Was just passing through Newburyport, and stumbled on this restaurant. Luck of the Irish I guess.

We did find it popular, and difficult to get in, but the wait was worth it.

Noisy, yes. busy, yes. packed, also yes. Sometimes these are the traits of a great diner though. Anyway, we were pleased that the restaurant had a gluten free menu. We opted for the Lobster special - it was a limited time special they had then - and, of course they were gluten free.

The service was really good considering the business they were doing - waiters almost running serving patrons. Beer selection was awesome as previously noted.

Our lobsters were fantastic when we got them. The most tender we have had pretty much ever. That includes Bar Harbor, PEI and New Brunswick.

This restaurant will be on our go to list should we ever be in the neighborhood in the future.

This is my hands down favorite eatery in town. I usually get the Grog Ceaser with grilled scallops. Its hard to find grilled scallops on any menu and they are delicious here.

Call before 5 and get reservations as it's always busy here.

On a trip back from Boston we were looking for a place to stop on Newburyport. After trying a few other spots with better reviews on trip advisor we ended up at Grogs and we decided to go in. The hostess was great and our party if 8 was seated quickly. The waitress was attentive and gave great advice. We had several different things - burger, Reuben, turkey club, Cuban, steak tips, chicken Caesar wrap and all were great!

The Grog has a great beer section, but the food is not great. With that said it is a great late night stop or a place to meet friends for drinks.

We went in for cocktails one evening...Aug 17th about 10pm
but kind of felt a bit like a townies bar..

The female bartender was so rude to my cousin (didn't acknowledge her when she walked in...we ended up walking out)
Kind of suprised since I have gone there on and off for years...

I will chalk it up to one bad experience since I have always loved it here. Or perhaps that bartender was having a bad day too..happens to us all
