It's a cute little diner- very small, but the food is great and the service is fast. Perfect neighborhood spot.

A neighborhood diner with Greek flair. An old fashion counter where the coffee is hot and the muffins are homemade. The pies are baked on site. A great place for an early breakfast with no frills. Kind of Norman Rockwell'ish. A nice find in Auburndale section of Newton, MA.

“Last of a dying breed. I will always eat here!!!”

The Knotty Pine is the last of the real diners of this great country. Loui's in Lower falls was on of the greats as well. The working mans dining room. America has drifted so far away from reality that we havent even noticed where our kitchen went and where we sit down with one another and eat. Where people know you and you know them and it doesnt cost 40 bucks to eat by yourself but with friends! I will always eat here!!

“Good neighborhood greasy spoon”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 March 2011

Having recently moved to the neighborhood, I'm glad we have a place like the Knotty Pine. It's a place where pretension is non-existent, and you can just feel comfortable and order some comfort food. You'll find all the breakfast favorites you'd expect, for very reasonable prices. The quality is not gourmet, but it is better than you would find in other similar establishments.

“A Great Breakfast Place, and it doesn't even have "diner" in the name.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2010

I was staying at the Indigo across 95 in Newton and asked them for a good breakfast place. They didn't even need to think before they said "go to the Knotty Pine". It's a nondescript entrance so you need to make sure you find the restaurant name so you know where to go. Luckily it's at the end of the block. It was the perfect place on a 12 degree morning - warm, friendly and smelling like breakfast and fresh coffee.

There are about 9-10 booths or tables along a narrow floor, and about 10-12 seats at the counter. I sat at the counter and had a "good morning, coffee?" and copy of the Boston Herald within 30 seconds. The menu has all the requisite breakfast dished you's want, eggs, homefries, hotcakes, oatmeal, French Toast, etc. I had an onion/pepper omelet cooked the way I like it - no runny eggs, potatoes and toast. The food was excellent and when they learned I was from Pittsburgh and had grown up in NY, I was given the appropriate razzing and poured more coffee.

I enjoyed it so much, and didn't need to eat again until that night, that I regretted they aren't open Sundays. If "Cheers" had been in a diner instead of a bar, it would have been here.
