“Family-oriented and awesome location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2012

Two years ago, we stayed at Dune’s Edge Campground, nearer to Provincetown, but this time we were looking toward a campground nearer to the beach. We couldn’t have found a better spot! North of Highland Campground is not only less expensive than Dune’s Edge (while still at only a few minutes from Provincetown by car or bus), there’s a path to Head of the Meadow beach, which is thus at only a few minutes by foot from most campsites. Having the opportunity to walk to the beach in the morning is simply awesome. Being family-oriented, this campground is very much quiet at night, though the privacy provided by the pines is not so great and the sites are quite near from one another. Nonetheless, we didn’t have any issue with any neighbour during our stay there.
The camp store is rather small and only have a few products (mostly camping supplies), but is very convenient for ice. Restrooms located throughout the campground are sufficient and kept very clean. As for the showers, at 7 minutes of hot and abundant water in very clean stalls, for a single quarter, it is exceptional.
In short, we clearly appreciated our experience there, recommend it without any doubt and would undoubtedly return in the future.

Stayed for 2 nights in June 2012 and was very impressed how quiet and clean the campground was. The bathrooms are in good condition and the shower area is very clean. The walk to the beach is the biggest plus about this campground. Staff was pleasant and helpful with tips on area attractions. Not having a fire was not great, but common in most Cape campgrounds. A lot of rules, but understandable when you recognize how badly behaved some people are. Plan to return on a beach weekend in late August, as in high season you have to reserve for a whole week.

I camped here with a bunch of my friends recently. It was for just one night. Because they don't take reservations for just single nights I had to call them a few times close to our travel dates to make sure they have enough camp sites for our group. They were very courteous and helpful each time I called.

Out of the few camp sites I've been to they have the most clean and nice looking rest rooms. There are small and large camp sites. And the management at the time of check-in took the time to explain what options we have for camp sites and they even told us to drive around and pick any site we wanted to (probably because we walked in with no prior reservations).

They also took the time to explain the procedure to get a permit for a beach fire from the beach office. The staff at the main office were very helpful and asked us to reach out to them if we wanted anything. But we didn't have to contact them again as everything went smoothly.

They have centrally located hot water showers and multiple 24 hours restrooms located in different areas of the camp site. They don't have designated areas to wash the dishes. But you can bring in water from the out door tap in each rest room and wash your dishes at the camp site.

Location was great as it was close to Province town and the beach.

We made sure we followed the rules and ended up having a great camping trip.

My husband and I camped here over this past 4th of July holiday. Although most of the campground was close quarters compared to where we are used to camping in Maine, we did have the best site—83 1/2. It was tucked away from the rest of the campers with a great view of an open forest area. It is important to note that there are no campfires allowed in the campground, but it keeps the campground quiet at night.

The Head of the Meadow beach is just a 1/2 mile walk through the woods from the campground. We saw the best sunset at Corn Hill beach on the Bay side. And Provincetown is only a few short miles away on Route 6. The Province Lands bike trail through Race Point and Provincetown is wonderful!

I am a lifelong Cape Cod lover and camper and do not recommend this campground. We are not the first to be shocked, read other reviews!

Pre-season campout with my Cousins (45-51 year olds) on June 8, 2012. We were treated like criminals, asked to leave for no concrete reason. The owner was rude and admitted “it’s my campground I can do what I want!” We moved to another campground and saved the weekend!

Detail:

We were told no open fires at check in. We stated we had a small Weber Grill, could we throw a log or two on after we cook dinner. We were told as long as you rake the pine needles away from the Grill area.

At 9-10pm Friday, an unknown man wearing dark clothing approached us in the dark, spoke down to us and did not state his name or where he was from. He stated “what are you burning? It’s illegal to do that! Get water and put that out”. My family and I went into protective mode because the man was a stranger at this point and was rude.

The next morning, another man named Dale announced himself as an employee and was very professional. We talked for 15 enjoyable minutes. Thirty minutes later Dale came back and stated “Sorry guys but I have been told to ask you to leave”. My cousins and I were all in a state of shock.

In summary, we helped the stranger get water to put out the 3 logs that night. We cleaned the campsite. I told the owner perhaps there was a miscommunication at check in between his employee and us regarding fires. The owner said “you should have stated you were sorry” to the stranger for the fire. I stated it was dark, he was a threat, why would we say sorry? Even Dale stated to us that the “late night” stranger was the source of a few other complaints.

This place is awesome! I never felt so good at a place like I have here. My husband and I wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle and this place was perrrrrrrrrrfect for it.
The showers were superb. Clean, smelling great, and it was like that every day. The bathrooms were very clean also, just a few bugs to bug you, but other than that it was very clean.
The staff sure nows how to make a person feel great and welcomed. They always are so friendly and nice, smiling, and willing to help when your in need of something.
Even though campfires are not permitted at the sites, you can always enjoy a nice toasty fire at the Rec Room or they provide plenty of wood for campfires at the beach which is just a convenient 5 minute walk down a well kept path.
We're definately coming back next year. Woohooo!!!

This campground was very nice and provided all the amenities that one would want while camping. We stayed in Area 2 not on the main loop and found the experience to be great. By 9:30 or so all you can hear is crickets. The campground it about 5-7 minute walk from Head of the Meadow Beach which is very pretty and secluded. The water is a bit cold for swimming, but we saw many kids who didn't seem to mind. Lots of seals while we were there and not too much seaweed which is a plus. Also you can get a permit to have a fire on the beach!!! For Free!!! This was great and I recommend doing this-the stars at the beach are amazing-and you can see the Milky Way clearly. The campground also has a shower area-multiple bathrooms-a camp store (where you can get coffee!) and a playground for kids. Everyone seemed very nice and helpful- we really have nothing bad to say about this place-we plan on returning in years to come because it was such a wonderful and relaxing stay. Thanks North of Highland
