We took our Daughter hear on Columbus day and they were running special programs that day. It was a great time and we all enjoyed seeing the animals and all the extra things that were going on that day. It is a great trip for a family.

First things first, that is NOT the museum pictured with the white dormers and 2 flags! That building is the State Police barracks that is on a different street about 2.5 miles away. The museum is at the foot of the Blue Hills Ski hill, and looks nothing like the building pictured.
We live around the corner from the Trailside Museum, and have spent many days letting our young children run around there, inside and out. They love it! From an adult perspective, it's a bit dingy and small, BUT there's stuff the kids can touch and climb on and through, and it's really a nice, safe space for them. The story times with animals are very sweet, and the staff is kind and flexible. They have a number of seasonal events that are TONS of fun, too. Fall cider days is a favorite of ours. Remember quarters to feed the ducks! Nominal admission of a couple/few bucks, FREE for Audubon members.

Our kids are older now, but we would always make a point to stop in here and check out the animals whenever we came to hike.

This museum is fantastic, especially for kids. Plenty of exhibits to experience and the staff is so friendly and helpful. Afterwards you can go for an easy hike up the mountain.

Nice little museum that showcases the natural history and current wildlife in Blue Hills. It is small, but sweet. Also a good spot to park if you plan to climb to the top of the Blue Hill, which is an easy hike, even with a 4 year old.
