“Very Romantic Hotel”
Reviewed 17 March 2013

Stayed here for a couple of nights before flying out of Boston. We found it through word of mouth when we drove into town. The bartender and waitress where we stopped for lunch said it was the best place around. They were so right. We checked in with a very freind ly lady that gave us a tour of the inn and showed us a couple of rooms with fireplaces. We chose on on the top floor that had exposed beams in the high ceiling. Great full breakfast buffet each day was an unexpected surprise and we loved hanging in the cool wine bar.
We walked to all the sites in this historic town and loved the feel that we had stepped back in time.
Staff, rooms, breakfast and town were all 5 stars.

Room Tip: Try room 35 for fireplace, king bed

Beautifully maintained, excellent location within Marblehead. Within walking distance to some very good local restaurants. Room was very comfortable. Dining room for breakfast was beautiful and the food was excellent...make sure you get to try their French Toast.

My boyfriend and I are a young couple and usually spend our nights away in nice hotels, but for our 5th year anniversary, we wanted to do something different. We’ve never been to Marblehead together and when we found good reviews of Harbor Light Inn, we decided to give it a try. We were so glad we did! The building was so charming and was in beautiful shape for it’s age.

We got the friendliest greeting when we arrived. We were shown up to our room (Room 26), which was perfect! There was even a rose on the bed because they remembered the special occasion of our stay.

The room was clean and cozy extremely unique. It was such a difference from the rooms we normally stay in. There was even a complimentary cocktail hour for Valentine’s Day so we enjoyed some champagne by the fire before we left for dinner.

All in all, it was a romantic and special experience. I definitely plan on visiting again someday and recommend this Inn to anyone who is looking for a romantic weekend getaway.

We have stayed at Harbor Light Inn several times. It is always a warm, welcoming place. It feels like home. The staff is friendly and helpful. Our recent trip was for 11 nights - we were in town for a family visit. Everything was great, as usual. I highly recommend Room 4 - it is a large room with a king bed and is at the back of the house and very quiet and relaxing.

We won a night at the Harbor Light Inn at a charity auction last April and didn't get to use it until February (not available in high season). The winter turned out to be a great time to visit Marblehead. The Inn was cozy and inviting with fires in all the fireplaces, including our room. We walked around in the cold visiting many of the nearby interesting shops and exploring until closing time. Upon returning to the Inn we ditched our coats and made our way to the intimate bar where Mary made us a couple of perfect cocktails.

Local knowledge: The bar is open to the public, so you can stop by even if you're not staying there.

We stayed in room 22. The room was large with a very comfortable queen size canopy bed. Furnished with period pieces the only modern element was the large flat screen TV on the wall over the dresser. The bathroom was also big and had a 2 person jacuzzi, walk in shower & double sink. The heat worked too well and was very warm. We weren't aware that the bathroom had a separate electric heater until the next day. It was very cold in the bathroom. The windows were drafty and I ended up pulling down the open storm window, which helped a lot.

Overall, the Inn was very good and we want to return for another visit.

Room Tip: Get one with a fireplace.

I am so pleased to hear you Love the Harbor Light Inn! We always strive to be the best!
Winter is such a nice time to relax around the fires and enjoy all that we have to offer in our historic home.
I appreciate the heads up on the electric heat in the bathroom. I apologize that you did not see the heater on the wall. Since each of our rooms are distinctly different I now have made this part of our room briefing for future guests in room 22. Just so we can make your next visit perfect I want you to know that we do have overnight staff on duty and please feel free to call them with any issues. Your comfort is our most important priority.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely letter.

My husband and I traveled with another couple to Marblehead from the South Shore for a February winter's night get-away. How lucky we were that we had chosen The Harbor Light Inn as our 'home' for the night. The Inn is lovely, furnished with beautiful antiques, and on this cold weekend, they had fires burning in both parlor fireplaces to welcome us. So cozy to read there by the fires! Our rooms both had fireplaces, which we enjoyed after dinner on a chilly night. The rooms were furnished beautifully, and were also spotless. A homemade breakfast of quiches, muffins, fruit, juices, bagels and toast was delicious and we four enjoyed it in a sun filled room, looking over the pool and pretty backyard. There was also a fire burning in the diningroom fireplace that morning. Mary, our hostess, was so friendly and helpful, and gave us excellent suggestions for restaurants, walks around town, and also outlined a perfect day trip for us driving along the seacoast up to Rockport. We all look forward to a return trip to The Harbor Light Inn.

This is a wonderful elegant place to stay, and the staff was very friendly, courteous and accomodating to special needs. The breakfast was excellent, with plenty of variety. The location is in a historic district, and there are many places within walking distance. There is also a charming wine bar with ambience. The fireplaces were cheerful and much appreciated in January! The inn also has sufficient Internet access, whether or not one has one's own laptop or devices. The staff also was helpful with information and arranged transportation to the train station. Our room was small because we did not want a fireplace, and we were given a room on the floor of our choice. The only problem here might be wheelchair access because the inn is an 18th century building, and Marblehead is more or less built on hills! However, there is a back entrance with fairly easy access if one cannot use the front steps.
