We have stayed at The Porches 5 times and are returning again next month. For anyone wanting to visit Mass MoCA it is the perfect spot directly across the street. The staff is helpful, the rooms clean and the bathrooms VERY large!!! The breakfast is lovely but sometimes tends to be crowded at certain times and the outdoor pool is great. We have been in it during blizzards and heat waves.

Room Tip: The suites are great for families.

Great idea to rehab a row of mill workers' houses right across from the grand old mill now housing Mass MOCA. The results are pretty impressive. Pluses: location (if you're going to the museum); beautiful large bathrooms; excellent beds, sheets, towels, robes; fine cold breakfast, in the room or in the central house; pool and fitness center; friendly, courteous staff. Minuses: the shabby thrift-store furniture, apparently meant to be, according to a brochure, "ironic," still comes across as shabby thrift-store, and is consistent with cheap window shades and pieces of fabric on strings in place of curtains; in the two-bedroom suite we shared with friends, there were no working lights in one bedroom when we arrived and none when we left, despite our reporting the problem; the breakfast room and common space are lovely, but nowhere near large enough to accommodate a full house in cold weather.

Many good things to say about the Porches, friendly, cosy, spacious rooms etc but one or two causes for concern. Very steep staircases to lug your suitcases up and down, double bed pressed against the wall on two sides so had to climb over each other to get to loo, A fridge full of drink to purchase and a list of other items (duvet etc) for sale, I would have prefered tea/coffee making facilities and a safe in the room.

Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is pretty expensive for this area. We stayed in the two bedroom/two bath suite, and it was roomy spacious and clean. Don't let the outside fool you. THe hotel looks extremely rustic, but it has nice amenities inside. Love the roaring fireplace and sofas to relax and have drinks in. Also breakfast next day is also good. Basic continental style breakfast but served nicely in a morning room. Would definitely stay here again.

Charming, relaxing, wonderful. Stayed one night but so relaxing felt like a week. It was as if I had gone away to a very special place in a time past. Sitting by the fire at night and in the morning I was more relaxed then I had been in years. Delicious cold breakfast. Wonderful staff.
What we didn't know. There is a hot tub and pool outside heated for year round use. So bring bathing suit. If you need an non-allergenic room you need to call ahead and book it.
The bed is so comfy but it is feather and down as is the quilt and pillows.
Can't wait to go back.
Do not miss MassMOCA.

We actually had a lovely stay here. The only issue is with the house cat. Out of our group of four three of us were allergic to cats. In the evening we gathered to chat. The cat while friendly could not be shosshed away. We eventually needed to cut our evening short as our eyes started to water and swell. In the morning we needed to do the same.

Thank you for your recent stay and feedback.
I am very sorry that we were unaware that your group was allergic to cats. Sabine stays in her own spot away from lobby, if we are notified by any guest. We will be happy to assist you with it on your next visit.

Kind Regards,

Mel@Porches

Here for a Veterans' Day weekend, so maybe it's too late in the season for their best effort. I should preface that it's at least 50% lower than the price of a resort in the area, but still a little disappointing. You wouldn't know it from the pictures, but it faces a loud well used road. The walls to the halls are thin, but we haven't heard much from adjoining rooms. The included breakfast is warm only if you toast your bread. Pet friendly is promoted, but dogs are not allowed in common areas, supposedly for allergy reasons; so why is the calico cat shedding anywhere it wants? Part of my negativity is doubtless influence by the town's limitations this time of year, but an "attitude" of unhelpfulness is commonplace. Maybe they are cheerier at the beginning of the season.

Room Tip: NE back corner, facing the hill is away from the road and the pool/spa with screaming kids

Dear Guest,

We appreciate for your feedback.

North Adams is a little old mill city with lots of history and art. Porches is right across from Mass MoCA which is one of the finest Contemporary Art Museum. Performing arts is also very popular at MoCA and they had two plays during the Veterans Day weekend; Friday and Saturday night. North Adams is 5 miles away from Williamstown and it is another beautiful New England town. Williams College Museum of Art and Clark Art Institute are fantastic museums to visit. We are 1-one mile away from Mt. Greylock and it is one of the best hiking spots in Northern Berkshires and the highest point of Massachusetts. There are several hiking and biking options available year around in the area.

The front end of the building has one or two bedroom suites which has separated living room and the living room is looking over to the River street. There is a door between living room and the bedroom, if you are a light sleeper, we would suggest you to close the door to avoid traffic noise.

Our rate is very competitive all year around, most of our competitors offer much higher rate just for the room only and our rate is Continental Breakfast inclusive. Unfortunately, we do not offer hot breakfast.

We have one designated pet friendly building for the families who travel with their lovely furry friends.

We really hope to see you again at The Porches Inn.

Kind Regards,

Mel
