“Fine place to stay of your on your way someplace else”
Reviewed 18 May 2010

The hotel has recently been redone, it's clean, everyone working there was nice.
We picked it because of the central location. About 45 min. to Logan Air Port, an hour to Newport RI and 1-1/2 hours to Plymouth MA.

In town for Easter at our daughters. We could have stayed with them on a blow up bed, but chose the Fairfield for a real bed and privacy. Thank God!!! Comfortable King bed and the pillows were good too. Room was nice and clean. TV was ok, hard to figure out the channels. lg dorm fridge and microwave. Good shower. The faucets in the sink were reversed hot/cold-kind of weird. 4th floor quiet, even though just off 495 and 44. Breakfast was excellent the next morning and the girl working the dining room was very courteous. We would probably stay here again if we had to spend the night.

In general this property is nice, clean, and a good rate. But there really should review their hiring policies. I was running late and called the hotel to make sure my reservation was ok. I spoke with a very nice woman named Lauren. She said no problem and since I had a credit card on the reservation it would be held. Three hours later I arrived and Lauren was off duty. Instead I had Bill check me in. While I was standing waiting to be checked in, Bill was talking to another guest complaining about some of the other employees. Then I checked in. I was given a room with two doubles and asked why since my reservation was for a King (i am 6'3" and weigh 275). Bill said that my reservation was for two double beds. I said that I had spoken to Lauren and she read my reservation back to me and it was for one King. He then went off on Lauren telling me she is young and inexperienced and usually don't know what she is talking about.

Why would Marriott put a person like this at the front desk? Totally unprofessional!

I think of all the chains that I have experience at multiple locations, the Fairfield Inn is one of few that leaves me very pleased. Consistancy seems to be the name of their game, and being such a good experience, I don't find anything wrong with that.

Booked this hotel for a Friday night as a way to hopefully avoid some Cape Cod traffic on Saturday morning (worked out great). We actually booked the hotel the day before, and got the non-refundable $89/night rate. This is the best rate offered, as even the AAA rate was more than $15 above that. We were worried about arriving later than what we said on the reservation, but we called and were told the room is guaranteed for the night.

The hotel is located not 1 mile off the exit from Rt. 495, so its very convenient. Its in a quiet cove behind an RV dealership, so no traffic noises to bother us either. However, Middleboro is a bit removed from most of the area attractions (Plymouth is 10 miles away, and the Tweeter Center is a good 5-10 minute highway drive from the property).
Parking is free, but most of the spots are behind the hotel.
It was deja vu walking into the hotel, because the lobby looked exactly like the other two F.I.'s I have stayed in. Its contemporary and open, but not overly large (very clean too). Check in was a breeze, as the staff was courteous and welcoming. Gladly accomodated a high-floor preference. They even warned us of an air show on Cape Cod once they learned of our intention, which was very thoughtful.

The room was typical, but pleasing. Comfortable king bed with an old-model television with the typical array of channels. Coffee maker, iron/board, and hairdryer are all included in the room.
The sink/vanity were located outside of the bathroom, which is fine with us, but might be on some people's no-no list. The actual bathroom itself was a little cramped...a shower and toilet in a 9x5 room, but we didn't find it to be an issue, since the sink was outside.
The room and bathroom were very clean though, which was great!
Check out took a simple call to the desk (not very quick, as I was immediately put on hold for 2 minutes, longer than it would have taken to just say, "Room XXX, checking out."), and the bill was slid under the door by the time we woke up in the morning.

Two benefits that make this hotel stand-out: Free wireless internet and free 'continental' breakfast buffet every morning (extended hours on weekends). Most hotels charge for these additions to a room package, but the Fairfield offers them free of charge. The wireless is a strong, fast signal, and the buffet includes cereal, fruit, pastries, bagels, juice, milk, waffles, and coffee. So, in dollar value compared to most hotels, its like paying $65/night for the hotel (figuring $10/night for wireless and $15 for a breakfast buffet at other hotels).

In my opinion, you really can't go wrong with a Fairfield Inn, especially this one!

  • Liked — Free wireless, free buffet, convenience in getting to Cape Cod/Plymouth/Music Venue
  • Disliked — Public computer is in open lobby (no privacy)

Typical Fairfield Inn. Rooms are comfortable but not exciting. The outdoor pool looked nice enough but the weather was rainy and chilly so we did not use it. Continental breakfast was fine but lacking in variety -- would probably get boring if one stayed for more than a couple of days. Overall comfort and cleanliness were adequate. Not really much to say.

One big caveat is the location. It worked well for us because it was on the way home for us from Cape Cod. We went from the Cape right to Plymouth and then stayed the night here before heading home. Although it is labeled as "Plymouth Middleboro" it is a good long distance from Plymouth over mostly two lane country roads. There is very little in the area of the hotel and it would not make a good base for touring the Plymouth area. But for an overnight stopover it is fine.

My son (11) & I recently stayed there 4 nights (Sun-Wed). It's not a busy time for them (50% occupancy), so we were able to request a room with a small refrigerator & microwave. When you're traveling with a child, this is a nice feature.
There also was a laundry room (washer/dryer - $1.25 each) & the desk provided laundry detergent.
On the weeknights, they bake chocolate chip cookies & leave them at the desk around 5:30pm, except on Wed. when they cook Boston clam chowder! They serve a decent continental breakfast in their breakfast nook, which is also open during the rest of the day for your own use.
They are conveniently located right off of the local highway 495. There's not alot around them but it's close enough to other highways to get wherever you need to go. The desk staff are pretty uninformed about the immediate area & some not-so-immediate locations. We did manage to locate a local breakfast spot right down the road (The Sunshine Cafe).
There is a gas station/Dunkin Donuts right next to our hotel for immediate needs. There's a Super Walmart down the road about a mile.
There is also a computer/printer in the lobby for public use. They don't seem to have a time limit, so it was necessary for me to ask the desk staff to kick a computer hog off after an hour!
The best part is, for our purposes, it was a good central location for where we needed to go; less than an hour from Providence, less than an hour from the Cape (the beginning of the Cape) & close to Plymouth attractions.
