size portion you would normally expect. Presentation and taste were perfection. I ate the leftovers before the night was over because the taste was so good. Go out of your way to eat here, I think you will be quite happy and pay one third the price of the same meal in Boston!

“I always look forward to going here”
Reviewed 29 January 2013 via mobile

this little restaurant is a real gem. my meals are always very good. I would certainly recommend having the specials, because they are always very fresh. they never rush you and are more than happy to recommend entres and wines. The neighbor leaves a little to be desired, but we have had any issues and the dining area inside has a warm inviting feel.

“Hidden Treasure”
Reviewed 6 December 2012

If you're an out-of-town traveler, you will probably need a member of the local cognescenti to find this hidden gem, but it is will worth the treasure hunt. The chef-owner, who is from Calabria, obviously takes pride in his Italian heritage and his kitchen. Our first course, large enough to be shared by two, included not only fresh wonderful melt-in-the-mouth mozzarella and fresh (--in December) ripe tomatoes, but also a very generous display of that marvelous, thinly sliced (almost transparent) Italian ham--not Parma, but equally impressive to the palate. Everything from the first taste to the last--the tiramasu is made on the premises!!--was excellent. The Italian-accented servers were professional, attentive, solicitous. Ristorante Serena is cozy, but the white linen-topped tables leave sufficient room among them to have a quiet personal conversation without being elbow-to-elbow with neighbors. The front windows offer a enticing view inside from the street, but wait a minute--where is the front door? There is none! That's when your guest guides you around the corner to the side street and in the door there to the Panda Express. Huh? Surprise! A lateral hallway leads past the Panda to the entrance for Serena at its end, and you have found this treasure. Malden is a working-class suburb a short distance north of Boston--nothing tony like Cambridge or storied like the North End--but I would challenge you to find a meal so authentic, so savory in some of those places where you would pay two or three times the price, or even more. The tab is completely reasonable, fully fair, a bargain for what you have just enjoyed. Try this place, you should love it.

“Gourmet Italian at Reasonable Prices!”
Reviewed 27 March 2012

Serena's is the best, bar none, gourmet Italian Ristoante in this area!! Everything is cooked to order and the tastes and flavors just explode in your mouth. The place is romantic and meticulous... And, the wait staff is outstanding. If you do not try Serena's, you are depriving yourself of an absolutely exquisite dining experience. Recommend reservations for Fri. & Sat. night.

“Best Italian in the Boston Area for Seafood”
Reviewed 2 December 2011

I have come here several times in the past years. Living in Boston, many times I'm just too lazy to drive to Malden but this place is definitely worth the drive.

It is like a hidden jem, from the outside the restaurant doesn't catch your eye, but inside it is very cozy and family style, I LIKE IT!

The owner Giovanni, is from Calabria and his cuisine is simply amazing and almost unbelievable. When he makes the bone in swordfish steak, the calamari steak or the "lobster extravaganza" he is simply superb at it.

Also the meats are very good, had once a rib eye and a filet mignon, both very good! But I love fish to much to not get it every time!

Definitely a MUST GO if visiting the area!
